It doesn't look like much, but for our final project we had to write all the code to create this raytraced scene of parametric spheres and a polygonal cube. We programmed it in Matlab, which had an interpreted language that made matrix calculations easy to perform but cost dearly in terms of performance - took at least an hour to generate this low-res image on the Pentium II systems in the lab.

Opening sequence used in Globo's coverage of the 1989 presidential elections in Brazil.

This election was historic because it was the first time in 29 years that brazilians returned to the polls to choose a president after 21 years of military rule and another 4 years of an indirectly elected civilian government.

To date, this was the election with the most presidential candidates, 22 names. The first round was on November 15th, and the second on December 17th. Fernando Collor was elected president with 53.03% of the votes (35 million), against 46.97% (31 million) for Lula da Silva
