Had a new built engine ready to go. Old engine was literally a boat anchor. It ran and worked fine but was common and thus very inexpensive. No one would pay me anything for it. I could only get scrap value.
They commonly blew up at ~450 HP, about 8-10 lbs of boost.
It was time for the new engine. "Hey let's see how long this thing lives at 15 psi"
Till about 4200 RPM on the first pull was the answer as it shot the rods out the side of the block. Party.
And tada, the scrap value engine was still worth only scrap value because they don't care there's a giant hole in the block.
On the new engine that was ~680 ft lbs of torque at the wheels at 4200 RPM. Yeah no wonder the little wimpy rods left the chat.
Sometimes it just doesn't matter and you can make a silly video out of it.

They planned to put a more powerful engine in their car, which was ready to go but not yet installed. The old engine wasn't worth much but still ran.

The original engine was known to break if you added too much power via a turbo or supercharger.

Before installing the new engine, they intentionally set the old one to run with more power than it could handle. A lot more. For funsies.

The old engine lasted for a couple of seconds the first time it was pushed hard, before failing catastrophically. Now the new motor gets to go in.

Old engine was going to be melted down anyway, so the ~$20 it was worth before didn't change.

With the same setup, the new motor made ~50% more power than the known limit of the old one, i.e. not at all surprising that it blew up immediately.
This is not a 1000+ hp drag car or competition diesel and passenger cars have steel tubs... Barring some freak accident, this is borderline impossible.
Sure ya have. Lotta dead folks with clutch bearing lodged in their ribs just outside the Chevy dealership, right?
Or... Oh... A piece or two was found in the passenger cabin and nobody got hurt because the steel belly pan shed enough velocity to make the pieces harmless?
Ouch, that'll hurt your fear mongering bullshit...
Oh yeah, because every single person who leaves a Chevy dealership floors it and power shifts after putting turbos on there at the service department… stfu again dude holy crap
Nobody got hurt in the couple occasions that I’ve seen either because they were wearing a race suit or because they got lucky.
I really hope you don’t believe me and that you have the means to put too much horsepower into a shitbox and powershift it to hell, because I sure as shit know you have the brains for that kind of activity. I humanity as a whole is lucky, then you’ll find out…
Comparing a car that brand new costs less than the average car price to a BMW or Porsche is certainly a take. They are dirt cheap to maintain and repair. It's an underpowered japanese 4cylinder engine.
I was doing a drift ride along once, near the end of the run there was a pop, a plume of smoke from under the hood, and no power. As it turns out one of the connecting rods wanted out of the block. The owner, didn’t seem too upset, I asked why, he responded “yeah I’ve got a built SR20 waiting to go in” meaning that he had a spare motor for his 240sx
Blowing shit up is kinda part of the hobby. I'm pushing 450 wheel on a stock mercedes 7 speed just cause it works for now. When it starts having trouble I'll just start making plans to buy an upgraded one.
I feel like the keeping the gas pedal down while trying to jam into another gear is what did it. I’ve never heard of “power shifting” before this thread, but it seems like the fastest way to fuck up a car!
Then can you imagine, for a moment, that what the guy in this video is doing would seem idiotic to someone who *can't hurl around a thousand dollars like it's nothing?
What does "like it's nothing" even mean? I'm sure he works for his money like anyone else and with a tune/setup like he has going he planned for stock transmission failure. I was making 7.25 an hour when I was 19 and still put a turbo and fuel system on my car.
The amount of people in this fucking comment section that have never opened the hood of their own car is pathetic.
They could all pop the hoods and not know what they are looking at. You could tell them the ac compressor is the carburetor and they would go "Ah yes."

He knows he's pushing too much horsepower to the stock trans. He probably has a new one sitting in the garage.
