Hello all! We are happy to announce that the subreddit now has an ACTIVE MOD TEAM! A rudimentary automod has also been set up, barring posters with less than 90 days on the platform or 25 karma. If you fall in this category but have a legitimate post, don't fret. One of us will approve it as soon as we can, and of course you can reach out via modmail. We wanted to thank the entire community for its concern, willingness to help, and most of all for coming together in a positive way to pave the way for us to step in. We wouldnāt be here without you.
Ā
First, weād like to announce some changes. We have set up post flairs, and post flairs are now required. If you are posting under the Sick Fish or Tank Problems flair, your post will automatically be flagged NSFW spoilered, so that those who frequent this subreddit are not always confronted with images that upset them. We hope to foster a much more positive environment while still preserving the ability to come together and help those who need it. We also have some user flairs, including a custom flair! These are not mandatory but can help others know a bit more about you. Bear in mind, these are self-assignable, and you may encounter people misrepresenting themselves. If you believe this to be the case, feel free to report it to us.
Ā
Second, a new ruleset has been added and will be enforced. Please be sure to review the changes before any new contributions. We also have a Wiki (https://www.reddit.com/r/fishkeeping/wiki/index) in progress, which currently has a complete cycling guide. Common questions about cycling can be answered in the FAQ (https://www.reddit.com/r/fishkeeping/wiki/index/faq/) and this too will be updated as time goes on.
Ā
And lastly, for the fun part, letās introduce the new mod team!

u/ackley14 has been keeping fish in some way or another for most of his life. Apart from the traditional hobbies like playing games and watching movies, he enjoys quilting, 3d printing, and the occasional attempt at woodwork. He works as a software systems architect at a packaging company. He has 4 tanks in the house. Though his pride and joy is the 50 gallon with a breeding pair of pearl gourami, 15 xray tetra, a trio of sydontis petricola, and a variety of bristle nose plecos.

Shroomy has been keeping fish for around a decade. Over the years she has built up her knowledge of not just fish, but also other pets, plants, and medical biology. She works as an EMT and hopes to get her paramedic someday. She currently owns a 20gal pea puffer/pygmy corydora setup, and two 5 gallon setups; one of those houses a twintail betta named Neptune and a King Koopa nerite named Bowser, while the other is currently in the process of being prepared for new inhabitants and contains a King Koopa nerite, currently unnamed.

Ā I go by āFawnā or āTreeā online but I donāt really have a preference and Iāve been helping online communities for a few years now. Iām more active on Discord so maybe you have seen me around helping out there or here on Reddit. Been interested in fish and the hobby for a long time and grown up with an aquarium like a lot of people here and got deeper into the hobby (I have to many tanks send help). I mainly have an interest in invertebrates like aquatic isopods, shrimp, and scuds but I do love oddball fish. I also help moderate r/fish.

Anaksunamanda is a betta enthusiast, shrimp evolution denier, and always down to watch The Mummy movies.
Welcome to the renewed subreddit everyone! We are thrilled to have you here.

Hi:
Kens Fish flake is what I use for my 7" cichlids. The flake used to come in large pieces, like 4" wide sections. Not any more. I'd like to some how take the small pieces and combine them to make large pieces. I contacted Ken's with no response. Any ideas?
Thank you for your time.

Hello!
He is in a medium planted 20 gallon tank, it's 2 years old, and has 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 10 nitrate. I have the CO2 on for 4 hours a day. And I supplement with liquid fertilizer and have fluval stratum substrate.
He's the only gourami. 10 ember tetras, 8 kuhli loaches and some random snails.
Ph 7.2 and I can't remember about GH or kh.
2 days ago I noticed he was hiding more. And yesterday I noticed he was angled at 45 degrees or vertical near the surface of the water, and then would dart quickly around, sometimes hitting into things it looked like. So last night I set up a 2 gallon hospital tank with small air stone on gentle, small heater for a tiny tank and a lid. After 5 minutes of chasing him and having to destroy the tank plants, we caught him and put him in it.
I also put a cloth on the tank to keep him calm.
When I looked in on him this morning he was sitting on the bottom of the tank, just chilling. Just now I put in a very tiny little itty bitty pinch of dry flakes and he eventually came out and ate them. A few times he darted around the hospital tank. He does appear to be breathing hard, with (I think?) his mouth open?
No obvious swelling in the belly. And no spots or injuries I can see. The gourami is probably a year old, at least. I think I've had him for at least a year
Any ideas? After the kids nap time I could get pics of him.

Dimensions are 82x40x40cm
Current occupants are adult bristlenose, 7 harlequin rasbora, 6 guppies, 5 striped kuhlis.
On my Wishlist.. cories (not Pygmies), diamond tetra, black widow or phantom tetra, 1 or 2 feature fish.
Obviously I canāt have them all š
Looking for opinions on best fit for this tank. New to tropicals, had to work with what came in the tank when I bought it. Shrimp arenāt an option in New Zealand! Am adding plants as and when I see healthy ones in local stores

my parameters are 0ppm nitrite, 0ppm ammonia, maybe around 30-40ppm nitrates. 75 degrees temp, low filter flow. my hardness is 3 dKH and dGH. i know nitrates are a problem but i canāt get them down for the life of me because theyāre in my tap water, too. i just introduced my fish yesterday and his color has gotten more vibrant. i introduced them to co2 today and they seem to be adjusting well. my CPDs are swimming pretty normally but im a bit concerned by this behavior? he isnāt swimming to the surface and doesnāt appear to have labored breathing. iām new to this fish so any advice would help! he ate fine this morning. heās been doing this for like 20 minutes.

So I have some native minnows and they appeared pregnant, I have found eggs occasionally, which i assumed they were eaten as they disappeared shortly after me finding them, but apparently not?? Iāve seen one when I first set the tank up but I thought he got eaten until I saw him while doing a water change today and then i saw this little guy too, heās absolutely microscopic omg my first babies š„¹
Is there anything I need to do to help them survive? The other one seems to be doing fine and I thought he was dead lol, do I just keep doing what Iām doing orr??
Edit: turns out the fry are least killifish and everything in my tank(except my tetras) are live bearers lol srry I really thought they were minnows cuz of the eggs I found, babies arenāt findable but I assume theyāre doing well thx for the advice ^_^

Okay, so, my fish have been doing some weird shit already (such as my black Molly losing all color and turning gray? And my female Molly turning into a torpedo and barrel rolling before laying on the bottom of the tank. Iām lowk scared shitless rn because I took out the filter that was looking pretty gnarly and popped in a new one. Not two seconds later, these neon green things?? Showed up in the water and stayed for about two minutes. My water seems ok to me other than a high ph which Iāll have to fix in the morning. Itās a planted 20 gallon with not too many fish in it thatās been going for about three/four months. Iām a minor and not the best at fish keeping so any kind help would be appreciated

This is my 15 gallon and first tank. I house a few pretty guppies, some corys, etc.
I cannot get the plants to grow! Lights are on an 8 hour cycle. I have swords, jungle val, and that pitiful monte carlo in the front. I have fluval stratum under the sand, I use root tabs (monthly), and fertilizer. (weekly)
