Texas basically refused to process over 500,000 valid voter registrations

u/Bulky-Internal8579 16h ago
This is the kind of anti-democratic stuff that renders elections invalid. It's infuriating that the pedo party whines endlessly about nonexistent voter fraud while they criminally disenfranchise voters and commit election fraud.

I hate that response. Let's say it's true and "both sides cheat", why not be better? It's maddening
3
u/hamandjam 11h ago
Also: if they BOTH cheat, then let's arrest BOTH of them. I'm perfectly fine with having people from both sides arrested.

having good excuse to declare an election invalid is the entire point, unfortunately.

5
u/ManiaGamine 7h ago
Yeah, the problem is... there is no such thing as "renders elections invalid" in America, there probably should be given how much fuckery the right engages in with elections, but at the same time... you don't want to give them that power or they'd simply abuse it as they've already tried repeatedly to do.

u/Bulky-Internal8579 2h ago
We need to stop playing by rules that the other side refuses to recognize in order to get things back on track and make the country a better place.

I renewed my license in June and was asked if I wanted to register to vote, so I said yes.
Nothing. No voter registration card, no letter, nothing.
So I did what you have to do in Texas…I physically printed out the paperwork and mailed it in.
Still nothing.
I looked it up online and it turns out I am registered to vote now, but they never let me know that.
It shouldn’t be this hard to vote.
69
u/Hornpipe_Jones 16h ago
We need automatic voter registration. Like the rest of the developed world.
15
u/cheddar_floof 15h ago
I’m in a similar situation. Changed addresses in the same city. Registration shows up as ‘suspense’. Updated everything online and sent a paper form as well.

u/treitter 11h ago
California emailed me weeks before sending my ballot, emailed me when it was posted, and emailed me when it arrived. They also emailed me when I updated my registration.
We just need to tally our results a lot faster...

Voting rights groups are demanding answers.
Okaay.....it ain't fucking rocket chess folks....
They are stealing people's right to vote.
They are manipulating the election.
They are outright cheating to win.
They are fucking us.
That's the answer. Regardless of whatever pseudo legalese word salad is used to "explain" it...That's it. That's all.
Oh...and by the way....it's only going to get worse.
Buckle up.

I wonder what Americans would do if Republicans steal the elections by invalidating ballots. How are they going to cope with it?
69
u/Hornpipe_Jones 16h ago
Judging from past history, they'll probably do a stretch of retail therapy, then completely forget by the time the next big story happens.
It's kind of wild how in all this midterm stuff, I've yet to hear anyone talk about how DOGE physically dragged employees from their desks and locked them out of their buildings. Hell, you really only ever hear passing mentions anymore about ICE executing people in the street.
3
u/GazelleOpposite1436 9h ago
It's a symptom of their 'shock and awe' tactics. There's just so much all the time, that people become numb to it all.
5
u/Rezistik 15h ago
Given how much of the worst parts of the big beautiful bill starts right after the mid terms it would be an awful idea for them to steal the election. The electorate is going to blame whoever is in office and it could get bad
1
u/hamandjam 11h ago
But this is why they do time bomb legislature. They get to pass the blame to the next guy or reverse the law. The Trump/Ryan tax bill had a huge time bomb where the cuts for non-wealthy people expired but those for the wealthy didn't. People notice their take home pay goes down and they only look at who's currently in the White House. They don't bother to notice that Trump and Ryan raised their taxes.

“Where a government has come into power through some form of popular vote, fraudulent or not, and maintains at least an appearance of constitutional legality, the guerrilla outbreak cannot be promoted, since the possibilities of peaceful struggle have not yet been exhausted.”
-Che Guevara, Guerrilla warfare, Pg. 8
It’s probably the worst part about liberal democracy, it converts our will for change and dissatisfaction with the government into voting on which person gets to misrepresent us in office. Unless he stops someone from taking office after the election has been called in their favor(which is a possibility), I don’t think too much will happen unfortunately.

Then vote for whoever you want on the ballot.
Hard to gerrymander or play games with the registration if all they see is one team.

We don’t register with a party. We are only affiliated with the party that we choose during the primaries for the remainder of that year.
22
u/--slurpy-- 16h ago
I'm in a state that doesn't do this. In our primaries we can only vote in one party's choices down the entire ticket.
What does registering as one party or the other accomplish? Do you only get republican ballots?
37
u/V0T0N 16h ago
I started googling, and I usually ignore what Gemini wants to tell me, but talking about voting and Texas just made Gemini give me links to TX gov websites.
And I tried AI mode and specifically asked it to explain it to me and it would not. It would only give me websites. No anecdotal information or AI-ness
That alone is suspect to me.
11
3
u/uber9haus 14h ago
I thought it was weird too so I asked it to explain. Seems like it may not be nefarious by Google but more of a wtf for Texas being a bunch of corrupt fucks.
“The difference in my responses comes down to how my safety and accuracy filters are triggered by specific state policies:
Texas has high-profile, frequently changing legal battles: In recent years, Texas has passed complex voting legislation (like SB 1) that faces ongoing lawsuits, court injunctions, and strict, specific ID requirements. Because the rules in Texas change rapidly due to court fights, my system's "civic integrity" filters are highly sensitive. It often defaults to a generic restriction to avoid accidentally giving you an outdated rule that could impact your ability to vote.
California has more static, expansive voting laws: California's voting system relies heavily on universal mail-in ballots and automatic voter registration, laws that have been stable and uniform for several election cycles. Because there is less active legal volatility surrounding the basic mechanics of how to vote in California, my safety filters are less likely to flag a search for California voting as a "high-risk, rapidly changing" topic.”8
u/LiluLay 16h ago
In my state we can choose to be unaffiliated and pick whichever ballot we want during primaries. Not sure how it works in TX.
2
u/--slurpy-- 16h ago
Does it make any difference in a general election?
7
u/LiluLay 16h ago
Of course not. We all get the same ballot on Election Day, as all states should be providing.
1
u/--slurpy-- 15h ago
How protected is this data? Who else can see what party a person is registered for? Or is this public knowledge?
2
u/LiluLay 15h ago
In North Carolina, party registration is public. It also shows which party’s primary ballot you select.
You may want to familiarize yourself with your own state’s Board of Elections website.
1
u/--slurpy-- 15h ago
I'm very familiar with my state's open primaries.
I was just asking about the process in other states out of curiosity.
1
1
u/brobafett1980 14h ago
It becomes public record which primary you voted in (but not your selections), which also "registers" you as that particular party for that election cycle. Everyone within a district has the same ballot and can vote for whomever they want. There are no limits or party restrictions when it comes to the general ballot.
1
u/--slurpy-- 15h ago
This whole conversation is pointless, Texas has open primaries so they dont register one way or the other, just like my state.
1
u/LiluLay 14h ago
So they’ll just reach into areas that tend to vote Democrat and start ripping away at their guts.
0
u/--slurpy-- 14h ago
That doesnt make much sense. Closed primaries sound like a tool to gerrymander.
1
u/LiluLay 14h ago
I’m not sure what my comment has to do with closed primaries?
You’re asking if affiliation is public, then saying it’s irrelevant because Texas doesn’t affiliate. So the GOP is going into areas that historically vote blue and disenfranchising the voters residing in those areas. I bet anything these application failures referenced in the OP are voters with blue zip codes or who applied in blue zip codes. They’ve also drastically reduced polling places in historically blue counties. There’s a hundred ways to fuck a rat when you’re Republican.
7
u/nangadef 16h ago
Party registration only matters in the primaries, not the general election in November
3
2
u/HoldMyDomeFoam 15h ago
There is no party registration in Texas.
For the primaries you have to pick a party ballot at the polling location and then you can only vote for that party’s ballot if there are primary runoff elections.
The process repeats the next primary election and you can once again choose which party’s primary to vote in.
1
u/slagwa 16h ago
They might very well then decide to prosecute you for "voter fraud"...
3
u/kombitcha420 15h ago
Nobody can see who you voted for, just what you register as
You can vote for whatever party you want despite your registration except for in a primary.
So no, they won’t lol. Stop being so scared and look into the process and what you can do and stop trying to scare others. That’s probably not your intention, but you’re spreading misinformation and fear.
3
u/NorseYeti 15h ago
In Texas, we don’t register by party. We simply register, and then you vote in a primary, which locks you in for that year, so you can’t vote in the opposing party primary as well. Then in General, you just vote for whoever you want on the ballot.
1
u/slagwa 15h ago
The suggestion that one needs to register as a Republican in order for your application to get processed should be troubling in its own right. If true. Maybe thats the point, so to claim "voter fraud" since there is no way all these registered Republican voters voted blue.
And lets be honest, at this point its not to far-fetched to think that they wouldnt make such threats, let alone put systems in place to make this happen.
1
u/kombitcha420 14h ago
Fair enough! I just hate to see any fear mongering or anything that may discourage others to exercise their rights
1
u/DanfromCalgary 15h ago
Why would you need to register as a party ? Isn’t that what the vote is for
2
u/General_Trainwreck 15h ago
So that you can only vote for your party in the primaries to decide who makes it to the ballot in the general election in Nov
1
u/DanfromCalgary 15h ago
Oh.. if they can just trash 500,000 voter registrations in Democrat areas . There can be no election
2
u/General_Trainwreck 15h ago
Not a fair one, no. The blue areas of Texas (like many states) are in population centers Austin, Dallas, north Houston - which is a huge area, and constantly gets fucked by the state by reducing voting locations to make it impossible for that amount of blue voters to actually vote. Texas also has some of the most gerrymandered districts in the nation.

1
u/hamandjam 13h ago
Texas doesn't do party registrations. We have open primaries so as long as you're registered in time you can vote in either parties primary.
22
u/MC_Fap_Commander 16h ago
I believe polling that shows Talarico and others in Texas with a lead is valid. I also believe the GOP thinks it's close enough that a few light (and not so light) suppression tactics will be enough to steal the election. Unless the lead is greater than +5, I am extremely dubious about a Texas flip. The good news is that the same polling suggests that a greater than +5 result is actually possible. So I'm not completely out on Texas... yet.

My daughter and neighbors daughter turned 18 last year. Both checked the box on their license renewal for voter registration. Daughter tried to vote in the election a few months later only to find the DPS hadn’t sent over the voter info. My neighbor hand delivered their physical application to the registrar office shortly after to make sure it didn’t get “lost” in the postal system as well. Finally got both of them registered.
I sent a note to the local news station last October detailing the situation and questioning if this might be an effort to suppress young voters votes for the mid terms. It was dutifully ignored.
4
u/hamandjam 13h ago
The thing is, this isn't a new situation. It's been a problem ever since the motor voter law passed. DPS has always done a shit job of passing on the registrations. They generate a form instead of doing it electronically and the forms have a habit of never getting submitted to the county registrar.
18
u/TeeManyMartoonies 16h ago
This has been ongoing, I believe. I used to do elections comms for a county in Texas and I’m pretty sure we were having issues with DPS forwarding the information before now.
Greg Abbott would be able to fix it—but he never has.

2
u/hamandjam 11h ago
Been an issue since Motor Voter was passed. People think this registers them electronically, but it just generates a form and DPS just doesn't give a shot about making sure they get submitted on time. I've always told people to not trust the DPS(or any service or website that claims to register you electronically)and register via a regular registration card.

Oh and yesterday, the registration site was mysteriously down again on the last day to register online.

This happened to me in 2004 in Nevada. I was part of a massive lawsuit because a republican organization was going onto college campuses and registering people to vote and was throwing away all the Democrat registrations. I found out because I went to vote later that year and was denied a vote because my registration wasn’t submitted. I claim that I had filled it out at college and they allowed me to vote on a provisional ballot that was going to be allowed or disallowed based on the lawsuit. I was 18 at the time and it seemed to me like Bush won pretty handedly so I never followed up on the lawsuit or whether or not my vote was counted but this kind of bullshit has been happening for a long time and I’m sure it happens on both sides. Not gonna lie it persuaded me from actually voting in the next few elections. I lost a lot of faith in the Democratic process because of that.
11
u/Gwendolyn-NB 15h ago
Really, you're going to both sides this when you said it yourself that 1 side did you wrong?
To quote Gina Davis/Charlie - "Were you always this stupid, or did you take lessons?"
-3
u/wldrbt 13h ago
I'm the guy whose registration got trashed in 2004 by a firm the RNC hired. I've been a Democrat my whole life, from a Democrat family in the Deep South that lost countless friends and got pushed out of churches for standing up to our beliefs. I don't need you explaining which side screwed me.
But if you'd spent two minutes looking it up before calling me stupid, you'd know this stuff happens on both sides. ACORN workers got convicted for fake registrations in 2008. A Democratic-aligned canvasser in Virginia pleaded guilty in 2016. Paterson, NJ had a whole 2020 election thrown out over mail-ballot fraud by local Democrats. And yes, Republicans too: Sproul & Associates in 2004 and again in 2012, and NC-9 in 2018 where a GOP operative's fraud got a congressional race tossed.
Saying that isn't defending Republicans. It's just not lying to myself about my own side. If your whole worldview breaks the second someone admits that, the simple one here isn't me. Honestly, I hope you're a bot. Calling someone an idiot for stating something that's easy to verify is about the most boring, simplistic move there is. If you're a real person, that's a lot more depressing2
u/Gwendolyn-NB 13h ago
Wow, testy? Obviously struck a nerve here. Interesting reaction...
And yes, im calling you stupid. Because you're both-sidesing this shit when one side is obviously 1000000x worse than the other.
0
u/wldrbt 13h ago
It's funny, because we obviously agree. I've voted against Republicans my whole life and my family paid a real price for it. You can think one side is way worse and still admit the other isn't perfect.
This holier-than-thou purity testing is exactly what makes people stop engaging in politics at all. Which is why I keep wondering if you're a bot. Why are you working so hard to sow division on your own side?1
u/Gwendolyn-NB 13h ago
I have not said that the Dems arent faultless, nor am I saying anything about a purity test; thats all you projecting your own shit.
And I think you're generally right on both sides having some faults; but 99.9999999% of the time when people both-sides shit (like youre doing!) Its equating 2 completely different levels of horse-shit/horrible news.
Its the same false-equilavency thats been being pulled for decades.... let's put these two very different things next to each other and them we can claim they're similar enough so we should give equal weighting to "both sides"... yea sure youre HS dropout who took 3 times to pass the GED should be weighed the same as Neil Degrass Tyson when talking about expolanets or weighed the same a Fauci on the methods of operation and effectiveness of mRNA medicines.
Its not even the same fucking ballpark, yet we "well both sides..." but both sides are not even fucking close to the same on most issues/topics.

Go touch some grass.3
u/EnsignMJS 15h ago
What happened to the people that threw away the registrations? How did the state react?
3
u/wldrbt 13h ago
Had to do a little digging since I never followed up on it back then.
The group was Sproul & Associates, a Phoenix firm run by Nathan Sproul, a former executive director of the Arizona GOP. The RNC paid him nearly $8 million in 2004 to run voter registration drives. In Nevada they operated as Voters Outreach of America.
What happened: canvassers reportedly asked people who they were voting for, and if they leaned Democratic, their forms got ignored or thrown out. A former employee pulled Democratic registrations out of his supervisor's trash and turned them over in a lawsuit. Oregon's attorney general opened a criminal investigation into the same firm, and the FBI looked into it too.
The outcome: the Nevada Democratic Party sued, but the judge refused to reopen registration and told individual voters to file their own lawsuits. Nobody was ever charged.
How many voters were affected: nobody ever nailed down an exact number. County records showed the group took out about 4,500 blank forms and turned in roughly 1,950 Republican registrations and only 319 Democratic ones. That leaves around 2,200 forms unaccounted for, though not all of them were necessarily filled out. The former employee claimed hundreds, if not thousands, of Democratic forms were trashed.
So it pretty much went nowhere, which is how I ended up voting on a provisional ballot.
