selfq Macladin - Claritromicina

Hello everyone, I need your help!

I’m currently taking antibiotics for a throat infection, but I’m having a really hard time. My throat is very swollen, so the pill is too big to swallow whole. I have to break it, but even when I hide it in food or spreads, I still feel that horrible taste and I feel like throwing up. I don’t know what to do and I’m afraid I won’t be able to finish my period.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this situation? Are there any tricks to mask the taste or to make it easier to swallow the pill when the throat is so inflamed? Every suggestion is welcome!

selfq ciprofloxin 500mg and sunlight exposures

I am on ciprofloxin 500mg every 12 hours for ten days. Pharmacist at Walgreens said to stay out of the sun while taking it. I read up on the side effects and sunlight/UV exposures so I pretty much stay in doors, and when I have to go out I wore long sleeve shirts, long pants with a hat - which looks ridiculous in Miami when it's 95 out.

Now I am finishing it off, last two days, my last dose will be Friday night.

A friend is doing a beach BBQ on Saturday. I am off the cipro on Friday night, is it fine? My thinking is there is going to be some residual effects and I better wait till after the weekend to be on the safe side.

selfq Avelox After Effects?

Out of curiousity, has anyone taken Avelox? What were your side effects afterwards? I was prescribed a 10 day 400 mg course for a nasty secondary infection from a brown recluse bite, and while it got rid of the infection (yay) I just finished it four days ago and I am SO tired. Like can't think straight tired, heavy eyes kinda tired. I Googled it and it said recovering from the bite itself or the meds could do that, but how long does it last? I go back for my regular wellness check in 4 weeks. I hope its over by then.

selfq Taking my last dose tonight, can I have one single alcoholic beverage?

This is clearly a stupid question, however I am wondering what people’s experiences may be. I’ve been on a 7 day round of bactrim twice a day for an abscess, and tonight I took my last dose. Everywhere online says to wait a full 48 after taking the last dose before consuming alcohol. I’m not a big drinker, but I’ve had a shitty week and all I want is a damn tequila soda. Just one. Was wondering if it would be worth possible complications such as nausea, etc. Thanks in advance for any advice! I’m also planning on starting another round two days from now, so I’m trying to sneak one drink in the mean time.

Metronidazole issues

So I have a major concern I am unsure how to handle. I was prescribed metronidazole for BV, but I previously took it for an infection following wisdom teeth removal surgery; it caused severe effects, including extreme acne and weight gain. I have only taken antibiotics twice before, and being 18 makes me quite anxious that the same outcome might occur. I am also wondering whether I should seek a second opinion from another obgyn or just take the medication and pray for the best.

500mg azithromycin - watery diarrhea 5 hours later

Hi, I’ve had a bad upper respiratory infection for 6 days. My doc saw fluid in my ears and prescribed 500mg of azithromycin for 3 days. (Context, I’m deaf in one ear so ear infections terrify me).

I took my first dose around 5-6 hours ago and already have very watery diarrhea 2x, along with some nausea (but no vomiting). I called teladoc to ask if I can safely take pepto or Imodium and she said yes. I also heard her microwave going off in the background and a lot of background noise in general, so worry she barely paid attention to my questions.

Is it generally safe to take pepto or Imodium with 500mg of azithromycin to slow down the watery diarrhea? Can one dose cause it that fast? Sad I trust strangers on the internet more than my teladoc provider lol!

Thanks

selfq Can I split this pill in half?

F/27 normal height and weight. This is more of a pharmacist question.

I take prophylactic macrobid for UTI prevention. it was originally prescribed at 50 mg, but my new doctor didn’t ask about dosage when she rewrote the script and gave me 100mg. These are fairly big pills encased in a plasticky casing, since I know 50 mg does the trick can I just take them out of the casing and cut them in half to stretch the prescription? Or will that mess with the absorption?

selfq Diarrhea during & after antibiotics

I was prescribed Augmentin after coming down with an infection. I only took 3 doses of it before I started having bad diarrhea so my doctor switched me to amoxicillin. When I made the switch, the frequency with which I used the bathroom decreased (once per day) but my stools were still loose and I was passing a lot of gas.

I completed the full 10 day course of amoxicillin a week ago. 2 days after finishing, I started to have diarrhea again and have had anywhere from 1-3 episodes per day since. I've also passed some formed stool 2-3 times this week but they have usually been followed by diarrhea shortly after. Whenever I have diarrhea, there is urgency.

I have already submitted a stool sample to test for c. diff and am awaiting the results. I am also currently taking Florastor, eating a ton of yogurt, and sticking to a bland diet.

I've had diarrhea when taking antibiotics before but have never had it extend a week out from stopping them. Is this normal?

Are these still good to take?

The back of my throat started hurting bad since Wednesday. Just on one side near my tonsils are. I don’t see any white spots or anything but it make me think I got strep throat again so I’m wondering if my old amoxicillin I got from last year is still good to take? Idk might lowkey be going away already but just wanted to see if it’s worth taking this medicine at all at this point with the expiration being 5 months ago

selfq Anyone experienced panic attacks or breathing anxiety when falling asleep on doxycycline?

I’m a 26M, currently on day 4–5 of taking doxycycline (100mg twice daily).
Over the past few nights, I’ve started experiencing something really strange whenever I’m about to fall asleep. Just as I’m drifting off, I suddenly feel like I’ve stopped breathing or need to manually breathe, which jolts me awake with a rush of panic and anxiety. Heart racing as well. Feels like I’m dying nearly.
This keeps happening repeatedly and makes falling asleep extremely difficult. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this before. Never had anxiety or depression before. Only ever time I’ve had “panic attacks” was maybe once a year from overdoing marijuana. However I’ve been clean from alcohol and marijuana for 3 months.

Does doxycycline stop acne from coming back after coming off?

I was prescribed doxycycline for my acne at 25. Is it usually prescribed under the assumption that the patient is entering adulthood and is about to grow out of the acne themselves and this is a temporary thing to take while that happens or is it actually meant to stop it from coming back? I asked my doctor and she said it is meant to stop it from coming back after taking it but I can’t find anything that supports that claim? I can only find it only treats it while you’re on it

selfq 40 Days of Antibiotics

I developed a fingernail infection after a nail salon visit. It has led to multiple rounds of antibiotics, side effects requiring additional medication, and surgery to remove the nail. My cultures came back positive for two different bacteria.
I’ve been on antibiotics for around 40 days, and now I’m taking Amoxicillin 875 mg twice daily and Cephalexin 500 mg three times daily. I’m already experiencing side effects and am worried about what this much antibiotic use could do to my body.
Has anyone experienced something similar? How concerned should I be about the side effects of prolonged antibiotic use, especially taking two antibiotics at once?
I’m in my mid 30s, if it helps.

Did bactrim ds make my face break out? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I had to take bactrim ds for a staph infection in my groin I was on it for 7 days. I had a horrible experience with side effects but I powered through it. I finished up my last dose 2 days ago. But while I was taking the medication my face started to break out a little bit and it’s gotten worse even when i finished taking them. Some spot on my face are lighter than others, reddish crust, and the bottom of my lips are red and feel dry, and inflamed I think. I’m not even sure if the bactrim caused all this but it’s the only thing I can think of. I’m hoping it’s just a mildish reaction to the antibiotic but I would really love an opinion on what this looks like if anyone can please I can also provide more info if needed.

Missed dose on last day

I’m currently taking Nitrofurantoin for 5 days, twice a day. Today is day 5, but I forgot to bring my pills to work and missed my morning dose. Since I had to stay late, it’s now time for my evening dose. I know I shouldn’t take a double dose, but should I just take my evening dose now and take the missed morning dose tomorrow?

selfq weird episodes

hi,

I’ve been having weird episodes where i’ll be completely fine then out of nowhere I feel a warm wave go down my whole body, my chest starts feeling like something is seriously wrong, I start involuntarily crying, get light headed. During them my sugar is fine, bp is fine. I went to the ER twice bc it was lasting off and on for hours and thought something was seriously wrong. When it happens something feels “off” in my body. All lab work, hormones, brain CT, urine and stool samples everything has been clear! Can anyone think of anything this could be???

I took keflex for 10 days, then 10 days of bactrim due to cellulitis on my arm from my insulin pump site getting infected. These episodes became very intense after starting the bactrim. I have been off of them for 3 weeks now and having small short episodes of it less frequently. This may be completely separate from the antibiotics, I have no idea. I did have this happen twice before, but I could have been on antibiotics those times as well? It’s hard to tell. They are random, sporadic episodes.

TIA for any help

selfq Macrobid severe side effects – how long until they went away?

Hi everyone!

I stopped taking Macrobid about 36 hours ago because I experienced some really frightening side effects: tingling and numbness in my arms, legs and face, muscle weakness, dizziness, nausea, headaches, back pain, racing heart and severe anxiety.

I even started having paranoid thoughts that I was dying or that my body was shutting down. I've never experienced anything like this before.

I'm feeling slightly better since stopping, but the symptoms still come and go in waves.

For those who experienced severe side effects from Macrobid, how long did it take for your symptoms to completely disappear after stopping? A few days, weeks or longer?

I'm especially interested in neurological symptoms and anxiety.

Thank you! ❤️

selfq Antibiotics concern

So I was recently told I need to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth out because my gums are growing on top of them. My main concern isn’t the surgery but the medication.
I have emetaphobia BAD and I can’t take amoxicillin because it has caused me to vomit in the past when I’d take it for strept. I’m worried since antibiotics are known to cause nausea and idk what to do. My surgeon said I have to take antibiotics to prevent any infections that could potentially occur. he said he gives it to everyone just as a precaution. Will something like zofran help? I read into Zithromax as being more stomach appealing but what else would be okay?

With or without food?

Hi all. I'm on a 10 day course of both Penicillin C (4 x a day) and Co - amoxiclav (3 x day). These are to treat a strep throat infection and a UTI.

The penicillin says to take on an empty stomach

The Co amoxiclav doesn't specify. But I think the Dr did mention to have it with food.

Does it make a big difference for the effectiveness of the medicine?

I've been in the Co amoxiclav for 2 full days now. I took mainly on an empty stomach as I haven't got much appetite atm. Didn't feel any upset stomach.

I've been on the Co amoxiclav AND penicillin together for only 1 day. All mainly taken on an empty stomach and so far not felt much in terms of upset stomach.

Can I carry on this way or are side effects likely develop?
