Watch the LISD Council of PTAs candidate forum https://youtu.be/-9fiDO24aVY
Here is my very brief take on how each candidate came across. I'm still firm in my decision to vote for Serenity, Chitra and Jason.
Place 1
- Gerald Prater. We heard he recently passed away 😢. RIP!
- Serenity Coats. Her answers were directed at the questions. She described her volunteer history and tied her kids experience to some issues from special education to advanced learning. She talked about advocating for teachers, looking at student rigor and opportunities and involving the community.
Place 2
- Meg Dean. She said she only got involved because her kid's elementary school was at risk of closing. She was all about elementary enrollment data analysis and no mention of the extensive programs and issues at all levels of education. She has a very narrow one dimensional view without regard for multiple complex issues.
- Perla Munoz Hopkins. She said she's a former teacher at Glenn and Rouse. In my opinion, she hardly answered what was asked. Her responses came across as answering whatever questions she created. She also threw out some falsehoods. I asked around and contrary to what she said, the district is not under investigation for Special Education.
- Chitra Nedun. She answered the questions asked. As a nod to her opponents, she reminded us that she didn't just get involved because her kids school was at risk of closing and she has not run several campaigns looking for which one would stick. She's an LISD mom, volunteer and technology leader who will seek the right information needed to make decisions.
Place 7
- Jason Embry. His answers were targeted at the questions. He shared his volunteer history and his professional work at the intersection of education and policy makes him ready on day 1.
- Paul Gauthier. What a clown 🤡 unserious and lacking any substance with his answers.
