Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) "Kind" slave owners

Speaking as an American who has studied the civil war all throughout my school years, this trope infuriates me to no end. There is no such thing as a kind slave master because slavery itself is cruel and inhumane. PEOPLE ARE NOT PROPERTY!

Naofumi (Shield Hero): Prime example of this trope. He enslaves multiple (underage) girls and an whole village and the fans still say he's a hero.

Rudeus (Jobless Reincarnation): As if being a pedo wasn't bad enough he had to buy a slave in season 2. Worse is that people still defend his actions.

Song of The South (Disney): Possibly the OG example of this trope. And the reason why Disney will never release it again.

on the opposite spectrum there is John Brown Isekai, a story of abolitionist John Brown being transported to the world and his first response is to bash an adventurer with a rock and free the slave

Now this is what should be turned into an animation.

Not an Isieki, but this is basically just Luffy from One Piece.

I wish Luffy would bash people’s heads with rocks

Pretty sure he'd be dead immodestly since it's legal in that world meaning they committed murder and is wanted for it?

he is definitely a wanted man but he has built a community with the people and beast people he saves

Ok pretty sure his community would be dead in a couple of months if that the case.

they did fight a whole city block and a whole army on two separate occasions with nothing but sticks and stones and a couple Garands

Feels like another generic isekai with an OP MC

as far as I read, we’ve yet to know if he even has a reincarnation skill because all other otherworlders got got one but not him — all his accomplishments were from saving people and training people to fight

So you want wish fulfillment? I thought wish fulfillment is a bad thing

Why are you so against a story about John Brown killing slavers in another world? Kind of sus ngl

1

u/Fuzzy-Fisherman-7128 8d ago

It's cringe and a wish fulfillment I thought we hate that kind of stories?

Be consistent bro.

u/AlterKat 8d ago

Oh so you’re intellectually dishonest/wilfully obtuse. Got it

Or if I’m taking your comment seriously: wish-fulfilment related to righting a historical wrong is being treated as better than wish-fulfilment that involves participating in and benefiting from a historical wrong.

Why do you have a problem with that? Kind of sus, ngl.

Historical wrong? Bro slavery exist today. There's more slaves today than back then.

Back then slavery just existed, just like today. Wish fulfillment is wish fulfillment both are still slop.

Okay so you know that even when you kill someone, people still have to find, arrest, and then kill you all without escaping if they want you dead for that, right?

1

u/Fuzzy-Fisherman-7128 10d ago

Yeah and they'll have more troops and can higher stronger people to arrest you.

  1. hire

  2. Not necessarily. There are tons of people who have, throughout history, gotten away with everything from murder to assault to theft to property damage without so much as a dirty look from the cops. This would be true in fantasy worlds as well. No culture that creates or discovers a spell to track something down will simply allow themselves to be stalked by this kind of spell.

It's not common, no, it's not every single case, but no matter the crime you commit, there is a non-zero chance that you get away with it. There is, of course, a non-zero chance you get caught and punished, but that doesn't mean it's automatic. Far from it.
