Neon Gods series [Discussion 2/4] (Bonus Book) Shattered Gods by Katee Robert (Book 10): Chapter 9 to Chapter 15
NSFW...sort of? At least there is some sex now...
Circe and Hermes have a reunion post-drugging and Atlanta keep evacuating the top echelon-but then there's a knife fight and a daring rescue! And we end up back to Hermes and Circe sexing. Sure, Atalanta's knife wound was totally worth it, right?
Meanwhile, on headlines in Muse Watchβ’: "Olympus has fallen...and we're not mad about it?"...okay.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Atlanta, on the romantic challenge of a live body:
"Of everyone in this cursed city, I know how much Hermes loves Circe, even after all these years. I thought I had to compete with ghost, but now there's a real, live woman bursting back into our lives, and that is a different kind of battle-even if she wasn't trying to kill dozens of people" -Chapter 10
Hermes, on the "Circe Effect":
βAfter the last time she kissed me and drugged me, I really should know better, but my brain goes a bit fuzzy around her. Or maybe she's got some kind of pheromone perfume that drop my IQ dramatically every time I get within touching distance" -Chapter 12
Hermes, on drooling, while being carried by Atalanta in her daring rescue:
"I can only lift my head a little bit, so my face is pressed against the back of her neck. Now is not the time to notice how damned good she smells. Being hit with the nearly overwhelming urge to follow her spine with my lips is not particularly helpful either- and not just because I'm more likely to drool all over her instead of do it properly"- Chapter 12
Atlanta, on vows and redemption:
"Hermes. Hecate. the same and not the same. Circe's laughter circles my head again and again, promising that no matter what happens, I'll lose Hermes in the end. Because I will kill Circe. And that just might be the one thing Hermes won't forgive me for"-Chapter 13
Circe, on setting goals:
"And I want revenge. I'm not a fucking saint, after all. I want blood to run just like my blood ran from Zeus's abuses" -Chapter 14 (Editor: This could be an amazing rap, btw. Has she missed a career change post escape that could have been healthier?)
Location, location, location:
βA distant part of me is horrified that we're fucking on the floor when there are plenty of perfectly adequate pieces of furniture around. Or, gods forbid, a bed. There not space for that kind of pause, to slow down long enough to move positions." -Chapter 15

Next week, we go further into the chaos and read Chapters 16-25.

5. Any quotes or other things to discuss? Did you appreciate the Apollo/Cassandra cameo?

Things to discuss - u/lazylittlelady have I ever told you how much I appreciate your posts. I love how you write them and the witty commentary. Best part of this series imho!

Thank you so much u/fixtheblue ! It is a strange last book to put the series to bed with.

4. Can Atalanta get between Hermes and Circe or is this a lost cause?

Hmm i guess I assumed that she would. Kinda shitty that she's healing from a poking while Hecate is literally getting a poking! Cam she forgive that betrayal? Nother trouple storyline?
Seriously though I'd rather see Hermes with Atalanta than Cice, but I would also rather see Atalant tell Hecate to do one!

I'm willing to bet it's another throuple. Big, scary, scarred baddie PLUS hyper-feminine goddess who can murder you PLUS feisty upbeat friend who keeps you on your toes. Also, they're all super hot, obviously.
Atalanta deserves better!!

3. We have the transition from the title Hermes to her real name, Hecate? What does this mean?

u/fixtheblue Read, ergo sum | π«ππ₯||π§ π₯ 29d ago
Her humanity came back? She's not being grouped in with the others anymore? Idk. What do you think u/lazylittlelady

We're de-transitioning from Dark Olympus to whatever comes next...both personally and politically, I guess. At this point, after the decisions she's made in the last few books, I don't see the point of her story.

2. Why is Hermes so stupid around Circe? Is it really pheromones driving this? Banging for lost time?

u/fixtheblue Read, ergo sum | π«ππ₯||π§ π₯ 29d ago
Cause there would be zero sex scenes in this book if she wasn't ha ha. I feel bad for Atalanta. Also lusting after Circe while she is on a murderous rampage seems....maladjusted! Hecate, girl, you can't fix her!

1. Do you feel more sympathy for Circe's cause? Is she "wonderful"-if so, how?
3

I understand wanting revenge on the person who hurt you. Hell, even wanting to dismantle the system, sure! But wanting to murder the people in charge (some of who had nothing to do with your bad situation) AND kill off their entire bloodlines? Honestly, she's no better than the old Zeus at this point. She's straight up discussing murdering the unborn children of Persephone and Hera!! She's crazzzzyyyy.

IKR! He tried to kill me and now, Iβll kill everyone for not stopping him? So, like Hades didnβt toss him out of a window after being similarly mistreated by him as a child and nothing bad happened?

Circe is the worst. I hate how far this series has fallen. π©

I guess she's badass. A but scary. And in need of therapy. Dunno I'd go so far as wonderful but then I' not the one getting....erm...attention on the floor with her. Maybe I'd think her wonderful too then lol

6. Any predictions? What would you WANT to happen in the second half of the book?
