🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years What did you move to after side car set up?

Post image
5 Upvotes

This was putting her down for a nap but, this is how I am currently sleeping majority of the night. I stay in the C position and my body hurts. I am half in the crib and half in my bed so my lower back isn’t feeling great. My baby just turned 1 year old and the side car set up is seeming pointless at this point. Should I get a Montessori floor bed? She’s not very happy when I leave her. Can I put the mesh side rails on our bed now? I’m pretty uncomfortable and would love to find a solution that works for her and I to continue sleeping together.

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years What to do while baby sleeps?

My girl (15 months) has co slept for a year now as it was the only way to get some sleep. My question is what are you doing while little one sleeps. I can’t turn on the light to read, watch a movie anything like that. I sometimes can’t even have my phone on or she wakes. I can’t keep going to sleep at 8 pm because I’m getting middle of the night insomnia. Also any tips for getting a very clingy, boob obsessed girl into her own bed and maybe even in her own room?

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks Mom guilt

• Upvotes

My baby boy is 8 weeks (how?! 😭). I'm a FTM living in Canada but from a South American country. I heard lots about avoiding cosleeping from all the medical professionals in my life which clashed with what felt right for my family. I believe in all the benefits cosleeping has on babies.

I resorted to cosleeping after his first couple of weeks when he wouldn't sleep on his back at all. He was really gassy around 3-4 weeks and would only chest sleep. I really loved it but wasn't getting much sleep myself due to waking up to check on him constantly. But still, it felt so precious.

In the last 3-4 weeks, he has been sleeping on his back just fine so at night he sleeps in a bassinet next to me. Sometimes we still pass out with him on my chest so I'm always set up to cosleep just in case. Sometimes I keep him on me on purpose.

During day, he's always sleeping on me or my husband, either in our arms, chest, or a carrier.

I guess I'm just here to express the guilt I feel for putting him in the bassinet most nights. On one hand, I get better sleep at night since he has at least 1 stretch of 4-5 hours. But I also love having him on me and don't want him to miss out on the benefits of cosleeping. Honestly, I feel pretty guilty handing him over to anyone else other than my husband (my MIL is visiting from out of province and will hold him here and there).

Anyways, just here for solidarity and for any advice anyone has for a FTM with mom guilt who's currently holding her baby boy at 4am and doesn't want to let him go.

💁 Advice | Discussion Spiraling and needing encouragement or reassurance

I am a part of the loss community (multiple miscarriages) and with today being the Wave of Light, I was reading a few articles of other loss moms and their stories. A few I stumbled upon were from moms who lost their babies from bed sharing incidents - but most were unexplained (not determined suffocation).

I guess I’m just looking for some reassurance that cosleeping is okay. It’s frowned upon where I live so it feels like I’m doing something illegal and I just want to hear some solidarity from other moms.

My LO is 3.5 months. I have high anxiety that something will happen but we cosleep as she rejects the bassinet and I was getting no sleep before.

🛏 Beds, Products, & Gear Is this an acceptable floor bed?

I’m hoping to invest in something she can be in for a few years and this looks like it could fit both of us comfortably for a while.

Would it be safe to leave her sleeping in it and roll away while watching her on the monitor?

She’s currently 4 months, not sure when this would be suitable. Thanks for advice!

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years Success stories of toddlers self-weaning and transitioning themselves to solo sleep?

Probably wishful thinking but my girl surprises me all the time. She’s 13 months old. Through tons of practice she’s gotten to the point where she can nurse to sleep for a nap and it’ll last about an hour and a half. In the past it’s always been half an hour. She also nurses to sleep for the night and will sometimes give 5 hour stretches when it used to be 1 hour. It’s been so gradual. We have a huge playpen and I lay with her to nurse her to sleep for naps and bedtime. Then when I’m ready to go to bed I sleep alone til she wakes up around 3am and bring her into bed with me. She has also stopped asking to nurse as much. Pretty much just around sleep and once or twice a day.
So yeah- has anyone had weaning or solo sleeping naturally progress on their own?

Sorry for the word vomit lol

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Contact naps and nighttime sleep

Not sure if this fits here, but my 7.5 month old was a contact napper out of necessity due to medical issues until about 5ish months old. Then we got into a good rhythm of her sleeping in the crib during naps, but now she just won’t connect sleep cycles so they’re short and I’m back to contact napping to get her to have longer naps since she refuses to nap more than twice a day now. Previously she would contact nap and sleep through the night no problem. Now she’s needing to cosleep for at least half the night. Is anyone out there successfully contact napping and somehow getting their baby to sleep through the night in the crib or is this a pipe dream?

🐵🙊 Multiple Children Strategies for nursing a new baby overnight in front of my night-weaned toddler?

Looking for ideas on how to approach this new phase of life with my toddler.

Context/Background: I currently cosleep with my almost 2 year old (will be 2 in November). We night weaned in April/May of this year but he still nurses to go to sleep for the night, for nap, when he wakes up in the morning, and occasionally he will ask during the day.

We night weaned by telling him “milk is sleeping” or similar, which he understands. He occasionally still wakes up early asking for milk and if I tell him “milk is sleeping” he will go right back to sleep. Nursing now kind of indicates that it’s time to get up and start the day.

New phase: I’m 38 weeks pregnant…the new baby will be in a bassinet on my left while my toddler has the bed to my right for the time being. I didn’t start cosleeping with my toddler until around 5/6 months and will likely do the same this time. That’s not the issue and I’m not looking for advice there.

New baby will obviously need to nurse every 2-3 hours overnight. I’m looking for advice/ideas on handling the transition with my toddler. Milk is obviously not “sleeping” if the baby is getting it, ya know? Do I let him nurse overnight again if he wakes up and asks? I’m okay with this I think but I don’t want it to signal morning/get up time or regress his sleep…. Are there other approaches to consider? I don’t really want to introduce any jealousy, I’m sure there will be plenty of that naturally that we will need to work through, I’m trying to mitigate what I can be preparing in advance. Just looking for ideas if anyone else has dealt with the same. My toddler really does sleep better after night weaning, and we did it so that I could get more sleep while pregnant.

🛏 Beds, Products, & Gear Sunrising bedding with Firm 2in sleep on latex topper is great

I just slept my first night on this set up and it’s definitely firm enough but so comfy still. I think even the matress alone would work but I already had the topper and love it. I was shocked that with a massive cosleeping community there’s so few actual brand suggestions.for safe beds out there. So if you’re looking for a relatively cheap safe mattress, consider the sunrising bedding brand. I thought it was a scam because every other latex matress is a zillion dollars but I guess not hahahaha hope this helps someone

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years Independent baby -> cosleeping toddler??

I have a bit of an interesting situation here...

My baby is (almost) 5 months old. During his 4 month regression, we moved his crib to his own room with blackout curtains and he sleeps pretty good. He only wakes up like 2x per night (unless he is sick). I nurse to sleep and it works well for both of us. He doesn't usually have problems with transferring at night. I contact nap, mostly in the baby carrier, during the day.

When he is about 13 months old, we will be moving 2 hours away from my husband (who is in the military). I have to return to my doctoral program after a year of maternity leave. Dad will live with us on the weekends, but during the week days, it will just be me and the little one. My baby will also be starting montessori school at 15 months, so it will be a big change for both of us.

Anyway, I am leaning towards getting a king size floor bed for next year and cosleeping with my toddler. Something feels weird to me about sleeping seperately when we are the only ones in the house. I also think the bonding at night will be important since we will be apart during the day.

Has anyone done something like this? Should I just continue to keep him in his own room if he is okay at sleeping independently?

Part of me feels like I am being selfish or weird for wanting to sleep with him in the absence of my husband. I don't want to stiffle his independence or make a harder transition later.

**edited to add**

We do currently do some cosleeping (safe sleep 7). When my husband gets ready for work around 5/6 AM, if the baby wakes up, he brings him to me and we sleep in the bed together until like 8/9 AM.

💁 Advice | Discussion Bedtime routine for 2yo?

My 22mo has started struggling with bedtime recently and a new baby in the mix along with dad handling sleep now has not helped. She starts out in her bed and comes to ours at around 10 while still asleep.I think not having a set routine that’s the exact same every night has made it harder(I brushed her teeth, laid with her and sang a few songs along with some other things that dropped as she got olde,it mainly just turned into singing her a few songs while laying with her)and she won’t go to sleep the same with dad as with me.

What do your bedtime routine’s look like with a toddler and does it help them stay consistent when big changes happen

💁 Advice | Discussion Adult Sleep Sack

I’m looking in to getting the Kyte adult sleep sack with winter approaching. I do not like bing cold and miss my blankets. I wanted to get others opinions on it. Most importantly, should I size up? I don’t want it to be tight but not huge. I’m around 5’3 and 150lbs… thanks! I also want to be able to tuck my feet in if needed.

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years I'm so envious of people whose babies sleep in cribs well.

There are parts about co-sleeping that I enjoy (some snuggling and knowing that she is cared for and that if she cries I'm right there) but overall it's been such a tough experience.

I've been co sleeping since 5mo and my daughter is 14mo now and while objectively I do sleep more co-sleeping my sleep quality is just so poor sometimes it doesn't feel like it matters.

My daughter has never slept through the night, aside from maybe once where she only woke 2x out of the night. Most nights she wakes 3-5x still.

She sleeps around 11-12 hours total (which I know is a normal amount with 45min-1.5 hours of naps) and then it's very broken sleep overnight regardless of low little or how much she naps. She doesn't sleep until 9pm, which makes for such long days and then wakes up around 7am most days.

My husband is on shift with her until 1-2am so I can sleep alone for part of the night but half the time my insomnia (even with meds) keeps me up and I barley get any real sleep before going in with her.

My husband has a very bad back so co-sleeping with her on the floor mattress is not an option (we tried and it basically crippled him) but honestly I'm not fairing much better. I have a connective tissue disorder and my daughter only wants to sleep in a side home most of the time so I wake up in so much pain and like my shoulder and elbow are dislocating. I've ordered a latex mattress topper (OMG WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE?) to see if that helps.

The other issue is that she flails around so much in her sleep. She twitched, scratches me and pulls my hair and clothes all night. God forbid I shift a little to try and get out of pain and she wakes up. We've had her iron levels checked and they are great so no clear medical reason other than she got my shitty ability to sleep.

She got HFM at her first week of daycare this week so it's been extra miserable and I just feel so down.

I know the grass is always greener and everyone is struggling. I also know that I will never regret not holding my daughter enough and being there when she needs me. But it's been almost two years of very little sleep so it's hard when I hear my friends babies all sleep on their cribs for 11-12 hours overnight and they actually feel rested.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Is there ever a point where cosleeping is safe with a premie?

Our little girl was born at 35+6. She actually is a very good sleeper and is so tiny, I have no desire to cosleep with her right now and she does very well in her crib. However, I coslept with my first when he was a little older and he will still come in to snuggle sometimes and it’s so sweet and special for me. I’d love to do the same with my girl eventually. Is it just not safe to cosleep until they reach 40 weeks gestation or is it even after that? Surely you can cosleep with them at 2 years old but what is the age/criteria for it to be safe for premature babies

💁 Advice | Discussion What did you do differently with your second babies sleep?

I am 2 weeks post partum with my second and we cosleep with my first still who is almost 2.My first was a preemie and we coslept out of desperation and still do it and started straight away this time with the newborn because I don’t feel like trying to get my fresh baby in a bassinet and want to enjoy this time since she’s my last(high risks pregnancy).I’m thinking back to my toddlers first year and how I kind of was just winging it with everything including encouraging some kind of independent sleep(she gets a nap by herself and a stretch at bedtime)and I want to be more intentional about the process this time,we never did any kind of CIO but I remember spending way too much time trying to research everything and just getting overwhelmed and a lot of my life at the time centered around sleep because she would only sleep touching me until 8mo.I don’t regret cosleeping at all and still love it but I feel like things shoulf be a little bit different with my second since I won’t be able to just stay in bed with her for every nap likw i could with my first

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years Help— baby up crying for 2-3 hours each night

My son is 12 months now and we have coslept full time since he was 3 months. He’s always been incredibly active in the day and in sleep and has had sleep issues. He falls asleep well but wakes up several times in the night. While that can be maddening for me, I’ve usually always been able to get him back to sleep with nursing. Or my husband can rock him.
But lately, nothing works. And he’s absolutely miserable. He used to wake up happy in the night. Now he’s so freaking tired but can’t get back to sleep. I can tell he’s super frustrated. He will be just on the brink of falling asleep and then something happens to where he moved a certain way and wakes up and screams because he’s so uncomfortable.
We just had his year check up and his doctor who was also my midwife throughout my pregnancy with him says everything looks great.
She suggested I sleep elsewhere for a while so my son doesn’t smell me and wake up.
We are willing to try but I don’t think that’s the issue. And I worry for him and my husband because being up with a crying baby for hours in the night is miserable and my husband is the only working parent right now.
Does anyone have some words of wisdom here? We are REALLY struggling. My marriage is suffering because of it and all of us are so so tired.

Thank you.

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years Cosleeping for 1.5 years. My sex life is essentially dead.

Really came on here to see if there was anyone else who shared similar sentiments and experience. Would like their perspective on things.

Wife and I are both in our late twenties/early thirties and have been cosleeping with our first child. This was something I let her take the lead on as I was a bit ignorant on that topic at the time. I love our child. One of my favorite things is to see her playing in the bed when we wake up. But it has honestly ruined my quality of life in regard to sex.

For the first year, there were many different reasons for not having sex. It was a new adjustment, but it all made sense. Obviously her hormones changed dramatically along with an entire new routine and such.

We tried to fix it by scheduling sex and that was cool for a very short time. But life eventually gets busy and it’s often low on the priority. I’m also not one to pressure her into it, i only like it if it was mutual. But it quickly died out again. Honestly, back when we did have sex, it was always a late night thing.

We tried to put the baby in the crib and I’m sure you can imagine how that worked out. Fits, crying, and whole nights without sleep. (From the baby, of course lol) We’re kind of stuck.

I love our child. And I love the way we are raising her. But if I could go back, I would never cosleep. It honestly has made me resent the idea of even having more children. Idk maybe this is a selfish post. But I don’t care. I’m sure some of you may even agree. Let me know.

And if anyone on this sub is thinking about cosleeping, it’s not worth it IMO.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months How are we transitioning out of cosleeping?

My son never emotionally recovered from outgrowing the bedside bassinet. He’s about 8 months old. I have a twin bed in the nursery (with a floor bed frame) and we just share it.

How can I start planning my freedom?

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Cosleeping to sidecar bassinet sleeping help

Hi all, I'm FTM EBF my almost 11 week old. We cosleep in c curl but it's starting to get uncomfy for me, my sciatica hurts and keeps me up (I even sleep with a pillow between my legs). Sometimes we chest sleep but my baby is also starting to flail and kick at night, regardless if we c curl or chest sleep. Sometimes she stops after feeding but after the first stretch of sleep she could wake up every hour or two. I was wondering if anyone has had any success in getting their baby to sleep into the sidecar bassinet for the first stretch of the night (she can sleep 4-5 hrs for the first stretch).

A few things, my baby has a witching hour from 6-8pm so her sleep is super sensitive during that time. I usually get her to sleep while nursing and then hold her until she's in a deep sleep. Last night I tried to transfer her into the sidecar bassinet after she was in a deeper sleep, kept her close to my body for the transfer, kept my hand on her chest for the transfer, but she started kicking, arching her back and flailing her arms, that went on for a few minutes until she opened her eyes and started fussing, so I just picked her up and put her back to sleep on my arms.

Does anyone have any success stories about this? I do like cosleeping and like I said the ideal would be that she sleeps her first stretch in the sidecar bassinet and then I would take her into bed at the first wake up. Any sleep sacks that worked for you or something?

Thanks so much.

💁 Advice | Discussion 5 months old, still cosleeping

Hi all. I have a five month old baby girl. I have coslept with her since she was about a month old. We both sleep so much better that way. I'm a teacher and my only real time with her is afternoon/evening. I enjoy having that special extra bonding with her too.

My mom and several others have told me I need to stop cosleeping or she will never sleep on her own. My husband is starting to feel the same way. Our sex life has severely diminished (though most of that is due to my hormones and lack of desire) and my mom keeps telling me our relationship will suffer if I don't find a solution to our sleeping situation.

The thing is, I love cosleeping. Last night she slept in her bassinet alone for maybe an hour. The second my husband put her in there I felt the most intense anxiety and loss. I don't know how to explain it. It's obviously very irrational since she was bedside, but it just felt different and wrong.

I'm not sure what to do. Will it really be impossible for her to learn to sleep alone? How do others that cosleep keep their sex life alive with a baby? I'm at a loss for both of these things.

Edited to add: My mom only comes from a place of love. She grew up in a very religious home and has had a lot of hurt from that. She just worries about me a lot! She told me last night long after I made this post that she wasn't trying to push independent sleep and that she never wants me to make a decision that isn't right for baby and I. She just wanted to give me advice based on what she had done since I asked if I really even needed to stop cosleeping.

As for my husband, he's not demanding sex of me, nor is he being very pushy, he's very understanding, just a little disappointed, which is understandable because I am too sometimes.
