Hated Tropes (Hated trope) Remember all these stories and characters we followed for so long? Welp now it’s all reset.

1: using another flashpoint to create the tomorrowverse (Justice League Dark: Apokolips war) after 80-90% of the cast is killed off and billions lives are fated to die Flash and Constantine hatch up a plan to kill baby Darkseid to prevent the entire story from happening which just leads to an entirely different universe being formed and even erasing some characters from existence.

2: Jim travelling to the beginning (Tales of Arcadia series) after multiple characters die including Toby Jim uses a magic gem to travel back to the very first episode but instead lets Toby find the amulet… this changes things how?

Maybe if the story took place in the new timeline and there was a prequel set in the old one that ends on a hopeful note.

I think Yo-Kai Watch did that at the end of the first game.

But it is also implied that the Yo-Kai and watch came back a little bit after the story ends, so…

There is an anime that is just now getting a season 2 called (iirc) "A Returner's Magic should be Special" that is exactly this. The group of heroes is all formed and the beginning of the story is them defeating the BBEG (huge dragon) and then as a last act of pettiness he basically explodes like a nuke and our MC comes to on the first day he was enrolling at the academy. He has a set amount of time to try and change things to make the future better but he's the only one and it starts from the reset so we're not attached to anybody yet.

I respectfully do not think this counts because it is the inciting incident, and the readers did not follow that first group long enough to get attached at that point. Those sort of things were told in flashbacks further down the road.

I'm not sure if this counts but the Mistborn series books 1-3 follow a group of rebel slaves overthrowing the empire. After basically all the main characters die, including the protagonist, their butler becomes God and fixes everything . Book 3 takes place several hundred years in the future mostly disconnected from the original series. Books 4-7 do a great job of developing the new characters and there's enough reference/fan service to the first three books that the events in the first 3 books seem like they actually mattered, even though the story could have still worked without those call backs

Not really yes earth is destroyed but Shinra becomes a god and makes a new world as well as reviving everyone who died. He then creates Death to take everyone’s powers and watch over the world
