The poll concerning allowing AI Translation has been concluded and a vote to ban AI Translations has won by a large majority. While a lot of pro-AI people have threw a lot of personal attacks my way regardless of their understanding of the situation I also understand those individuals are the loud minority and I don't care about their opinion on the matter. We had an equal issue with a loud minority of anti-ai users attacking members as well while the civil discussion fell by the wayside for many users due to these two sides slinging barbs back and forth making the subreddit itself a nightmare to interact with. Many of you have reached out to me publicly and/or privately on here/discord/blusky/etc and were much more civil and a pleasure to talk to.
I should take a moment to talk about what 'Core contributor' are. Long story short it just means you posted and/or commented within 30 last calendar days from the poll going live. Almost every subscriber to the subreddit is not a core contributor. I have been asked repeatedly about what the metric entails and almost every person showing concern about how it appeared were unaware they also were not a 'Core contributor' as far as the sub's metrics were concerned.
Now, let me expand on what I said previously and what this will mean for the future. As many of you are probably aware I made a Human Fan Translation list detailing fan translations I am aware of through public discussion or being told privately it was allowed to be shared. I will keep this pinned and update it as need be. I have been asked by a few people to add in completed fan translation and officially released English titles.
While this information is on the Akurasu link I provided since so many have asked I will see about updating this information. Others also asked about making a list of non-translated titles... but I don't want the page to get too cluttered. Eh, we'll see.
I mentioned doing a thread for AI Translation. This is happening. I made the human list because I had the information already and I was honestly kind of tired of writing them up repeatedly every week, heh. I have been speaking to a few AI patchers doing SRW patches to gather a basic list and I will be making a similar post. No one may talk about AI patches, share pictures/video, and discuss where to find them. A lot of the AI Patch hosting sites also have ISOs/Roms which falls under rule 3 and can result in a ban. PLEASE do not mention these sites since automod is set up to ban those domain names.
While talking to a few AI patchers I have informed them they can comment once on the AI Translation list and give a very brief mentioning of the titles they worked on, a discord/website link, and a small blurb if they so wish. I have also told any AI Patcher if they do not want to be mentioned on list they can have their games remain unlisted. This is same rules for being added/removed as the Human Translation list.
The extent of AI talk is if someone directly asks about a translation you can let them know a pinned list exists and/or a direct yes/no. Feel free to say things like 'subreddit rules so I can't link', 'try google', etc. While I don't care for the AI translation patches and do not plan to ever use them as previously said I don't demand others follow suit. If you reading this want to use AI translation patches go nuts.
This does not apply to using on screen translators. They are not included in the AI ban.
Meanwhile, while on the topic of AI, Generative AI is banned outright. The sub's discord banned such images months ago and that applies here too.
The next ban applies to Human and AI translation patches. No patches based on stolen assets or require a paywall to access. Using stolen assets should be obvious and the only exception is the clear exception of Official Translation or similar level releases... if one comes to exist.
I can not stress this enough. No positive or negative AI talk. I have allowed 'neutral' talk in the lines of base acknowledgement. If someone offhand mentions they use AI no one is to attack them for this, but if the message is clearly rage baiting it will be removed too.
If you are using AI patches and have issues with it do not ask here. It will be removed under AI discussion rule. The idea is by having the patch creators share the contact information users looking for assistance can talk to them for any issues. At the same time most locations hosting these patches have dedicated discussion forums for such talk. Resources exist to help you, you'll be fine even with the ban in effect.
The AI Translation post will go up soon, uhh... maybe tonight? Tomorrow? I need to make it still and my time is limited today. (EST Timezone) This is my middle ground plan I always intended to make at minimum. If AI was allowed patch creators would be able to make posts about their projects as they go which is essentially how things went before and light discussion about said patches would have been allowed. With the poll voting for ban... this is not the case.
I will leave the comments unlocked for this post. Feel free to ask any questions here in comments or just hit me up directly. Had a busy day so hope I didn't ramble too much. Wanted to get this done ASAP since the poll was done.
Edit: I will be purging a lot of old AI posts... Nothing personal. Don't worry if you see old stuff being removed.
