Witch series, read ~2014-15, English. Heroine is a 30-something “loser” who has a bad breakup, then finds out she has magical powers that run in her family. Her car is named “Purple People Eater.” She moves to (I think) London, opens a bakery/shop for witches, and gets caught in a love triangle (one guy is named Sebastian). Main conflict: she’s a magical heir/important family member and others want to usurp her or her family. Probably part of a series.

UNSOLVED Fantasy book about crow goddess, two boys and the last island with forest

So, something around 2010s (maybe something closer to 2015) my friend gave me her book to read. It was about two young boys and it was written from both heir povs. They lived on the last island that still had any teees on it as wood was in this world the most expensive thing. One boy was child of some higher up on this island, the other was really poor. The poor boy was I think child of the crow goddess? or just connected with her. I also think he was able to manipulate trees to grow how he wanted them. It was probably not a stand alone book, but can't be sure. I read this in Polish.

UNSOLVED I need help finding a Scifi Book/Webstory

Its certainly many years old but when i last read it online in some Forum where you can upload parts of your Books the Story wasnt finished. The author wanted to officially release the book when it would be finished.

The Story is about a rather advanced race which fights with swords and uses something like Zen in combat. Some of these Warriors get stranded on a not so advanced planet and get dragged into a war against the King of this planet.

Sorry for my bad english…

Maybe someone has an idea?

UNSOLVED Help me find an old dinosaur book!

Hey all!

I'm trying to find a paperback dinosaur book I owned as a kid, probably sometime between 2010 and 2014. I attended elementary school in Marietta, Georgia, and I believe I may have gotten it from a Scholastic Book Fair, although I'm not 100% sure.

Here's everything I remember:

It was a small book, roughly the size of a little notebook or journal, around 5 by 7 inches. It was a normal paperback book, and not spiral-bound. One of the most distinctive things I remember is that the corners of the book were ROUNDED instead of pointed.

I remember the cover being predominantly green, with jungle as the background. There was a large, realistic-looking brown T. rex head roaring on the front. The head took up most of the cover. The T. rex looked like older CGI or possibly a realistic rubber dinosaur model. I remember the pages being designed almost like a field journal, with handwritten-looking notes, facts, and pictures that looked taped or pasted onto the pages.

The book could have been published before 2010, since I know Scholastic fairs sometimes sold older books. I've searched through dozens of dinosaur books and haven't found it. It is NOT Jurassic Survival Guide by Heather Dakota, although I did own that book around the same time.

I'm particularly hoping someone recognizes the combination of the rounded corners, green cover, and distinctive T. rex head.

Does anyone remember a dinosaur book like this?

UNSOLVED Help Finding A Book

This is going to be a long while back like early 00s. But there was this one book I found at a public library and I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It was a Reference book so it couldn't be checked out. Sadly the only thing I can remember from the book was it contained important newspaper clipping, whole page articles not some cut and paste collage, from every year. Like a specific memory is when JFK was assassinated and it had the whole news article, the year above it and a picture of him. If not the right subreddit please refer me to the right one so I can find answers. Thank you for all future inquiries and suggestions.

UNSOLVED Fiction apocalypse audiobook

Not had luck other places, does anyone recognize this book? I listened to it on Spotify a handful of times and I thought I had it saved, apparently I do not.

Narrated by Will Wood, connected to Life In The World To Come but I don't recall how, it's like 4-5 chapters that are each very individual. One is a group of kids in a van, there's twins and siblings, they see a mushroom cloud and drive away from it, ending up in the desert. Another chapter is a lizard that's chasing a book and ends up discovering I guess the multiverse theory? Distinctly one chapter is a little kid playing pretend and summons an actual dragon

Those I'm certain are part of it. I believe one chapter was a liminal space Italian restaurant based loosely on an urban legend from some college kids (?).

If there is a better place to ask this please let me know! I've searched my listen history as much as I can, I've searched chats with friends bc I know I recommended it to quite a few people but I cannot for the life of me find the name anywhere

UNSOLVED Science Fiction short story about a human male living among two alien races at war

I am searching for a short story read in a science fiction anthology, unsure of the publication date. The story's protagonist was a human male living alongside an alien race called, possibly, the Solat or Solats. He got along well with the Solats. This alien group was at war with another alien race called, possibly, the Kronzi, who were depicted as evil compared to the Solat.

I am unsure of the spelling of the alien races, but this is the best guess. Two other human characters appeared in the story: one was a minor role with no dialogue or very little, but the other turned out to be the general/leader of the Kronzi. I don't know the resolution of the story, whether the conflict was resolved, or if there was any twist to the story. It feels Harlan Ellison-esque, but I haven't been able to find a story that matches.

UNSOLVED Pink and Black Young Girls Book with thick, magazine like pages

There was a book I used to love. I'm pretty sure the theme was like pink and black, and followed a girl through high school maybe. The pages were thicker somewhat like the front cover of a national geographic magazine. That's all I remember. Had to have been popular in the 2000s.

UNSOLVED Children's/YA novel about a young girl whose dead mother's diary is written in code

I have a vague memory of a library book I read sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s. I think the book itself might be from the 1950s or 60s, though I could be wrong.

The book was told in the first person, and the narrator/protagonist was a girl who never knew her mother, because Mom died either in childbirth or when her daughter was a baby. People who knew her mother said she used to be a rebellious, feisty type. One day, someone gave the girl her mother's old diary, which was written in code, so the girl spent much of the story trying to crack the code.

The diary was a beautiful book with mother-of-pearl covers. It had originally been a prayer book, catechism, or some other religious thing, but Mom had painted over every page with white paint to make it into a diary (IIRC, the fact that she'd do this to a religious book was an example of how feisty and rebellious she used to be).

There came a point where the girl got fed up with trying to break the diary code, I guess; for some reason she put the diary somewhere outside (possibly on Mom's grave?). Then, somehow, the girl had a sudden insight in cracking the code, so she ran to retrieve the diary but it was too late: it started to rain, so the painted diary pages all stuck together and was ruined, and the girl ended up sobbing over her loss (and I cried, too; I'm pretty sure the sadness of that scene is why the book has stuck with me all these years).

Does anyone know what this book is? Or even remember reading it, and can perhaps recall more details?

UNSOLVED Looking for an animal joke/fact book for children

I’m trying to track down a children's book. It was a large, thin book with very nice illustrations.

The layout is the part I remember most clearly:

- Each animal was spread out over two-pages.

- A large illustration of the animal was in the centre.

- Funny questions, jokes, or statements about the animal were arranged around the illustration and those were illustrated as well.

- There was a small section with actual fun facts about the animal.

I vaguely remember questions along the lines of “Why does the camel have a hump?” and “Why does the rooster crow?” I’m not sure whether those were the exact wording.

The title was something like "Why does the camel have a hump and other fun animal facts!"

An example of the type of jokes would be "A zebra has black and white stripes on its body because it laid down on the road when someone was painting the zebra crossings and accidentally painted the zebra." It was written in a better way 😅 and had an illustration of a zebra being painted beside it.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Thanks!
