At the beginning of Eragon, Brom describes how an experienced magic user could say one thing and mean another, and do the thing that they meant. Yet later, when Eragon phrases something slightly wrong, he creates Elva. Why?

Sooo hi, I didn't poof xD hows it goin?
Been working on a few projects recently that aren't the Inheritance weapons, but I'm back to post some more progress on Brisingr, specifically the scabbard.
All textures here are for blockout only.
The tip of the scabbard is still verrry rough
I have been rereading the requisite chapter in Brisingr more times than I care to admit, the nose cap, or whatever it's called, is described as: "a piece of blued brightsteel carved into the shape of a leaf capped the end of the scabbard."(Brisingr 679) This is my 4th crack at it, and it still don't look right (and yes, I know theres no carved detail yet)
My idea is to make it look like the tip is a leaf that is wrapped around the scabbard to form the nose guard.
Currently, i am struggling with the shape.
Will continue to post updates when I have them, appreciate y'alls feedback.

My girlfriend made this little treasure for me, and I wanted to share it here too đ«đ
In terms of material, it should be a quick-drying clay and resin.

Hi all , I recently just read the murtagh book and wanted to open up a discussion of how im feeling post bookđ specifically regarding Murtagh as a character. I donât know if itâs just me but Murtagh doesnât come off likeable. And i know his purpose from a literary perspective is to be the imperfect hero , so its a given theres going to be a lot of things to make him hard to like BUT my biggest issue with him is the way he thinks, specifically his inability to acknowledge& accept&reconcile the role he played in the grand scheme of things of why things are the way they are. His has all these unresolved feelings against eragon, dwarves ,elves , and people of alagaesia but he doesnt seem to accept the role he played in events. NOBODY told him to kill Hrothgar!! That was him on his own! Nobody forced him to take a level of pride in his position and sort of revel in the destruction he was causing in the pursuit of peace. Instead of looking for ways to make peace with all those parties he decided to turn into a little boy with a âi can do it all by myselfâ tantrum. And then to add insult to injury, he doesnât even know relevant magic.. i am really hoping for character development in the impeding installments bc this aint it. Lmk your thoughts

Before I say anything else I want to make it clear that this is not me shitting on the novel or Paolini's writing style or ability. It's just that the last few chapters of Brisingr hit like a rapid fire fever dream. I thought the first time I read it the feeling was from reading in the car late at night on a long road trip. However, I'm reading it again and it's the same feeling. BAM Eldunari are a thing, BAM we're attacking a city, BAM new shade, BAM two important characters are dead, BAM there goes the shade. Just wondering everyone's thoughts.

I was thinking about how almost all the instances were someone attempts to slow a fall with magic they essentially lift there own weight for the duration of the fall witch takes staggering energy. So I went to the wiki and put this together: Sem iek shajalvà sé neia eka taune iet shajalvà eom deloi. Witch should be: that my motion may not harm me take my motion and give it to the earth. Evin if my version wouldn't work why wouldn't there be a similar spell taught to the riders in case they fell in flight?
edit: I realize I should clarify two things
1 the idea is that instead of the forces taking effect as usual i.e. your feet stoping and the rest of you continuing down, the spell would make the stoping force of the ground would be applied to your entire body at once the stop doesn't kill you the fact you don't stop all at once dose.
2 it would be a conditional ward. Activating when you hit the ground hard enough to hurt yourself. (I couldn't find conditionals on the wiki)

I was inspired by a recent post to turn my thoughts about spells into a post and see what people think. Let me know!
We see examples of good and bad spells that are either rooted in physics or not. Thrysta vindr is a great one, draumr kopa not really. Brom says that intent matters and understanding the underlying principles of what youâre doing is very important, like an experienced spellcaster/philosopher could say adurna and make a gemstone. But wasnât the whole point of tying the ancient language to magic so that you werenât able to do this? So that you couldnât say water and accidentally make a bomb because of stray thoughts/intent?
Regardless of the answer, there are a lot of inconsistencies here then. Eragon is able to cast spells in which he doesnât understand how or why they work, like the infinite pocket of space to store the eldunari. Maybe that one is okay because itâs long enough that it seems like he has to explicitly spell out what itâs doing. But what about atra nosu waise vardo fra eld hornya? May we be warded from listeners is a result, not an action.
The only possibility is that the universe is somehow capable of understanding intent and making it a reality and will choose (ideally) the lowest energy path to do so. But that directly contradicts the idea that the spellcasters intent matters for unexplicitly described spells, because otherwise this spell would do slightly different things based on what the user wants it to do, and whoever uses it would have to understand what you should intend for it to do physically before using it, which defeats the purpose. You might as well do it wordlessly. A good spell would be something like âdirect the vibration of our words only into her earsâ or âincrease the stiffness in the air/walls/media around usâ. This requires an understanding of physics that likely only some elves, some dragons, and Angela and tenga understand.
Any thoughts?

Does anyone else find Lord Barst taunting and ragebaiting Roran with the 'Lackhammer' title funny?
Something about the way he says it so sincerely, as if he means it, but also with a hint of derisiveness is what gets me.
Even in his dying moments he keeps taunting Roran with it. Gotta appreciate the dedication.
What do you guys think?

Recently, there has been a website creating and selling replica dragon scales by the name of Scales / @scalesatelier on Instagram. Recently, they have begun making scales from the Inheritance Cycle, starting with Saphira and Thorn.
Saphiraâs is absolutely beautiful, with various of blue shades, with near-black all the way to a metallic or pearlescent sheen depending how light seems to catch the surface.
What I like about Thornâs is that it seems the creator has been influenced by Thorn being grown too fast and itâs effected his body. It looks twisted or unnatural, but still has that deep red colour that would be through the entire scale if he was allowed to grow at a normal rate.
Will be adding both to my Christmas collection this year. What do you all think of them and do you
Hope to see the rest of the dragons done?

Is it odd that I think the name of names should be Paolini? Wouldnât it be ironic if the strongest god in the world of eragon was Christopher Paolini himself and saying his name invokes power?

Every year for Christmas I give my family a "family gift" of a board game we can play together. We grew up playing the LotR Trivia Board game and I was heavily inspired by that game in the making of this. This was made in 2023 and I never got around to posting about it. It's not perfect. Looking back there are definitely things I would change, but I hope you enjoy it as much as my family has!

Iâve been sick in bed since Wednesday which means Iâm listening to the Eldest audiobook. I think about this all the time. Aryaâs fight gear is called leather. Then later when they ride the magic horses and Orik says he wonât ride while wearing a pack, an elf directs them to leather packs to go on the additional horse

I was recently made aware of the show Flash Gordon and the bore worms scene by the viral TS Madison clip. Coincidently this went viral at the same time as my Inheritance reread so I could put the two together.
Do you think this clip of Bore Worms inspired Paolini when writing the Burrow Grubs scene of Nasuadaâs torture. There so many similarities in just the name of the creature to the setting itself of a woman chained to a slab and being tortured for information. I donât think this could just be a coincidence. Do you? Paolini must have been inspired by this scene when inventing burrow grubs.

I've heard the audiobooks a couple of times. I now finally got back into reading and would like to buy some nice looking edditions of the books.
I saw the set of The Broken Binding but which versions do you guys think I should get?
My favourite book eddition currently is the deluxe eddition of Red Rising but I don't have much more for comparison.
Thank you for your opinions
