Discussion 💭🗯️ Approximately when did the U.S. move away from this kind of lighting in its cities?

Post image

I was alive and aware for the transition. But I can’t really pinpoint a year or range of when this change actually occurred. Does anyone else know? And does it depend on the state? I’m specifically looking for Wisconsin based answers if anyone maybe knows that as well. Thank you.

I don't know how old you are but when was a kid people hated the "sickly yellow" lights

That coler was used specifically for that sickly look. It was found that people didn’t like to gather under it. I learned this from an article in Jane’s Defense Weekly in the mid 1990’s.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is indeed true.

That’s not true at all, seems like some Gen Z lore.  They did have intentionally fast flickering lights and weird noise (high pitch) to keep us moving along. Unfortunately I think bright ass white LED now is sort of intended to do the same.

Not gen z bud, they wouldn’t have been alive when the article was written. Jane’s Defense Weekly is a very reputable source.

I still don’t like it. I don’t love LEDs but I do not enjoy yellow lighting. It’s harder for me to see in yellow lighting and honestly I find it ugly. It is better for wildlife though so I think it’s ideal in less populated areas.

I still dislike them. The visibility under those amber lights is very low to begin with, and most of them are so weak they barely even light the street below them. Many are only bright enough to glow like a beacon to let you know it's there, useless, not illuminating the street at all. Anyway nighttime lights should be pale, silvery, like the light of the full moon. Just turned up enough to actually help people.

I don't think LEDs are inherently bad, they just have to be placed and adjusted properly.
