That is not a money shift. Money shift is putting it in a lower gear instead of higher while accelerating

Why would you shift down while accelerating? What’s the logic?

Let's say you are cruising on the 4th gear on low rpm, if you want to overtake and want quick acceleration you should be dropping a gear and accelerating which gives you higher rpm and more speed instantly as opposed trying to increase rpm in 4th gear which would take a few seconds to increase the speed.

But if you are already at high enough rpm and if you drop a gear, you would go past the redline and break everything. That's a money shift.

Well, if you hit max RPM and you want to continue to go faster you have to upshift so you're correct in that situation you would not want to downshift.

However what happens is that people make mistakes in the heat of the moment or because they're used to actively moving the shifter into each gear rather than allowing the shifter to handle lateral (left and right) movements. Shifting from 3rd gear into 4th typically requires pulling the stick straight back (stick is in 3rd > clutch in > pull stick out of 3rd > continue pulling the stick into 4th > release clutch pedal.

The problem is that sometimes people don't have the right technique or they're shifting in extreme conditions so accidentally pull the stick out of 3rd and then towards themselves... which results in you ending up overdriving the hell out of 2nd.
