Discussion 149.9 Gas on Lake Street
Saw there was a 10c/litre deal at Esso/Circle K and it looks like nearby gas stations have followed suit.
Bit of a frenzy out here. Already saw an argument!

Hello, and welcome to r/stcatharinesON. As this question is a very commonly asked. The moderators have decided to create this community highlight / MEGATHREAD to address the most commonly asked questions within this SUB. IF your question is not answered here. Please try to use the SEARCH function at the top of this subreddit first before creating a new submission.
1: Areas that are "safe"? - Safe is a generic term that the majority of us will have a different definition of. St. Catharines in general is a very safe city. The majority of problems and the feeling of being unsafe are generally surrounded around the problem of the numerous unhoused individuals in the city, and the ongoing drug problems that plague that entire country. You will find the majority of these individuals around the block between Church Street meeting Geneva Street, Niagara Steet, Queenston Street and St Paul Street. There is also a shelter on the corner of Gale and Riordon Street. As well as many temporary shelters in place in and around Centennial Gardens - This being said. The majority of these individuals will leave you alone, and the majority or crime in the city is related to thefts to fuel the drug problem. If you are uncomfortable being around people that are struggling with addiction and mental health, you should avoid the area. However, the city's downtown core is beautiful, holds a very unique charm, and has plenty of thriving local businesses that have, and continue to be part of the heart of our wonderful city.
2: Where can I meet new people? - This is another generic question asked a ton. Meeting people is subjective to the type of people you want to create relationships with. A lot of local businesses have different types of meet and greet nights. The most popular being the Mahtay Café & Lounge on St Paul Street and Ludology Boardgame Cafe. We have many amazing local restaurants, cafes and shops that also offer a different variety of patrons that you may want to check out and start a friendly conversation with some. This SUB IS NOT A DATING WEBSITE. Any posts trying setup meetings one to one will be removed due to safety concerns.
3: Setting up my new home?
A: Hydro/Electric is to be setup with Alectra Utilities.
B: Natural Gas is to be setup with Enbridge Gas.
C: Water is to be setup with the City Of St. Catharines ( Online account access available).
D: Insurance - Please contact and local Insurance Broker.
E: ISP (Internet Service Provider) - Please see the business recommendation megathread.
4: Local Businesses - Please see the Business recommendation megathread. Over 90% of the same questions asked on a regular basis can be found in there with the most popular posts/answers highlighted.

First all the lies about GM, and now cheating.
I don't support Siscoe, why are my tax dollars going towards his cheating. Some example he sets.

This is in relation to the off duty Niagara police officer who was impaired and fled officers before crashing into a vehicle.
Said victim declined to provide any information to the SIU and as a result the subject officer would not be subject to any related charges beyond the ones at the scene.
**CORRECTION: Article does appear to read that the OFFICER is the injured party in this circumstance. SIU was investigating whether the actions of police in the context of the pursuit resulted in the officers broken nose. But since he’s uncooperative, they have nothing to go on. Sorry for confusion.

Hi!
Any recommendations for an affordable party hall or community centre in St. Catharines or nearby for around 80 people, with tables, chairs, and kitchen access?
Ideally, available for weekend evening rentals until midnight.
Please share prices and suggestions.
Thanks!

Has anyone has seen the show 'Below' on Netflix and seen that Labatt Blue hat?
My gf stated that her grandpa used to wear that same hat and would love to find one to bring up to the hunting camp in his memory. If anyone has one laying around, or knows where to get one, please DM me.

Hello,
This post may be a long shot, but I am Ruby's original owner. She was surrendered to the Humane Society in St. Catharines June, 2024 and adopted in July, 2024. I surrendered her because one of my bonded cats was severely attacking her and I had to find her a new home. I am looking to connect with her new family if possible, and see if I can receive updates like pictures or just letting me know how she is doing. I attempted to go through the Humane Society to do this, however they do not share adopter information. Anyway, thanks for reading this!

I've been to a couple food banks this month which have helped with bare minimum survival, unfortunately alot was expired and I still have a few essential needs that weren't met, and there's still 2 weeks left in the month. Im trying not to worry and stress. Next month should be better. But this month is rough.
Any suggestions for actual grocery cards would be so very appreciated! Thank you!

Anyone remember a supply teacher in the catholic school b during the 80s who would drop this story on you randomly? Recently a classmate reconnected and brought thus story up and reminded me of her.
So her dad lived out near Selkirk and spent alot of time fishing n sittin on his deck at night. In the 50s Started seeing weird ass lights way out over the lake just hanging there for hours then dropping straight down into the water. Ppl told him it was Cleveland or some cold war defense testing. Then he starts seeing these massive dark shapes moving under his boat at night in water barely deep enough for em. Locals said it’s sturgeon lol. Few months later hes hearing footsteps on the deck at night and seeing these tall shadow two sided mirror ppl just standing along the yard edge next to fields watching his house. Soon as he turns a light on they’re gone. Even went to the church and got nowhere. So one night he gets fed up and starts cussing out one of these bloody lights over the lake. Later hes putting his truck away in the garage and notices something standing behind him. This tall silverish looking thing like a funhouse mirror with arms. Could see the whole garage reflected in it except himself. He moves and the thing copies him. He stops and it keeps moving. Then it slowly raises its (arm??) and gives him this little wave motion like it knew the hiem. Next thing its gone into nothing. No footsteps no noise nothing. Old man ends up in hospital and dude is terrified and everyone hears the story from him so they moved into a motel. He never works again her and her brothers and her Mom has to sel the house to pay off a horse track racing debt he racked up. So turns out the shadow ppl werent even the biggest problem in that household. Anyways I remember following this woman around the school tarmac at recess while shes waving her arms all over the place acting out these encounters and nearly launching her coffe. We were like 11 yrs old getting this full blown paranormal nightmare from a catholic school employee between religion class and recess. Still dunno if her dad actually believed this stuff or if she was just repeating whatever wild shit he came home from the track talking about. Anyone else remember this lady? Been 40 something yrs.

Does anyone have any recommendations for hair stylists that have experience doing alternative haircuts and colouring?

Does anybody know this cat? I see her often on evening walks, usually in the Beech/Haig/Pleasant area. She is currently hanging around my garage.
I would love to know her name so I have something to call her other than “Kitty”. She is super sweet!

Confession: I'm involved with Thorold Theatre, so yes, this is a local theatre plug. But we've got a good one coming up.
DRY STREAK by Canadian playwright Leeann Minogue is coming to Club Belvedere in November. It's a comedy set during the 1988 drought on a Saskatchewan family farm.
The crops are failing, family tensions are rising, and Kate — a vegetarian, punk-rock-loving city girl — has made a rather unusual bargain with the weather:
Rain comes, Kate runs naked through town.
Suddenly, everybody has a reason to watch the skies. 😂
Thorold Theatre is celebrating 40 years, and our last four productions have sold out. We're about to launch a radio, print and TV campaign, so consider this your advance warning before the ads hit.
Five performances:
• Fri. Nov. 13 — 7 PM
• Sat. Nov. 14 — 7 PM
• Sun. Nov. 15 — 2 PM
• Fri. Nov. 20 — 7 PM
• Sat. Nov. 21 — 7 PM
📍 Club Belvedere, 57 John Street, Thorold
🎟️ $27.50 + fees
Tickets: https://thoroldtheatre.ca/buy-tickets/
If you're in St. Catharines and fancy a night of live theatre just down the road, we'd love to see you there. Supporting local arts helps keep local stages alive.

Fort Erie subreddit is very small. Juan Liu, running for mayor of Fort Erie, has a very suspicious platform, from my eyes.
Her platform is here: https://wwwhll.com/justice-and-science-party-platform/
The following is a summary of (produced by AI)
Is this not suspicious to anyone else??

Hey,
One of the many that flooded.
I’ve been stuck in limbo since the flooding happened because I’m not sure what my next step should be.
I don’t want to get ripped off by a plumber whos just taking advantage of us who need added protection now.
Im curious who everyone has used, what they paid, did they go with both a sump pump and backwater valve, or just the backwater valve?
Thanks!

Hi all,
I'm a Brock University Student looking for a room to rent in St. Catharines ideally starting this November/Decmber.
My budget is around $700 a month for an all-inclusive property, and I'm hoping for a clean place where the bathroom is shared with at most two other people. Pet friendly would be a plus since I'm planning on getting a cat, but it's not a must.
If you have a room or know of one, feel free to comment or DM me. Thanks!
