Fan-Art I created this wallpaper back in the early 2000s. I called it Stargate SimpG-1

Sorry for the potato quality, it’s a repost from someone that had it on their hard drive back in 2020. The original animation sits on a drive somewhere in my office. I realize there’s a lot of characters that could have been portrayed by different Simpsons characters but I was pretty young and didn’t get all the nuances yet.

if this post gets enough attention I might be willing to dig up the original and export it in 4k 😂

By early 2000s standards this is practically Hi-Def 🤣. Also, it must've blown your mind when Dan Castellanata showed up in a later season.

Sidenote: it never occurred to me until now how ironic it is that Dan Castellanata has one of those names that Homer Simpson would struggle to pronounce.

I'm gonna be real, the metadata for the image shows it at 512x384 resolution. Funny enough, that is exactly a 4:3 aspect ratio (divide 512 and 384 by 128) so I'll give OP credit for that. But why they chose to make it 4/5 the size of the standard 640x480 resolution that was common back in the day is interesting to me. Of course, 720p didn't get catch on until the mid to late 2000's, so this being early 2000's definitely checks out.

Stuff like this is such a time capsule though. I still have files from my high school multimedia class where I learned how to edit images in Adobe Photoshop (not CS) 6. Very cool that OP kept it all this time.

512x384 was a common Macintosh resolution on their older/smaller models like the LC series. People didn't always own the latest and greatest back then, either. Could be why.

Mac LC was discontinued in 1992. By the 2000s, surely most Mac users would be on iMacs?

On PCs, SVGA was standardised in 1987 with a maximum resolution of 1280*1024.

You'd be amazed at what people use when they don't have money to buy a $1500 iMac with early aughts money. (Which would be about $3000 in today money.) Analogy today, is how many people keep using very old iPhones for the same reason.

This is not the original size, at some point it was scaled down or maybe the person that posted it on Reddit 6 years ago had downloaded one of the lower res versions I had up on my website (that’s now defunct) I remember posting sizes all the way up to 1600x1200 (Oooooh fancy right)

But seriously I wanted to make sure someone could find it in any size that would fit their screen and look clear. 

I really think I’m going to dig for the old file. 

This post made me realize just how little from that era survived. I’m sure even my recycling bin folders on old hard drives have data that’s just gone from the modern internet.

That'd kick ass if you could find it! I wish I had more of my old stuff, a lot of it was saved to a portable HDD that I loaned to someone when I was in the Navy, and they accidentally formatted it and erased everything.

Oh no, that’s gotta be heartbreaking. I’m an old drive hoarder so I’m sure, as long as they spin up I can recover the data.

Yeah, I realized that it would be pointed out. I hoped that knowing it was before all that happened would mean it’s not gonna be too weird. But thanks for addressing it like this.

Lisa was a Nox and CBG was supposed to be Hammond because he kinda fit their body type. I think I was going more from pics of simpsons characters I could find at the time.

The amount of hours this must’ve taken to make…. Someone else said this was crazy impressive for the time, but I’d say this is impressive even today considering you probably drew most of this on photoshop or paint.
