Wait, are you saying there's some connection between Ben and Glory?

Ben! Glory! He's a doctor, she's the beast! Two entirely separate entities sharing one body. Its like a bloody sitcom!
194
u/Tatidanidean1 14d ago
Wait, what do you mean “sharing one body”? Are you saying Ben has something to do with Glory?!?
141
u/WWind4 14d ago
Excellent. Now, do we suspect there may be some kind of connection between Ben and Glory?

u/Deep_Ambition2945 Must Be Tuesday 14d ago
What do you mean? We don't. What do Ben and Glory have in common? No offense, but it sounds a bit silly. I've never even seen them in the same place at the same time.

Dr. Jekyll and Miss Hell Bitch 😂 or even better: Miss Oh-Sweaty-Naughty-Feelings-Causing-One 😂
I always loved how her minions sucked up and fawned over her 😂 Let's be honest. I'm imagining I'm an unfortunate minion forced to work for a... quite unstable, violent, sadistic, egomaniacal, ridiculously powerful goddess who would be thrilled to stab me to death with her latest pair of stilettos. Yeah, I'd grovel and suck up 😂

My boyfriend is watching Buffy for the first time and was so confused about Dawn, when I watched with my brother when it first released back in 2000, we all thought we had missed an episode 🤣
22
u/xeothought 14d ago
Back when I did my first legit watch through (I had seen out of order episodes as reruns and well as the occasional live show before then) I thought I downloaded a mis labeled season lolol
6
u/Usagi179 13d ago
I also watched it on the air and I remember getting sooooooo pissed because i thought the show was pulling a cousin Oliver.

Gaslighting newbies over Dawn is one of the few times gaslighting is perfectly acceptable
46
u/Sun_keeper89 14d ago
They must suffer the way we did when the season was new
11
u/Constant_Ant_2343 14d ago
It this isn’t suffering like we did, if ops friend goes through the beginning of the season thinking Dawn has just been in LA then it will not be the same experience at all
15
u/Sun_keeper89 13d ago
People who didnt have the dvds or whatever couldn't rewind or rewatch episodes to confirm whether or not she had been there or had been mentioned before. In the confusion people thought all kinds of things. I remember assuming that I had just missed her somehow, or that I missed some episodes.
5
u/battlejess 13d ago
You don’t get to come up with your own theories though if someone else, who you know has seen it, is insisting she’s existed the whole time.
10
u/Sun_keeper89 13d ago
You can do whatever you want cause this is a tv show and not at all that serious, and friendships without the occasional prank are boring af
2
u/battlejess 13d ago
Absolutely (not in my friendships, but I’m not going to police other people about theirs), I’m just saying it’s not the same experience.
12
u/Moxson82 14d ago
I was so confused and couldn’t believe I had to wait another season to find out wtf lmao

25
u/catgirl320 14d ago
Those of us who watched first run, with the long months between new seasons, definitely felt like we had either missed some mentions or else were having a collective stroke. It really was brilliant to watch in real time, annoying teen as she was lol.

u/Past-Cap-1889 13d ago
I think doing it for Glory and Ben is only good once or twice. We see the switch on screen, so it's clear we're just messing with them.
That being said, it is funny once or twice....
6
u/ex_ter_min_ate_ 13d ago
What do you mean they switch on screen?
3
u/BabserellaWT 13d ago
It’s like Ben was here and then Glory was here? I think? …No, it’s totally unrelated.

u/Accomplished-Stay308 14d ago
Saying that there were mentions is gaslighting. I do not approve.
But I did laugh.
42
u/Wolf-Majestic 14d ago
She was mentioned though ! Both Buffy and Faith had dreams with each other in it, talking about Dawn coming. Buffy's was when she woke up at the hospital in S3 after Angel drank her blood I think ? And Faith's was just before woking up from her coma (bless be Cordie)
17
u/Accomplished-Stay308 14d ago
Those are Easter eggs/allusions! At the time it was aired, no one knew that it would mean she was gonna get a magical sister! That only made sense in hindsight!
There is a difference to how OP is presenting that Dawn was mentioned! Understand the difference!
29
u/Gruffleson Bored, now 14d ago
Yeah, we should react like people watching it live would. I myself was sadly spoiled. But just say it as people talking when it aired originally. Like, what??? Her mother said she was an only child in earlier episode, what???
57
u/An0nymos 14d ago
But there were. Dream Faith in one of Buffy's Slayer-driven dreams mentions 'little sis' and 'Dawn's coming'...
16
u/Accomplished-Stay308 14d ago
Those were Easter eggs/allusions, granted. But OP specifically made up Dawn staying with her dad.
Like I said, it is gaslighting and therefore I don‘t approve, but it is damn funny. There are two wolves in all of us.
12
u/FemboyRune 14d ago
How is it gaslighting if it isn't a lie? And where the hell did you get that the explicit references to Dawn's prophecy are 'easter eggs' rather than very intentional writing choices meant to, yes, allude to future story while making Dawn's appearance very much NOT sudden?
7
3
u/Constant_Ant_2343 14d ago
I laughed too but I do agree with you. There are only too correct reactions to a newbie asking questions about dawn, anything else will just melt it less enjoyable for them. A) “just go with it, I don’t want to spoil anything, you’ll be glad I didn’t “ or B) “ what are you talking about? Dawn is a recurring character, she lives with Joyce and Buffy and has been there from the very beginning”
27
u/abadbadman_ 14d ago
Gaslighting is old, but so is Buffy so it's a tradition for a reason. Keep us updated when they find out.

This is how the show is supposed to be experienced. I watched for the first time with my parents who immediately told me who and what Dawn was, and also that Buffy would die and be resurrected, and--literally every other spoiler under the sun including Willow being gay (except that they messed it up and said Cordelia by accident). It sucked.
You're doing exactly what you should ♥️

I'm reminded of Xander's famous quote: "Well it's funny if you're me..."

21
u/StrawberryFieldPoet 14d ago
I actually don't like this because it woukd confuse me if I was watching for the first time. Like even when they explained it I'd still think I missed something
3
u/Sun_keeper89 14d ago
That's literally what happened to all of us in real time back when this season came out, lol
This pain is what the writers intended
5
u/NanasTeaPartyHeyHo 14d ago
I was rewatching buffy with my bf and this scene pops up where dawn shows up and he asked me.. have we seen her before?? And I had to do some acting.

I genuinely think this is the right thing to do so they can experience the realization with the characters

Yes but we accept.
I still remember watching that when it first aired and just being so flipping confused. I was ashamed to ask anyone about it the next day bc I felt like I missed a whole season or something.

I hate this so so much
Riding out the story is the best part of it. The fact that they don't explain it immediately was both aggravating and amazing to watch as it aired. It's literally a central part of the experience and at least once a week, someone's in here giggling that they took that away from someone
You're ruining the Buffy experience and it's just as shitty as shouting spoilers. The episodes following her introduction are supposed to be spent trying to figure out who or what she is and how she got there. That can't happen if she's supposed to have always been there
5
u/ladyfromtheclouds 13d ago
Oh thank you! I agree and am surprised nobody else in this post says it.
35
u/InfiniteMehdiLove ☂ 14d ago
It's so tired too. You'll be asked, "where's your sense of wHiMsY?" or be called a wet blanket but I agree. I'd just say she's Buffy's sister and to trust the show.
17
u/pipnwig 14d ago
A simple "keep watching" is what I default to
4
u/QualifiedApathetic I'd like to test that theory 13d ago
But I think the introduction of Dawn was meant to make us question our certainty that Buffy had been an only child all along. It was supposed to fuck with our heads, and I think OP was trying to preserve that experience. "Keep watching" in itself implies that an explanation is forthcoming, one that will make it make sense, but an explanation isn't needed if Dawn is simply Buffy's sister who was living with their sperm donor.
21
u/DRUGEND1 14d ago
100%. OP’s friend isn’t getting the proper experience if they think it’s their own fault they’ve not known who Dawn is this whole time. Shite, ill-judged patter.
19
u/AdministrativeLaugh2 14d ago
Same. Like just watch the show and it’ll be revealed, as with every show (except perhaps Lost)

Ok, but imagine how funny it would be to do this...
4
u/Paleflower-H 13d ago

No but seriously, it’s a right of passage, we were all gaslit when it first came out, it’s part of the experience3
3
3
u/DryManufacturer8688 14d ago
I've done the same with my partner, when I was rewatching and he was watching for the 1st time. But I've used ideas from other threads from here about what was Dawn doing in previous series, like how she (instead of Willow) was attacked by Angelus, or how she was keeping an eye on Snyder during that episode with chocolate, when they were all behaving like teenagers.
For a while he was pretty confused, but after a while he found out I was lying, I'm not a good liar.
3
u/Robertinho678 13d ago
I always do this, but I usually stop before they start questioning reality 😂

Mean? Yes. Generally it's best to just let them talk and cackle at their theories, refusing to spoil things. Not make up any falsehoods. Those little easter eggs from previous seasons though? You could have pointed them out, no problem. But that^ is overboard.
People should just hand new s5 watchers some red yarn and a corkboard and let them spin out for a bit, then watch the "pull back the curtain" spell episode once they've calmed down.

4
u/Jajay5537 14d ago edited 14d ago
Anyone downvoting this must have missed the "little sis" mention by Faith in the slayer shared prophetic dreams at the end of season 3.
3
u/Hallwitzer 14d ago
We need to start telling people Dawn has been there the whole time, but was simply recast in order to age her up for the season because she'll have a bigger role.
