Optimistic to think it'll be only 3 with all the aging multi year contracts still on the books.

I just looked up some of those contracts. You could turn the Phillies into a retirement home team.

We used to have the day care. Now all those guys are helping run the elder care facility.

Citizens Bank Park is where the league sends old Washington Nationala to live out their days in peace

I figure the years after that will be bad. Losing records and irrelevant

Getting eliminated in the wildcard round is a success, hang the banner!

It’s funny because we actually will get a banner to hang at the ballpark (It’ll be powder blue) just like in 2023.

So damn pathetic lol. Don’t forget the banner for only team to get to game 3 on the WC!

Well, we'll probably lose at least one of them to the labor stoppage when the owners try and force a cap next year.

Jokes on you. This is lining up perfectly for us to fire him mid 2028 and have 2 really good month with another interim manager and everyone gets tricked into thinking we’re good again

Why would hiring a specific manager make a team mediocre?

If they hired someone else, they’re all of a sudden World Series contenders?

Like what difference would it make if they brought in another established guy like say, Joe Maddon? Or promoted Dusty Wathan to manager? Or even went outside the box and brought in somebody like Raul Ibanez?

It makes no difference. The team is the team. The manager doesn’t really affect anything at all.

Having gone from a checked out Brain Snitker last year to an aggressive manager in Walt Weiss this year, the manager 100% makes a difference.

It's wild that person saying the manager doesn't matter, when just this season, their own team fired their 9-19 manager and proceeded to go 79-55 the rest of the way.

Feel like Zack Wheeler coming back from injury at the same time has something to do with that

Its a joke because hiring Mattingly just signifies thats the idea...mediocrity...in addition to all the aging stars.

It doesn’t, but okay.

i dunno man, there are some brain dead coaches out there (see former Mets manager Mendoza). Sometimes players dont gel with the manager and their style either

The manager doesn’t really affect anything at all.

I love when people say this, as if they're incapable of realizing that "boss at a job" absolutely matters.

A Bad Boss at a workplace is a bad thing, and a Good Boss at a workplace is good thing.

u/patrickdgd Philadelphia Phillies 12h ago

And Don was obviously a good boss based on their record, right? So why is everyone mad? If he is so important then he must be the reason they had a great record under him.

It either goes both ways or it isn’t true.

I wasn't discussing whether Don is a good manager or not. I was discussing the "Manager doesn't matter" mindset people have.

1

u/patrickdgd Philadelphia Phillies 11h ago

Yes, but what I’m saying is, if the manager DOES matter (which it doesn’t) shouldn’t Phillies fans be HAPPY that Don is back since he had such a good record this year? They’re not. They’re mad.

So either:

  1. Manager does matter, and bringing back Don is good.

  2. Manager doesn’t matter. Hire whoever.

  3. Manager does matter, but bringing back Don is bad for whatever reason even though he had a good record.

It doesn’t make sense.

I think we're just sick of this team, is all. People are frustrated and are lashing out. Nobody's happy with anything right now.

Yeah, having a top payroll and making the playoffs five times in a row is so frustrating. I wish I was a Pirates fan instead.
