Website i made for learning turkish

I made a free Turkish-learning page as part of my multilingual language-learning website. It focuses on Turkish grammar, structure, vocabulary, and examples. I’d really appreciate feedback from Turkish learners or native speakers, especially if you notice any mistakes or have suggestions for making it easier to use.

👥 Language Partner Does anyone want to practice Turkish with me and be friends?

It's just what the title says. Does anyone want to practice Turkish me? If you're a native Turkish speaker or you're learning Turkish too and you want to be friends, let me know! I'm interested in music, language, culture, and things like that. We can talk about whatever you like. I'm from the US, and I'm really interested in learning Turkish! I have around an A2, maybe B1 level in Turkish. I love old Turkish music and stuff like that. I'd love to make new friends.

23M. I am entirely new to Turkish. I would like to just develop very basic conversational skills this week and perhaps next to talk to my barber a little bit in his home language. I am fluent in English and can offer English teaching/practice as well.

Grammar "Türk kahvesi" or "Türk kahve"? Noun compounds explanation

Since they confuse pretty much everyone, here is a quick explanation of how noun compounds work in Turkish.

"Kahve" means coffee, but in a menu you will find "Türk kahvesi". Why?

The -si in Türk kahvesi is basically the "its" ending (-sı/-si/-su/-sü, or just -ı/-i/-u/-ü after a consonant). Turkish puts it on the second noun when the first one tells you what kind of thing it is. So it's coffee of the Turkish kind, same as okul çantası (school bag) or otobüs durağı (bus stop).

The annoying part is that there are actually three ways to put two nouns together, and they look a lot alike:

  • Made of something: no ending at all. "tahta masa" (wooden table), "altın yüzük" (gold ring), d"eri ceket" (leather jacket).
  • A kind of something: -(s)I on the second noun. "mutfak masası" (kitchen table), "çocuk kitabı" (children's book), "doğum günü" (birthday).
  • Belongs to a specific someone or something: -(n)In on the first noun AND -(s)I on the second. "çocuğun kitabı "(the kid's book), "kapının anahtarı "(the key to the door), arabanın camı (the car window).

Take çocuk kitabı vs çocuğun kitabı: the first one is just a kids' book, it could be sitting in a bookshop. The second one belongs to one particular kid. (Don't forget the ketchup rule here for softening consonants.)

Beware: The -(s)I goes away when you add my/your/etc. A noun only takes one possessive ending, so "my school bag" is okul çantam, not okul çantasım.

That's also why happy birthday is Doğum günün kutlu olsun: gün + your = günün.

I hope that's helpful. Drop a comment if something isn't clear.

🤝 Seeking Advice Podcasts for Listening Practice

Hi all,
I am looking for podcasts or something to listen to to practice my listening comprehension. I started listening to Easy Turkish but even at 0.8x Speed I find it very hard to follow. Do you have other podcast / listening suggestions that I could train with? It would be nice if it was something on the go - like not a YouTube video for example.

Kelime Avı: Free Turkish Wordle with definitions 🎯

Merhaba everyone! 👋

I'm an indie developer from Turkey. Many learners have told me that one of the hardest parts of learning Turkish is expanding vocabulary and retaining new words in context.

To make daily vocabulary practice fun and effortless, I created Kelime Avı — a Turkish 5-letter word guessing game (Wordle-style) crafted specifically for both native speakers and Turkish learners.

🌟 Features tailored for learners:

  • 📖 Instant TDK Definitions: After guessing the word (or at the end of the round), you can see the official Turkish Language Association (TDK) definition with a single tap. It's a great way to actually learn the word and its meaning, not just guess it!
  • 📅 Daily 5-Letter Word + Archive: A fresh, handpicked 5-letter word every day with 6 attempts. Missed yesterday? You can revisit past words in the Archive.
  • ♾️ Unlimited Practice Mode: If one daily word isn't enough, you can switch to Practice Mode and play 5-letter puzzles endlessly at your own pace.
  • 💡 Helpful Hints: Letter reveal and keyboard letter elimination hints when you get stuck on tricky Turkish letter combinations (ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü).
  • 🎨 Clean & Accessible: Dark mode, high-contrast mode, and smooth performance.

The app is completely free to play on Google Play: 👉 Download on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunterapps.kelimeavi

I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback! If you try it out, please let me know what features or additions would make it even more helpful for your Turkish learning journey.

Kolay gelsin ve iyi oyunlar! 🎯🇹🇷

📚 Resources Why is Elon.io so popular in this sub?

Hey there! I’ve noticed that Elon Musk’s language learning platform is quite popular and often recommended in this subreddit. So, I decided to try it out for my Turkish language learning journey. I’m currently completing the beginner level, but I’ve encountered some issues in the first six courses.

I found some bugsthat seemed confusing. The entire content appeared to be quite AI-generated, which was a bit unsettling. The grammar sections are okay so far, and they might serve as a helpful guideline. However, the vocabulary trainer is quite disappointing in my opinion.

Firstly, the vocabulary selection is random. Secondly, I’ve noticed that some words have their first letter already filled in, which is quite disturbing. Lastly, the number of letters for the search vocabulary is displayed, which is helpful, but I believe a vocabulary trainer without this feature would be more effective.

Am I missing something important in the scores?

🤝 Seeking Advice Why am I still so bad at Turkish?

I've been trying to learn Turkish for four years and I've been watching so many videos, listening to songs, watching movies and series, taking notes, trying to learn new vocabulary, trying to learn new grammar concepts, but I feel like my level has just been like a plateau for the past few months and I'm still not at the level I want to be at. I feel like I'm stuck at an A2-B1 level.

Is there anyone who can help me practice, how can I improve, I want to reach a native or near native level? I still don't understand everything I hear or see. I don't understand more advanced grammar concepts. I'm from the US and my native language is English. I feel like I'm not smart. I don't know what to do and I need help.

Grammar Command + bakalım

Driving with some friends, we slowed at a crosswalk where a boy on a scooter was intending to cross. With the window down, my friend motioned for him to cross and said Geç bakalım to the boy. Help me understand why this phrase was used? Other scenarios where this might be used? Thanks.

👥 Language Partner offering English Arabic and french seeking Turkish

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I’ve always been drawn to learning languages because of how deeply they connect us to human experiences we’d otherwise never reach. For me, picking up a new language isn’t just a study habit, it’s genuinely one of my favorite things in the world. Lately, I’ve fallen in love with Turkish culture, from its classic literature and artistic side to its daily slice-of-life moments, science, and the quiet beauty of everyday human connections.

I’m fluent in French, English, and Arabic, and I’d be really happy to help you practice any of those in exchange for helping me build my Turkish through warm, casual chats. If you’re looking for a genuine language exchange and someone to talk with about life, books, art, or just daily thoughts, feel free to send me a message or comment below. I’d love to connect.

👥 Language Partner Anyone else learning Turkish and wants a study buddy? 🇹🇷

Hey! I’m learning Turkish and I’m looking for someone who’s also learning it and wants to practice together.
I’m a beginner, and I feel like learning with another person would make it much easier and less boring 😭 We could practice chatting, help each other when we don’t understand something, share useful resources, and motivate each other to actually keep studying.
You don’t have to be a beginner either — I’d be happy to practice with someone at a different level too!
If you’re interested, let me know 😊

Locative Case (-DA) | Learn Turkish with Seda

I’ve updated a full lesson on the Turkish locative case (-de/-da) to my grammar section.

The locative case, bulunma hâli, is used to express where someone or something is:

evde → at home
okulda → at school
parkta → at the park

The lesson explains -de, -da, -te, -ta, vowel and consonant harmony, personal pronouns, and common uses with examples.

You can read the full lesson

📚 Resources I built a live-speaking practice module for Turkish learners

When I started learning Turkish, I struggled hard to speak in real-life conversations. I knew the words, but as soon as someone talked to me, my mind was frozen. What eventually helped was speaking out loud alone in my room, but I didn't have any useful feedback to progress (and it was a bit boring lol)

That's why I built my own speaking practice feature for TurkishFluent, an app to learn Turkish online. You can train in a live voice conversation with a virtual Turkish teacher that adapts to your level.

It doesn't interrupt you to correct every sentence, so you actually get to talk, about any topic you like. After each conversation you get a recap of your mistakes, the lessons in the app that cover them, and the new words you learned.

You can try it for free here.

It's brand new, so I'd really appreciate honest feedback: does the conversation feel natural, is the level right for you, and is the recap useful? Is there any bug?

Teşekkürler, I hope that's helpful for Turkish learners!

Do you want to learn Turkish while playing games?

If you’re learning Turkish, you already know the problem: you memorize a word, feel proud for 10 minutes, then forget it the second you need it in a sentence.

What actually stuck for me was guessing. Seeing a word, trying letters, getting it wrong, looking up the meaning, then bumping into it again later. So I made a Turkish Wordle for that.

It’s called WordTogether. The words and definitions come from the official Turkish Language Association (Türk Dil Kurumu / TDK) — so you’re practicing real dictionary Turkish, not random made-up letter soup. There’s a daily puzzle, endless mode if you want more, and rooms if you want to play with a friend who’s also learning — or a Turkish speaker who will absolutely roast your guesses.

A few things that help with studying:

Meanings are based on TDK entries, and you can check them after a round

Word lengths go from 4 to 8 letters, so you’re not stuck on the same 5-letter set forever

UI works in English or Turkish

I’m the developer, so I’m also fishing for honest feedback from people actually learning Turkish — what’s useful, what’s confusing, what you’d want next.

iOS: apps.apple.com/tr/app/wordtogether-birlikte-oyna/id6807909134

If you would like to become an early access tester for the upcoming Android version, you can get in touch via DM. Android: play.google.com/store/apps/details?…

If you try a couple of rounds, tell me how it feels as a learner. Especially if some words feel too obscure or too easy.
