Puzzle/Tactic - Advanced Would you bet 10$ to find the mate in 2 for White on the streets?

Post image

I was walking around the streets of Manila when I came across this. You can only solve the puzzle once you bet 500 pesos that you can mate Black in 2. (10$).

Hustler earned around 50$ from all the wrong answers. The puzzle was never solved, and my candidate solutions were all wrong. Turns out the winning move wasn't too complicated after all...

Puzzle/Tactic - Advanced Stockfish found an absolutely disgusting move in my post-game analysis. White to play and win.

I was genuinely shocked when I saw the lines, because every move is equal or losing for white here except for pawn to a3.

Not sure if this post counts as low-effort, but I just wanted to share it because the move is just so unnatural to me.

The reason behind the move is (I think)to counter Black's imminent threat of Rh1 by making an escape square and avoiding mate on the back rank. If Black plays Qxd1+ Rh1 anyway, there is eventual forced mate after Qa5+.

Puzzle/Tactic - Advanced Is it possible to perform a triple check?

I’m wondering if triple checks can happen. Double checks happen all the time, but a triple check is really hard to achieve and I can’t think of any way to do it. Any ideas?

So I was playing a 10 minute game when my opponent all of a sudden pinned my queen to my king. I didn’t see that he could do that at all, so I was about to resign when I found this beautiful unique tactic to save my queen and win the game!

Give yourself a minute with no engine and treat it like a real game rather than a puzzle. I just want to see how higher-rated players think.

1800 rapid btw
