Genealogy - Royals & Nobility Mainland Southeast Asian Royal Family Tree

Post image
125 Upvotes

Disclaimer

  1. This chart focuses on major ruling dynasties and key lineages across mainland Southeast Asia (Burma/Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam); minor regional branches, short-lived fiefdoms, and non-ruling noble lines are omitted for clarity and space.
  2. Royal polygamy, intermarriage, and adoption were common in mainland Southeast Asian history; spouse lines and secondary consort connections are simplified to highlight primary successions and major inter-dynastic linkages.
  3. Names, titles, and dynasty designations are standardized or transliterated using common English historical conventions, which may differ across regional romanization systems.

QUESTION for the community A question

HeyHey BobbyHey there
The past year or so if being gathering info and building a chart and now Im in the final process of posting my chart video online YouTube. Its about 52 mins long. 2 questions: Are we allowed to post the video here also or…? And does anyone have any last minute tips? It covers about a millennia of monarchs history also deeply rooted in both mythical as historical battles (briefly mentioning them) while also covering briefly local myth and lore of a subject not yet covered…
Is 52 mins too long or? If I would shorten it much it wouldn’t do justice to the subject in my humble opinion. The advice I received was to cut it into 4 parts, making each about 10 to 12 mins long. Is that sound or?
Thanks in advance

Genealogy - Alt History What If...Tudors ... Anne and Catherine died of the Sweat in 1528

Post image
68 Upvotes

I'm rewatching the Tudors (again) and got the wheels turning.

Anne had caught the Sweat and nearly died, while Catherine was untouched, Henry had her travel to Ludlow to stay with their daughter. What if she'd contracted it for a second time? It's unknown if catching it once would help, but since it's most likely Catherine passed due to what was most likely Heart Cancer only 8 years later, and run down after 5-6 pregnancies, it's plausible if she had caught it, she might have not survived a second time.

So I compiled a list of the most likely 2nd (and hopefully last) wife. From most to least likely.
Also keep in mind that without the divorce, there would most likely not be a split with Rome during his lifetime.

Mary (Marie) of Guise -
Reasons for likelihood: Alliance with France. Old enough to marry (13, was legal for girls at the time) Reported beauty. Descendant of Louis IX.
Reasons against: Not many, aside from possibly not of high enough Rank for Henry.

Real History - She actually was a possible option for Henry in 1537.
Upon hearing of her great stature, he apparently said: "I need a large woman"
To which she rejected him with: "I may be a large woman, but I have a little neck."

Eleanor of Austria -
Reasons for likelihood: Reconciliation with the emperor. Proven fertility.
Reasons against: She was already 30, and not a ‘beauty’

Real History - She was already widowed by Manuel I of Portugal, and would go on to marry Francis I as his second wife. They had no children.

Eleanora d'Este -
Reasons for likelihood: Granddaughter of a pope, Reconciliation with the Church. (13, was legal for girls at the time)
Reasons against: Her mother was Lucrezia Borgia, who was already believed to have been a poisoner, and rumors of incest with her father and brother.

Real History - She joined religious orders, and became Abbess at 18.

Anne of Cleves -
Reasons for likelihood: Her father was great friends with Erasemus, whom Henry knew. Her father was a powerful duke in the empire. (13, was legal for girls at the time)
Reasons against: Her father John III of Cleves was skirting the lines of the Reformation.

Real History - Would go on to marry Henry VIII in 1540, but it would be annulled 6 months later. She would agree to the annulment and be treated as "the king's sister", above all ladies except any wife, and the daughters of the king. She remained friendly with all of Henry's children for the rest of her life.

Catherine de' Medici -
Reasons for likelihood: Niece of Pope Clement VII, Heir to Urbino, very wealthy.
Reasons against: She was only 9, and considered kind of ugly. Henry was also impatient and wouldn’t want to wait for her to come of age.

Real History - She'd live an extremely eventful life, even before becoming Queen of France. Surviving the deaths of multiple guardians and as captive of the Emperor's soldiers while hiding in several nunneries.
She'd marry Henry II of France and outlive all but one of her 10 children. (2 of her children survived her*)

This is all assuming he doesn't just marry a woman of his realm, like a much younger Jane Seymour (daughter of an old friend), or someone to that effect.

Elizabeth Blount was (very) briefly considered after Anne Boleyn's death as she'd been recently widowed, but in 1528 her husband was still alive. Also it was believed if he had married her, it would cause succession issues.

Thanks for taking a look, and hope you enjoyed my extrapolating thought!

Genealogy - Fictional van Helsing Family Tree

Post image
49 Upvotes

Abraham van Helsing is well known as a doctor of medicine and theology who was instrumental in thwarting the sinister plans of the vampire Count Dracula. Since then there have been countless fearless vampire hunters who have claimed descent from the man- sometimes quite dubiously. This genealogy is by no means exhaustive, but it should give some idea of just how much family history there is to sort through here.

First marriage

Dr. van Helsing was married at the time of his encounter with Dracula, as is alluded to in the diaries of Dr. John Seward. However, he and his wife were in a state of separation, with him describing her as 'dead to [him]'- implicitly, institutionalized following a mental breakdown after the death of her and Abraham's son. This does seem to suggest only the one son- in his wife's condition, it is unlikely they could have had other children, and he mentions that, being a Catholic, he considered divorcing her for another wife to be unacceptable. This leaves a lot of room for skepticism regarding his many supposed descendants; their existence is not precisely an impossibility, but it raises more than one pertinent question. It's certainly possible some vampire hunters (or vampire hoaxers, such as the crackpot Professor Abronsius and the washed-up actor Herbert McHoolihee) have falsely claimed descent from Abraham to bolster their credibility.

With regards to that first wife, there is little documentation, but one source (Kim Newman's Angels of Music) names her Saartje and suggests Abraham's claims of her insanity were greatly exaggerated; indeed, she is seen pursuing her own academic pursuits in Paris, and brushing off questions about her husband by claiming he is the insane one, trying to fill the terrible loss of his son with his cockamamie vampire hunting antics. Food for thought.

Lawrence's Branch:

Thanks to Charles Loridans and his essay "Children of the Night"

Lawrence himself is a somewhat mysterious figure. A Lawrence van Helsing is certainly known to have been active in London, 1872 (Dracula AD 1972), and yet someone matching his exact description, but carrying credentials identifying himself as "J. van Helsing," was doing the same work in 1885 in Cluj-Napoca (Horror of Dracula). It seems reasonable to conclude we're discussing one man with a penchant for changing his name; perhaps he was perpetrating some fort of identity fraud, and if that is the case, perhaps he is not a legitimate van Helsing at all (or at least, not from Abraham's branch). If the reports are to be believed, then this man was hunting Dracula through London even before the Count ever moved there, so fraud seems especially possible. Nevertheless, we followed this family line for completeness' sake.

  • Leyland, Lawrence's son, was with his father in Chongqing, China in 1904, and accompanied him on an expedition to the Sichuan countryside to investigate claims of vampire attacks (Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires)
  • Lorimar is known to have been living in London with his granddaughter Jessica in 1972, one hundred years after the events set in motion by his grandfather Lawrence (Dracula AD 1972)
  • Jessica is certainly known to have been Lorimar's granddaughter, but other details about his familial relations are murky. Scholars believe he likely had three sons- Matthew (Dracula 2000), Conrad, and Curt (Vampirella). Matthew went on to own an antique shop on the remains of Carfax Abbey as late as 2000; Conrad went blind and was the father of US Congressman Adam van Helsing; Curt died under mysterious circumstances and left daughter Jessica in Lormar's care. Those scholars also suggest Curt had two other daughters, Vanessa (Night Force) and Rachel (Tomb of Dracula, featuring Blade).
    • Documents later surfaced suggesting Rachel had different parentage, including mention of a father August, grandfather Jeremiah, great-grandmother Elisabeth, unknown but deceased brother, and even stepmother and stepbrother (Mrs. and Noah Tremayne).

Arthur's Branch

Abraham's sons Arthur and Richard van Helsing (or 'Hellsing,' as some sources suggest) were presumably the product of a later union. Perhaps Abraham finally got that divorce, or Saartje died, or something else happened that freed Abe up to pursue another marriage, or it's simply more identity fraud. Assuming it's not the latter,, Arthur himself evidently carried on his father's work, and at some point became a naturalized British citizen, even trading in his family's Catholic faith and converting to Anglicanism. He also founded the Hellsing Organization, a secret branch of the British government dedicated to national defense against the occult.

Apart from the distinct possibility that Arthur could be the progenitor of Jeremiah and August (but so could Richard, for that matter), the only confirmed child of his blood is Sir [sic] Integra Fairbrook Hellsing, through an unknown mother of believed Indian background. Arthur was apparently around 63 when Integra was born, and passed away when she was only 12. Integra went on to head the Hellsing Organization for some time afterwards.

Others of Unclear Connection

Numerous other van Helsings pop up throughout the historic record up to the present day, including an apparent brother/sister duo Saskia and Hans (who claimed to be Abraham's direct children), a Declan van Helsing who served in the US Army's Special Forces in a classified capacity, Nikolas van Helsing (a proctologist who apparently spent a lot of time in then-Burma), and Guillermo de la Cruz, a Panera employee from an apparent central American branch of the family. We decided not to look too much into this for the sake of our own sanity.

I have question: which tree format do you think is better? I like both for different reasons: the horizontal one seems easier to read, whereas the vertical one better conveys the "span" of the tree.

There which countries, families and monarchies should be to be fairly complete?

Thanks a lot for your time and attention.

Genealogy - Personal Family My Alleged Family Tree that somehow connects me to a Voievode of Moldavia and a Roman Princess.

Thumbnail

So uh- yea 😂

Kinda sudden, I know, but like, I recently managed to piece together a family tree based on the oral tradition passed down in my family, that somehow, SOMEWAY, we are connected to a Moldavian Voievode AND to a Roman Princess!

Those being Eudokia Porphyrogennete Komnene at the top, and Alexander III 'The Bad' of Moldavia.

Now, this could all be a made-up story by me or my relatives, so don't take it for granted as historical fact. Trust me, if I forged something like this, I would've made it either simpler or more complex. ANYWAYS, my family has a whole journal and all, that only the 'heads' of the household can study. Thankfully, my uncle was kind enough to tell me all about it and give me the book for a few hours to study it.

The thing is, the alphabet is still in Cyrilic, but the words are in Romanian, so at first, it was kinda hard to get used to reading it, but since I know Russian, it kinda helped 😄

I don't have the time to explain EVERY little connection and how the family discovered / knows about it all, all imma say is that for SURE, the info is verifiable after Mihail Benderschi and Estera.

You can ask me in the comments down below any questions u may have though, I will be happy to answer them.
