Context:

I have a green packet of whisper's sanitary pads and it expired this month and still more than half of the pads are not used. I noticed a few months ago that the pads will expire so I started using that and told my mom to do so but she didn't take it seriously. I have seen a news in which a girl passed away because she got an infection from using expired pads. I don't want me or my mom to get infected and not any other women to. My mom thinks that it isn't something to eat so the expiry date doesn't matter that's why she is giving this to another relative just because I refused to use it.

How should I dispose of these ? If I throw it in the dustbin my mom and dad both will get angry at me and i don't want a fight between them.

i dont want to use the harsh and non environment friendly products that are recommended in the laundry sub. but i really want clean clothes. i have been washing our clothes in 30 degrees with a home made(marseille soap based) detergent but literally none of my clothes are clean.
how can i get them clean?
recommendations for a washing machine also appreciated since my machine just broke and i will buy a new one this time(only bought second hand in the past but i really want a good one now)

I’m cleaning out my pantry cabinet which literally has never been done in the 10 years we’ve lived here. There’s SO much expired food and I know I can’t donate it, but there’s got to be some use for it somewhere.

I’ve got dried goods like pasta, powdered gravy and dressing packets, boxes of soup, and boxed stuffing. I also have a lot of canned goods but I’m not having as hard a time throwing those away since I do think the liquid has probably changed over the years. But the dried goods are breaking my heart.

I also have about 2 trash bags full of grocery/produce bags, I did reach out to a local food pantry because I’d heard that they accept plastic bag donations but I haven’t heard back yet.

I have to clean these cabinets for my own mental health, my therapist said to just throw it all away and let myself start fresh just this one time (the whole reason I have all this food/plastic bags is because anytime anyone else is throwing it away I take it, and I hoarded the bags because I feel guilty putting them in the trash). I got everything out of the cabinet but now I’m having a really hard time moving it all off my counters until I find a use for as much of it as I can.

Any suggestions would be amazing!

My mom has a ton of old bath and body works lotions and tonight she's decided to mix them with baking soda to turn them into a room deoderizer. She's mentioned that she's seen it done with baking soda and essential oils. But she just has a ton of leftover (and probably expired) lotion and since it still smells okay she's giving it a go.

Has anyone tried something like this before?

I am looking for a eco friendly hand santizer, but that is available in the UK. I have seen this one: Resurrection Rinse-Free Hand Mist - but cannot see the percentage of alcohol and I think it has to be above 60% to do anything!

I need antiperspirant not deodorant. That's the only product that helps and works for me.

Here in Canada we take the plastic from deodorant and antiperspirant so that's a plus but I would love to have a refillable container I can reuse!

I've somehow been receiving emails from Terra Cycle since 2012, and their CEO, Tom Szaky, is trying to run a profitable recycling company. Since the chips are stacked against plastics recycling being profitable, I don't doubt but that this company has accepted all manner of terrible choices in order to work and grow in this environment.

Today, as they send me emails inviting me to invest in their continued growth (and "get dividends"), I'm not sure whether to support them or not, either ideologically or fiscally. What would be the moral basis be for investing in a recycling company that can only be profitable due to volunteers collecting and sending in waste that we don't force big business to own from a "cradle to grave" standpoint.

At some point we need to acknowledge that it can't just be volunteers and voluntary goodness pushing in the opposite direction against a system that makes it cheaper to make new plastic than to recycle existing materials.

How else does TerraCycle stay in business?

it says on their website that they’re made from recycled cotton but these are hard and plastic-feeling, very “stiff” and wirey. the pieces that shed off look like pieces of the netting that holds cuties or avocados. NOT sustainable if that’s the case. extremely disappointed. anyone have any advice on this? I bought two packs and will return them but worried about them being tossed out instead of resold or reused. idk what to do. feeling so burnt out that everything I try has a greenwashing problem. thanks

Thrifted these faux leather boots quite a few years ago and they’ve served me well! Today, one of the heels gave out on my way home from work. Is this something I should take to a cobbler/shoe repair? Can I fix it myself with a specific glue? Is it past fixing? What is the most sustainable and cost-effective option?

I recently got a dehumidifier and am struggling every time I dump the collected water down the drain. What are things I can use the water for? And what vessel can I use to store the water?

To add: I don't have indoor plants and now that it's fall, my outdoor plants are not in need of the water.

I'm asking this question because I have old polyester socks, old underwear, stained clothing, and clothing scraps. A lot of these are made from fully synthetic materials or partially synthetic materials. I can't sell or donate any of that. I do not know how to sew. I already have rags and old towels. I've thought about buying a few bags from clothing recycling services, but I'm not sure if the clothes will get recycled or not. I know some folks find creative ways to upcycle polyester clothing, such as for art projects. I know some folks sew and use scraps & old clothes to stuff things. I'm in the U.S and happy to ship things to folks in the U.S and Canada. I’ve been considering purchasing some wheat straw cups/plates for when I have people over (less likely to break than our ‘good’ plates).

I was under the impression they were better than plastic plates but they all seem to include plastic??

Are they even any better or is it just a bit of a con?

I have some pants that are a pretty sturdy material but I can't get them half way past my thighs anymore. I recently started an herb garden on my balcony, so if anyone has any creative ideas that would be amazing! They're just some old black slacks. im looking to venture back into the world of low waste deodorant options, and Wild roll-on seems to be a good option.

im a 19 year old woman, i live in Australia so it is hot and humid, i work a physical job and i tend to notice i smell in my work shirts no matter the deodorant. also, i feel like deodorant stops working after about 2 months and i’ll need to swap between formulas and brands for it to still work.

could i have some recommendations please?
