Is it strange 8 episode seasons these days still feel like most of it is filler or a 2-hour movie stretched across 8 hours besides a few eps?
I finished watching Lanterns and this made me think even shows with only 8 episode seasons feel like they're bloated with filler. It's so weird because back in the day 22 episode seasons were ideal and we knew which were the isolated filler stories and which weren't, but it all added to the shows universe.
These days 8-episode seasons feel like plots for 2 hour movies that have to be stretched to 8 hours instead. So you have like 5+ hours in the middle or in various episodes where...nothing much is actually happening. Usually the characters go around in circles stating the obvious while whoever the antagonist is just does nothing till the final eps.
I feel exactly the same watching the last season of The Boys, Peacemaker Season 2, most Marvel TV shows, or even Strange New Worlds (Star trek) which is sad. Even Stranger Things seasons felt like this toward the end.
I honestly can't remember what the last well paced 8 episode season show I watched was where every episode was enjoyable.

TV shows with an unaired/unofficial pilot where youâre glad they changed the cast or tone of the show?
I remember a few years ago, I watched the unaired pilot for The Big Bang Theory, which had a different Penny (different actress, different name and I think she was an actual slut?). The guys felt a bit creepier than the sweet awkward nerds we had in the official series and the overall tone felt more mature and sexual.
A few minutes ago, Youtube recommended me the unaired pilot for Big Time Rush. It wasn't my favorite show but honestly I think it was funny for Nickelodeon in those days; and in that pilot you can clearly see how recasting the lead actor (Kendall) might have completely changed the band's dynamic, and why adding a caring, protective mom for a group of boys was so important. -Here's the link in case you're interested: https://youtu.be/HxUYJ0wAcKA
What unaired pilot or original concept have you seen that you think wouldnt have worked? where they made the right call by recasting or changing the tone of the show? Comes to my mind Ren and Stimpy adult version or the Tracey Ullman's version of The Simpsons as well. I think also South Park had an early version before the pilot?
It would be nice if you add the URL to the pilot you mention c: Thanks!

Rogue AI Agent deletes entire show at a major Swedish TV Channel (Swedish Article)
English summary: AI allegedly deletes entire season of 'The Challenge Sweden'.
The entire upcoming season of 'The Challenge Sweden' has reportedly been deleted by an AI agent, forcing TV4 to postpone its premiere until 2027, just weeks before the originally intended premiere.
According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the production company Mastiff had allowed an AI agent access to its server. The AI allegedly deleted the fully edited season, and the project could not be recovered. Key points from the article:
- Hundreds of days of work lost: The deletion reportedly wiped out the completed season, representing months of production and editing work involving hundreds of people.
- Premiere postponed: The show was originally scheduled to premiere on November 22, 2026, but has now been pushed back to 2027.
- TV4 confirms a technical failure: The broadcaster confirmed that edited footage had disappeared and that the season would need to be edited again from scratch.
- AI involvement remains unconfirmed: Although Aftonbladet's sources claim an AI agent caused the deletion, TV4 says it is unaware of the claims specifically linking the incident to AI.
- No new premiere date: TV4 has not yet announced a replacement date.
---
UPDATE: TV4 refutes the story in this article: https://www.tv4.se/artikel/2iwfK5MNpFID98pxQbsC7t/hel-saesong-av-tv4-programmet-raderat-av-ai
Excerpt:
âThere was no malicious AI agent that went in and deleted the footage. Unfortunately, thatâs simply not true,â says TV4âs Head of Programming, Mia Lindqvist.
âIn this case, the big problem is that the backup system failed. Thereâs always a backup when youâre editing this much footage, but it didnât work. So when the footage was deleted, there was no copy of it anywhere else either. We have to start the editing process all over again. All the raw footage is still intact, though, along with everything else,â she continues.
