Collections A small collection.

Hi all,

As many of you, I too have a love for these Swiss Army knives. After a recent trip to Germany and Switzerland, I treated myself to a Minichamp Alox, which triggered some more SAK shopping... I couldn't help it.

So, my collection thusfar:

* Dual knife sharpener (the honing stone is great for what it is; would recommend)

* Classic SD (this knife started it all! I got this one as a gift from my father he brought home after a business trip to Switzerland more than 20 years ago)

* MiniChamp Alox

* Spartan

* Camper

* Companion

* Pioneer X Alox Limited Edition 2026

At the moment the MiniChamp Alox is my EDC in my work bag. For my car, I either carry the Camper or the Companion. I switch them every once in a while. Although, I do gravitate more towards the Companion. The scissors are more useful to me than the saw is on the Camper.

Let me know what you guys think and what other SAKs I should consider. Currently, I am quite interested in the Wine Master Olive. I know one thing, there are many more to come!

Campingmesser win

Finally acquired a Campingmesser / Outdoorsman, I wasn't quite sure it was savable given the missing scissor arm, bent corkscrew and heavy corrosion. A few days soaking in heated mineral oil seems to have some the trick, along with the standard corkscrew straightening trick. I was lucky enough to have a donor scissor arm with the correct screw and pivot available as well as a replacement old style spring.

I have a set of period correct Elinox shield scales to install on it but am just holding off until I decide if I should send it in for replacement liners.

Just excited to share an unusual model.

Wenger & Caran d’Ache silver plated set. I got on EBay for $51. Pen was in plastic sleeve while the knife has a little tarnish.

Basicamente um explorer com alicates.

Ainda não é o projeto final. Quero adicionar uma combo tool, com isso ganho uma camada livre e adiciono a Lima de ferro.

What do I have here?

I just got my 2nd "swisstool plus Ratchet", but the spirit it came with is one I haven't seen before and I couldn't find it on their site for sale.

The knife blade is a whale head serrated with all the rest of the tools the same as my other spirit

Sorry for the shadows in the picture hopefully someone will recognize it. For $55 I feel like I got a good deal.

Problem with my knife

Post image

It's been more than a year since the red plastic part began to have this gap. Some month ago it began to move and one time felt appart from the chassis of the knife, now it frequently leave the knife. (btw the photo is 2 month old). I've already contacted the client service of victorinox and some different shops around me including the one where I bought it in november 2021.

Anyone else have this happen?

I pulled out the nail file and noticed only half came out! I carry this in my back pocket wrapped in a handkerchief. Wondering if any else had this happen, thinking maybe I sat on it and broke the file inside the case?

SAK Cadet issue

2 Upvotes

My Victorinox Cadet Alox has a random gritty, scraping sound when opening the main blade. It doesn’t happen every time, but occasionally I can feel a slight gritty sensation as the blade opens. The knife is about four years old and hasn’t seen much use. The issue was present before cleaning, so I’ve washed it twice with soap and water, applied KPL lubricant to all accessible areas, and wiped off the excess, but the problem persists.

Any ideas? Or is it something normal for the alox models?

I've got this Wenger model that I am trying to clean. I've washed with soapy water and a toothbrush and a small cheap ultrasonic cleaner but I still have this white stuff. Tools don't move easy even after oiling so Im wondering if this stuff is hindering it a bit

Victorinox Mini Champ Alox Nail Nicks

I have very short fingernails, and they’re not super “tough” and I have a challenging time with most SAK nail nicks. How do these fare? I’d like one for EDC/pocket…but it might be a waste of money for me.

Thoughts?

help Best way to clean an SAk you bought used?

I was thinking brake clean or my acetone sprayer (hadn't seen if the OEM plastic is resistant yet) and then light oil.

These are TSA confiscated buys from an eBay seller I had seen mentioned throughout comments here and there.

They are both in perfect shape, just lots of debris.

This is my Champion C. It’s near mint aside from a few scratches on the scales. It’s got the old grooved Corkscrew and even has the aluminum tweezers. It’s a beauty!

Made as a custom request for a local SAK enthusiast, plier could be reinstalled if desired later, or a Surge head could be modified to fit.

Current production Cadet with the scissor layer from an 84mm golfer, my first attempt with my new orbital riveting tool. I've ordered a slightly larger die to produce better looking rivet head.

Evoke owners: Do you have a gap between the scales and body of the knife?

1 Upvotes

I just got an Evoke yesterday (I’ve wanted one for a long time), but noticed there is a visible gap between the scales and the body of the knife — to the extent that I can see light through the gap all along the length of the knife if I hold it up. Is that normal? It seems like it’d be impossible to clean, given that the scales are riveted on.

Identification Bantam alox colours

Post image
85 Upvotes

I was searching for different colours of alox bantams and this image was on the sakwiki page. I'm most interested in the cyan/blue-ish colour second from the left and the, what I suppose would be, a lavender one. But I could not find ANY info on these versions. Are the swiss bianco? Dlt trading exclusive?

I tried searching all different colour names but they mostly came back as the classic sd variants or pioneer etc. But not bantam. I only found a picture/videos of a tropical turquoise bantam from swiss bianco from about a decade ago

Do you guys have any info on these ones? I'm guessing they're very rare and probably out of my price range because of that lol. But I'd still love to know more about them! And if you own these ones or any other cool coloured alox bantams, please show me!

Just an idea. I’m sure there are better mods.
But it’s easy to install/remove and perfect when you have cold hands or gloves on

Rambler vs Mini Champ Alox

26 Upvotes

I’ve been using the Rambler as my EDC for quite some time now, and I’m extremely satisfied with it. As is the consensus around here, it has all the tools you need and none you don’t.

But a good deal on Amazon came up, and I couldn’t resist the temptation, so I pulled the trigger on the Mini Champ Alox. Honestly, the toolset wasn’t particularly compelling to me; I was drawn to it purely for the aesthetics.

A couple of weeks in, I must say that some tools have become pretty much essential to me, like the coke spoon (I’m using it as a pry tool more often than I ever thought I would) and the orange peeler (I used it as a hook twice, it worked like a charm). I even tried to peel an orange with it, and it works, but let’s be honest: any kind of knife is better for this ;).

Last but not least, the look and feel of that little mf are in another league compared with the Rambler.

As much as I loved the Rambler (and still do), the Mini Champ is my main carry from now on, with the Rambler as a backup.

Now I’m waiting for a similar deal on the Companion S Alox for traveling purpose and to complete my 58 collection.
