she didn't even medal actually, it was powerlifting and she DNF'd. which, for powerlifting, means that she failed 3 attempts of a lift and did not move forward.

so if anything, trans women are weaker than cis women, by this metric.

I think in that case age also played a part. She was around 20 years older than 1st place and one of the oldest powerlifting participants ever. The fact that she even qualified at like 44 is absolutely insane and up to that olympics performace she was winning consistently in multiple championships.

I didn't know that tidbit about this event; thanks for sharing!

Alright come on, I agree the ban is stupid but that’s just not true.

incorrect, actually. in every study done, trans women who have been on HRT for around 1-2 years have equivalent bone density, muscle density and blood oxygen levels to cisgender women. typically trans women have less testosterone in their endocrinal system than cis women naturally do, and in Laurel Hubbard's case, she'd been transitioning for over ten years before competing.

source, for the skeptics

No, that’s not what I meant.

The person above claimed trans women were weaker than cis women, which is just blatantly false.

I'd said "by this metric," and I can guarantee there's more strong cis women in the world than there are strong trans women just by sheer large numbers.

regardless, the source I linked actually states trans women on average have a weaker upper and lower body strength, as well as a worse VO2 max than cis women. which I'd use as indicators of both strength and endurance.

I'm weaker than my cis wife. Maybe there's a variation in athletic prowess across all women with some cis women being stronger than some trans women and some trans women being stronger than some cis women?

??? What.

How does you being weaker than your wife mean anything? That’s genuinely stupid logic. I’ll go out on a limb and say you aren’t an athlete, so obviously you don’t train at all.

In terms or strength(like the person above said), trans women and cis women are both roughly equal in strength. Trans women have slightly higher lean muscle mass, but that doesn’t translate into actual usable strength.

My point was variance. Trans women can be and regularly are weaker than cis women.
