Codesmith's Open Source Labs (a "sister charity" registered with the IRS that "manages their students open source projects" using public charitable donations) website and email down for 2 months. The end of the road for OSLabs?

Codesmith's Open Source Labs (https://www.opensourcelabs.io/) has been down for roughly two months now. The DNS was wiped so they have no website, no email, no nothing... they are offline.

Last summer the Codesmith website and email were down for three weeks (https://www.reddit.com/r/codingbootcamp/comments/1me9z67/codesmith_website_down_for_at_least_14_days_and/, NOT MY POST but one of the many posts referencing it).

It ended up being that their credit card expired, they lost control of the phone number used for verification of their root account, and it took several weeks of convincing AWS that they truly did own the account, to regain access and restore Codesmith.io and their email.

Meanwhile, Codesmith itself renamed itself to Codesmith Enterprise. Immersives are on hold. Their IRS $118M partnership has materialized $0, while their peers have received millions of dollars from this partnership.Their founder has moved on to physical AI and replacing human jobs with robots in midwest factories.

After the outage last year, students reported operations collapse and this downtime was detrimental to their business.

So I have to assume that would never happen again right?

If this happened to you, you would make sure nothing like that would ever happen to you ever again...

I was alerted by a Reddit member that one of the remaining two Codesmith leaders said that OSLabs website and email were down because of an "AWS accounting issue"... which sounds to me like bullshit and not the reason an account is taken offline for 2 months. Where are all the websites down for 2 months because of AWS accounting issues??

If Codesmith mismanaged and lost control of another AWS account, I think it's time for their executives to step down and move on to something else that isn't related to computers.

You can't teach others how to program if you can't even manage your own accounts after such repeated demonstrations of incompetence.

Bootcamp on top of master’s?

I’m finishing up my master’s in bioinformatics at a top ~10 US school and I’m interested in ML-focused positions but frankly don’t feel like I’ve learned enough applied skill to pass most ML-focused technical interviews. I’ve been looking into a few ML/DS-focused bootcamps (U Chicago, V Tech, NYC Data Science Academy, Tripleten and a few others) to help specifically with this and portfolio building etc.

I’m aware that the internet is full of free/cheap online resources to DIY this, but I value live instruction and structured learning for this kind of thing enough that I’d be willing to pay for a worthwhile program.

Anyone have experience with a similar path or have thoughts on how reasonable it would be to expect success doing this?

Hackpath cybersecurity bootcamp by that remy.engineering guy. Fake or real?

Hey everyone! I am thinking of taking the bootcamp by hackpath https://hackpath.dev/courses
Has anyone taken it because I can't find any reviews of it. Is it fake? I do like that guy's videos and find it interesting.

Anyone here has experience with Bincom Apprenticeship?

Hi everyone!

I’m an Algerian university student and I’ve recently been accepted into Bincom Dev Center’s C#/Backend Apprenticeship Programme.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has done or is currently doing the programme, especially about the training, workload, projects, and overall experience.

If you have experience with Bincom, I’d really appreciate your insights. 🙏

How can I activate the 3-month Boot.dev benefit from GitHub Student Pack?

I have a verified GitHub Student Developer Pack account, and I’m trying to claim the 3 months of free Boot.dev.

I logged into Boot.dev using my GitHub account, but it still shows that I don’t have any subscription or student benefits.

Has anyone successfully claimed this benefit? Do I need to activate it somewhere through GitHub first, or link my GitHub account to Boot.dev in a specific way?

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m worried.

I’m going to start studying Computer Science in two weeks, and I’m worried because I keep hearing people say that the field is changing too quickly, the job market is dead, there’s no room for new people anymore, and that it’s becoming impossible to learn and keep up.

I’m genuinely anxious right now and I don’t know what to do. I only have a basic understanding of Python, and that’s basically my only experience with programming.

From the perspective of people who have actually gone through this — whether students or people who are already working in the industry — is this really true, or is it exaggerated?

Will I actually be able to learn, build real skills, and eventually get a job?

I’m going to work hard, study, and put in the effort regardless. But will that effort actually pay off? Is there still a realistic path into the industry for someone starting now?

Can a B.Com Graduate Break Into Python Development by Building Real-World Projects?

Hi, I’m currently 25 years old and based in Maharashtra. I completed my B.Com graduation in 2025, and I’m planning to pursue a full-time Python course to transition into the tech field.

If someone with a non-technical background completes a comprehensive Python course and builds 4–5 solid real-world projects to demonstrate practical skills, would companies generally consider such a candidate for entry-level Python/developer roles?

I’m mainly trying to understand the current hiring expectations and whether this would be a realistic career path for someone from a B.Com background. I’d really appreciate your honest perspective as a recruiter.

Any programmer who never graduated from university?

I've noticed that most famous programmers graduated from various universities, and I think it would be a good idea to study computer science at university. But I don't know, my region is just awful. Top universities are too expensive. I just want to be good at computers and live independently. Even my house is too awful.

I'm going to be calling out all 100% AI generated slop posts in here. People with ulterior motives are manipulating us. I'll be here with my real name, defending the integrity of the sub.

There has been a surge in AI generated posts both in here and in other bootcamp-related areas of Reddit. Reddit corporate even shut a subreddit down that full of garbage AI posts and comments.

Be careful, people are trying to create fake conversations to build reputations so they can in the future advertise you things and very subtly promote programs and bootcamps.

They use very cheap and easily detectable AI and bots to do this.

A while ago we had some paid Reddit narketers in here who got caught promoting Codesmith and it destroyed Codesmith's reputation on Reddit and made their life hell for years (which they falsely blamed on me because they had some alleged issues with the truth at the leadership level).

But now they are smarter, quieter, and more patient. Using AI a little bit across more accounts and longer periods of time to grow armies of controlled accounts ready to throw at people.

No more Lars Lofgren and his proteges who claim to know all the "black hat" tricks in the book to manipulate Reddit.

Is code scanning still a thing? what are your toughts on Agent Guardrails?

Been running agents and scanners on my PRs for a while now, triage and native scanning before anything goes up. I've ended up somewhere I didn't expect and want to know if I'm alone.

Started where I think everyone starts: lean on memory. Let the agent carry context session to session, build up a picture of the project. It helps. It wasn't where the gains came from.

What actually moved things was rules written against mistakes the agent already made. Not a generic OWASP checklist. A scoped rule: this defect class showed up, here's the sink, here's the banned construct, stop doing it. A defect shows up a third time, I write a rule, the class stops recurring. Five or six patterns closed instead of a hundred bugs chased one at a time.

The distinction I keep circling: memory is passive, the agent might use it. A glob-scoped rule loads whether the agent wants it or not, tied to the file in front of it. One line of repo rule changes the default output of every session in that repo. And MUST/NEVER phrasing outperforms polite wording by a margin that surprised me.

One thing I'd flag: these files are executable surface. The agent reads them as ground truth, so a poisoned rule file is a real problem, not a hypothetical. I keep security rules separate, reviewed like code, capped so they don't rot.

So, three questions I actually want answers to:

  • Rules-on-mistakes vs raw memory — which is carrying more weight in your setup? I might be over-indexed on rules.
  • How are you scoping? Glob per file, per directory, or one fat rules file everyone edits?
  • Is anyone treating rule and memory files as an attack surface, or am I being paranoid?

Genuinely want to be argued with on the first one. If memory is doing the heavy lifting for you and rules are noise, tell me what your setup looks like.

Software Engineering courses under 10k. Can anyone suggest which course should I join for learning skills for Software Engineering jobs.

I have graduated in 2026 but due to a 6-month internship in my 7th sem I wasn't able to sit in the peak placement season in my college and obviously I didn't get the ppo. Now, I am struggling to land even an internship. I searched and found out the best course right now is scaler academy's course though it costs around 4 lakh. I am not at all interested in investing this much money on a course. I know there is youtube & telegram channels where many courses are uploaded but my problem is I have difficulty learning until there is some structured course. So, if you can suggest me some course which is under 10k INR then it would be a great help.

My tech stack: I know C++, Python, Basic java, SQL. Have some personal projects of AI/ML. More interested in Backend Engineering.

Any recommendations for contract lawyers regarding ISAs? (App Academy)

I was in App Academy about 3 years ago and was there during all of the turmoil as they cut a bunch of staff, transitioned the program to not have all of the live classes, got rid of TAs and career advisors, etc. I received a piece of mail from a loan servicer that they intend to collect the full 36k tuition from me beginning in October. I've had a little bit of communication via Coding Temple who acquired them since then, but this piece of mail still does come as a surprise. Just curious if anyone has been in a similar position, and if so, if they might have any recommendations for a contract lawyer as I begin to deal with this. I'm in Chicago, IL if relevant. Thanks for any help!

BREAKING: Codesmith launching free "Foundational Launchpad" in partnership with the NYC TTP (for NYC Residents making under $50K a year) to prepare for unspecified but planned "Future Code" cohort

SOURCE: https://codesmith.io/foundational-launchpad and https://codesmith.io/future-code

Codesmith recently shut down their Immersive program pending "government and enterprise" partners (which was never a requirement in the past so this seems like a fake excuse to shut down) and their CEO stepped down with no replacement published (and no official notice of the departure). Additionally last week Codesmith lost a task order under the IRS BPA and still hasn't made any money from the $118M IRS BPA according to public records while their peers have all receive hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars under the BPA.

I struggle to find any placements in 2026 at all, and their open source products are degrading with security issues.

So things objectively aren't going well for Codesmith.

BUT one GOOD thing is there might be a new Future Code cohort coming up. I don't know if a single person was placed in the previous cohort (largely impacted by the job market) and they delayed and paused Future Code cohorts at the time.

They launched a free Foundational Launchpad program in partnerhip with the Tech Talent Pipeline (TTP) meant to help prepare people for Future Code.

I can't find any TTP/NYC sources on this but will update if I see them. Codesmith claims they are partners in this program.

You can do a 20hr/week or 6hr/week option and it's entirely self paced with optional weekly paid programming and study group sessions.

The curriculum looks like a lot of overlap with their existing CSX offering and the sessions seem like their existing pair programming sessions. So I'm not sure if this is a reframing of CSX

Let's hope not because that's a scam to have NYC pay for 1-2 contract employees to improve CSX for Codesmith's own business and then just frame it as a special program for NYC residents.

CSX is a very terrible platform that leaks user data last I checked.

EDIT: the Future Code cohort date was announced to be November 30th, 2026. the Launchpad date is November 6th, so it seems like it will run concurrently.

Wannabe bootcamp teacher at a crossroads

Hi all, I need some advice. I am at a bit of a cross roads right now. To give you a bit of a background on myself, I have a Higher Certificate in Web and Mobile app development (I couldn’t afford to get my degree at the time.) and I am currently working part-time as a coding tutor for kids. As you can imagine I want full time employment and that's where my dilemma lies.

My dream job would be to teach programming at a bootcamp or something similar. The problem is that these jobs are hard to come by and I don't think I am qualified enough.

The way I see it I have a few options:

  1. I can go for my degree in CS at my local university and then try to get a junior web dev job (but the job market for that is super brutal on that.) From there I can try to get a  bootcamp job.

  2. I can go through a bootcamp myself and hopefully that will increase my chances of getting a junior web dev job/bootcamp job. Again, I am not sure of my chances here.

  3. I go for a teaching degree. My country has a shortage of teachers and it feels like I would have a better chance of getting work via this route. But this has some drawbacks.

I'd prefer to work with adults. A teaching degree would take much longer than the other options. And lastly, I have heard horror stories about what it's like to be a teacher.

What would you recommend. I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks

GitHub emailed me this morning, saying I’ve been removed from my bootcamp’s GH organization (Galvanize)

As such I literally got 76 separate emails, saying all of my GitHub repos that I forked from my bootcamp’s GitHub have been deleted. All of the people who were in my bootcamp with me said the same thing happened to them too.

I left tech at the beginning of the year, and I probably haven’t opened any of these repos since finishing my bootcamp 8 years ago. But it’s still disheartening to see all of that learning material that I worked hard to complete get flushed down the drain.

Anyone taken Noble Desktop’s AI Coding Bootcamp with Claude Code in NYC?

I am considering Noble Desktop’s AI Coding Bootcamp with Claude Code -- the in-person NYC session starting September 8.

Has anyone here actually taken this course (there was one cohort in June 2026)? I would love to hear an independent opinion on the instructor, curriculum, value for money ($2,995 tuition).

Noble has one very positive review of the Claude Code bootcamp on its own site, but I have not been able to find much independent feedback yet.

Anyone take the June class or know someone who did?

AV Tech looking to expand skillset

Hello all

I’m currently an AV Tech at a large company and make a decent salary, but have grown a bit tired of the job. I have a solid IT/AV background and work with an endpoint team that focuses more on backend applications, platforms, automation, and device management.

I’m looking to build new skills and eventually transition into endpoint engineering, automation, or software development, ideally into a remote role with higher earning potential.

I’ve been considering learning Python and other programming skills, but I keep hearing that coding boot camps aren’t worth the cost anymore.
For someone with my background, what would be the best path? Would you recommend self-teaching, a boot camp, certifications, or focusing on specific technologies like Python, PowerShell, Azure, SQL, and APIs? Is it worth doing a complete rebuild and getting a BS in CS?

I’d appreciate advice on the best path forward here, especially from someone who has made a similar transition. What you would do if you were starting from my position?

Looking to judge hackathons!

I’m looking for opportunities to serve as a hackathon judge and would love to connect with organizers who are looking for judges.

I have ~10 years of experience across Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning/Data Science, and I’m currently an Engineering Manager at a US-based retail company.

I’ve participated in and thoroughly enjoyed many hackathons over the years—especially the opportunity to see creative ideas, innovative solutions, and new technologies come together. I’d now love to contribute from the other side and help evaluate and provide feedback on the next generation of exciting projects.

If you’re organizing a hackathon and looking for judges, please feel free to message me. I’d be happy to connect and explore the opportunity!

Thank you!
