Squadron 42 Playtest Event Megathread

Hello sqruadroners (?)!

As we start to try and integrate this subreddit more into the fold of how we discuss, share, and enjoy CIG content, we are going to do our very first megathread!

This megathread is going to be dedicated to the SQ42 playtest event that occured today at in the UK. Given that this is a soft launch of megathreads here, we are not going to remove any individual threads but we will comment in all of them with a link to this megathread to hopefully push conversations here.

Cheers!

Comments from DaiumTV, french streamer, Discord

- Prologue, except that we get to see the entire sequence of events following what we saw previously. The turret shooting feels really good, and enemy movement looks less artificial.

- Timeskip to our arrival in Stanton. The Morrow Tour, which I chose to do. You can say no or leave along the way. We meet the higher-ups, register at the medical facility and the armory. I spent a lot of time exploring all the interactions, including the shooting range and so on. There's also a flight simulator to teach us how to fly. This is probably tied to our character's build, since the Academy tutorial or something similar may have been skipped.

Also, when the character gears up, there's no magical instant outfit change. For example, they take off their boots, T-shirt and trousers, with realistic cloth physics, and the same goes for putting on the flight suit and so on. I've never seen a game where you actually see your character physically putting on a flight suit (with an animation that you can skip afterwards).

- First takeoff before the jump to the Odin system. Every button in the Gladius cockpit is clickable, with character animations to go along with it. You can also set up your own power presets. Taking off is as simple as throttling up and pressing Shift.

- Timeskip to roughly the first quarter of the game: We're in Odin, but still a long way from the Coil. A patrol mission with Oldman. Space combat, a wrecked Starfarer that we explore, and FPS combat.

Then we head to the Shubin station, which is magnificent and huge, and the Cydnus ships look beautiful. It gave me that same feeling I get from Cyberpunk nowadays, in terms of how real the location felt. It actually feels alive. Same thing aboard the Idris. You really get the impression that you're in a place that genuinely exists.

We meet Gimli (Randall Graves), then Krennic(Julian Wexler). The station comes under attack, and bam, bang, boom — everything goes absolutely crazy and starts exploding... and then time's up.

There was so much to see that I couldn't make it to the end of the demo!

If this is true then It sounds like star citizen proper was really just a side project lol.

I know people have been saying it got semi sidelined recently but this appears to mean it has been for so much longer.

Like I wish the ships had this much interactivity now

14

u/Dragias 6d ago

Wouldn’t call it a side project, but definitely one that wasn’t getting the resources it needs

9

u/PrimeusOrion 6d ago

I personally think people always thought it was the other way around and the pu content was their main shtick and sq42 was the one who was deprived of resources (which is why they refused to ever show it)

But if sq42 is built to this quality I guess the pu critics were barking up a wrong tree in a way

4

u/Strayl1ght 6d ago

I’m sure that’s how it was at the beginning, but they clearly swapped resources around once they realized they actually need to ship something or else the community would revolt on them.

5

u/DirectorLurker 5d ago

This changed a few years ago - 2020/21 was when they actually switched focus to SQ42.

0

u/swisstraeng 5d ago

Exactly.

Squadron 42 was often times put basically on hold internally because all devs had to finish features for a PU patch. I think it was the right thing to do early on, because this is what brought us up to 3.0 and later patches.

And the right thing to do was also to slow down SC's development to finish SQ42 in 2020 or so.

5

u/Juls_Santana 5d ago

SQ42 was always gonna be "more" than what the multiplayer sandbox was gonna be; that's typically how it goes in gaming since sacrifices need to be made to make a game work as an open-world MMO.

10

u/DefNotAThreatActor 5d ago

God, I don't understand why people keep acting like this is some massive revelation haha. CIG has been pretty open about prioritizing Squadron 42 for certain gameplay systems for years. Back in 2021, they explicitly announced that several core gameplay teams would develop features for Squadron first before bringing them into Star Citizen. We saw a bunch of that work transferred over with 3.23 in 2024, and Chris even confirmed in his latest Letter from the Chairman that much of the gameplay engineering team spent 2024 bringing Squadron features into the PU.

He also clarified that development resources had been split roughly 50/50 for the past couple of years, with earlier development actually leaning more toward Star Citizen. It's currently around 55% Squadron and 45% SC. So while Squadron has definitely been the priority for certain systems, calling Star Citizen a side project isn't really accurate.

And don't get me wrong, I've followed this project since the original Kickstarter in 2012, and I absolutely think CIG should have WAY more to show for fourteen years of development and over a billion dollars in funding. But the whole point is that much of the technology and functionality developed for Squadron is also intended for Star Citizen. That doesn't mean transferring it into a persistent multiplayer environment is straightforward, but it also doesn't excuse how ridiculously long everything takes.

I completely agree that we should have this level of ship interactivity already. I'm just saying this isn't some secret CIG has been hiding from us. The development strategy has been publicly known for years. The real criticism should be how painfully long it's taking to actually deliver the results.

10

u/Waslay 6d ago

Theyve been saying for years that features will go to Squadron first, then they'll add the networking components to port it over to SC. Trying to get all of this to work well in the PU without creating desync issues and such is much more difficult, especially before DSM is ready to go. I expect SC to feel more like Squadron over time as they do that additional work

1

u/nschubach 6d ago

Adding buttons to the ships in the PU causes desync?

3

u/Juls_Santana 5d ago

Indirectly, yes it lends itself to desync and overall less than stellar performance.

4

u/DheeradjS 6d ago

That was honestly how it was sold to people back then. As a multiplayer companion to Squadron, not the main game.

2

u/Strayl1ght 6d ago

Well until they hit every single stretch goal and then some

2

u/UnstableMoron2 4d ago

It’s always been the piggy bank for squadron. They never itmended to go through with it

14

u/PUSSlOFAM 6d ago

I am fucking hyped based off of this comment alone

4

u/Shiirooo 6d ago

thanks, what about the flight model? how much is it different from Star Citizen?

2

u/Disastrous_Main1450 5d ago

according to space tomato: Ship speeds have increased back to 700+ normal and 1000+ afterburner.

2

u/BladyPiter 2d ago

But SQ42 uses km/h instead of m/s, so values are higher, but if you calculate it it's in current scm range.

2

u/swisstraeng 5d ago

Ship speeds are back up to what they were basically, and now there's quantum boosting. So I've heard it's significantly better and smoother than SC.

1

u/No-Vast-6340 5d ago

This is #1 question

3

u/Rop-Tamen 6d ago

So wait… CIG can make a game??

1

u/disratory1 6d ago

Randall graves from rst video?

9

u/ServoRPG 6d ago

Mr O gave a great breakdown of his experience on DTOX's stream. Worth checking out whenever his vod is available.

I'm waiting to see what tenpoundfortytwo has to say. I trust his opinion and think he'll be fair and honest.

16

u/Bucser 6d ago

Citizen spooner has a pretty decent description of everything,

Citizen Spooner Live - I played Squadron 42 Today! Star Citizen News

3

u/duckballista 5d ago

Honest question, how many of his subscribers actually watch a 4 hour video like this? 😵

3

u/Bucser 5d ago

It was a live stream fresh impressions. He also have done a shorter 35 minute summary I think.

2

u/duckballista 5d ago

Ah gotcha cheers

27

u/Bucser 6d ago

There are a bunch of refund sub bad actors and karma farming trolls on the main sub. It's great you are having this here.

5

u/Gliese581h 6d ago edited 6d ago

I wouldn’t applaud them too much, apparently a refundian got on the mod team (which is the same here as on the main sub?) and you can see the results during the last few months on the other sub

13

u/roguonreddit 6d ago

Lol.

Every single member of the mod team is bought into the project and plays at least semi-regularly. I wouldn't define anyone on our team as a refundian. We have a fair share of opinions but we all want to see the project succeed.

7

u/artuno 6d ago

They're also in this sub so watch out. I have a feeling they made this megathread to divert positive news away from the main sub once that negative post from StuartGT was made-- and got upvoted to hell-- to try and keep other reactions from popping up. Specifically pointing out StuartGT cause they always seem to stir the pot with out of context stuff.

4

u/roguonreddit 6d ago

You're reading way too much into it, we just wanted to promote that there is a Squadron 42 specific subreddit to the wider community. If we wanted to suppress negative opinions, we would have enforced the use of the megathread here. Post all the negative shit you want on the main sub, as long as you follow the rules we don't care.

2

u/TiberiusZahn 5d ago

Hi!

I will actually be making a video on this guy, it's the perfect time to do so with CIG having a 'mic drop' moment with the SQ42.

I'm going to nail him to the wall.

1

u/Dangerous-Wall-2672 2d ago

If you do, where might I watch it? I'd LOVE to see that.

1

u/TiberiusZahn 2d ago

Ill probably make it Wednesday, possibly posted that day or Thursday.

YT name is same as my Reddit. I just post funny SC montages, and its not monetized.

0

u/clain4671 5d ago

You are going to make a video telling everyone a Reddit mod you don’t like is being too mean to a video game.

Please seek professional help.

4

u/TiberiusZahn 5d ago

One of his friends, I'm assuming.

Nope, I'm going to make a video about how one dude has devoted a curiously excessive amount of his personal time trying to shape the discourse of a game he doesn't like to his liking.

For years. Couple of people have sent me a lots of really interesting stuff.

Love the part about him where he gets kicked off the E:D mod team because of some bizarre personal comments toward their development team.

3

u/artuno 5d ago

It's a bit more than that though. Sharing your opinions about whether or not you like a video game is one thing, but intentionally presenting things out of context constantly is another. That plus doing certain things like blocking anyone who provides said context to his posts so only negative people are the ones that can view and comment their posts? That shows more than just wanting to be negative of a game, but actual malicious actions beyond what is expected.

-7

u/TB_Infidel 5d ago

Hi,

"Refundian" here. We actively stop people trying to interfere with other subs like this. If you like this game then have your place to talk about it. It's also a massive breach of reddit t&c's to interfere with other subs, so if you do see anything, please report it.

My only comment would be: why do you refer to people who refund a product as something unique? Do you refer to people returning items to Amazon as "refundizonians" or something?

That's all. Enjoy!!

12

u/logicalChimp 5d ago

Side comment - people that return something to amazon *typically* don't create a dedicated subreddit about it :p

That's what earns the label 'refundian' - someone who spends their time in a subreddit dedicated to *refunding* a game... rather than just *actually* refunding, and then moving on and doing something else.

10

u/Silenceisgrey 5d ago

if i refund something, i move on with my life and give whatever product i refunded exactly zero attention, probably ever unless something new comes out.

But yet you, and allot of others from your sub, are still here. Why is that?

5

u/SubtleCosmos 6d ago

Yup certainly can see the results over the last few months.

3

u/roguonreddit 6d ago

People just can't seem to agree as to whether or not we are too pro-CIG or too anti-CIG. We pretty consistently keep our opinions out of how we mod, plenty of rulebreakers though.

5

u/swisstraeng 5d ago

Yeah but honestly I think there are just too many trolls now.

To my eyes the sub was always neutral and did not suppress negative nor promote it.

But the last few months have been terrible as an end user, because few people with alt accounts are doing everything they can to be as bad as they can without being moderated.

And in that regard I really would appreciate the moderation team to have a heavier hand. I know it's not easy, but it would really be welcome to have proper conversations with everyone again instead of having the usual "Chris this Chris that" replies.

-2

u/clain4671 5d ago

“Refundian”? Just fyi you are not beating the cult allegations by inventing your own slang for the heretics

4

u/Gliese581h 5d ago

I honestly don't give a flying fuck what you think

33

u/LordCaptain 6d ago edited 6d ago

Youtubers are going to be careful of what they say. BoredGamer joked it was "the best walking simulator" he's ever played and there was a lot of walking and some people have already been commenting that he said the playtesters weren't allowed to fly at all.

Edit: Apparently I need to be careful how I phrase things too. The whole point of this is THEY DID FLY and bored gamer did not say they didn't. He said they did, but people on the main sub are incorrectly stating he said they didn't fly.

39

u/SydM107 6d ago

I'm currently watching Citizen Spooner and he said it's not at all a walking simulator. He said that loads of people were way behind him in game progression.

He definitely flew and dogfought (dogfighted?)

28

u/SirDigbyChknCaesar 6d ago

I think it's "dogfeet"

13

u/iString 6d ago

Well you only fly a single ship, so I think it's "dogfoot"

13

u/Srefanius 6d ago

I think poor boredgamer just had a quick line that was supposed to bring across he would have preferred a little less interactive movie focus than what the game is. And then people went with that like it's really just a walking sim which it obviously isn't. It has a big focus on story and immersion first, that always was the case with games like Wing Commander. I'm pretty sure the game was built around the story and not the other way around for SQ42. But there still will be lots of combat missions, it's the bone of a military campaign, how else could it work? Especially in the beginning you just have to have a lot of world building, introducing characters, walking in your home ship and exploring it for the first time etc.

6

u/fweepa 6d ago

It also appears that bored was just taking his time during the playtest and didn't get as far into the actual gameplay as some of the others.

1

u/Bucser 5d ago

Yeah someone said that he has seen bored spending 30 minutes in the gym goofing around...

1

u/Commercial_Sea6094 3d ago

It wasn't a quick line, he reiterated it in those words a few times to a camera visibly recording him and then walked away, and it was his very first raw feelings from the playthrough. "Walking simulator, walking simulator, not enough gameplay. Not enough gameplay to comment on whether the gameplay was any good" Literally his words. Everyone is just projecting their own preferred narrative.

-2

u/Casey090 5d ago

It's a cr game, and the last vertical slice was an hour of waiting and clicking/walking. Of course it is more of a movie than a game, and people who pretend they don't know that are just playing coy.

27

u/MasterAnnatar 6d ago

Whaaaat? People are taking the singular "negative" joke/opinion out of context to make it as if that's all that's been said!? No way! /s

16

u/Gliese581h 6d ago

„Some people“ - you know exactly what kinda people ran with that comment and try to make it THE statement about the event.

15

u/Taladays 6d ago

Which is bizarre because multiple content creators and non-ccs who have spoken on discords/reddit and interviews with other CCs who didn't go have said they have done both space combat and FPS combat. We haven't even heard from group 2 yet.

With more word coming out, it seems like Bored is the outlier here, like he just spent too much time in the Prologue or something. Like what was he even doing.

11

u/LordCaptain 6d ago

Honestly he could be just an investigative player. Running through nooks and crannies and stuff and just not progressing as far as some of the other players.

2

u/Quimdell 6d ago

Looking for Easter eggs, which I doubt CIG put many in.

13

u/FuckingTree 6d ago

BG made himself a bit of a joke with that. His experience and the speculation in your comment was immediately contradicted by basically every other report coming out in videos and streams since.

9

u/BadAshJL 6d ago

I actually think he was trying to make a joke. People have said that sq42 would be a walking simulator.

8

u/FuckingTree 6d ago

I like BG because he’s almost eternally a white knight, not because I want to only hear good things, but because it’s refreshing to hear something that’s not steeped in toxic vitriol ands merciless skepticism every once in a while. That said. If they do give them video of their sessions, I think the truth of the matter will be his session will make it apparent why he had a different experience than other people who have said the opposite about their experience. Maybe it was bugs, I don’t know, but his take doesn’t vibe with everyone else (including those with no real stake to gain by omission) and he may have just not had a good experience and that limited his ability to review content he didn’t experience himself. We’ll see, over the next week I expect we’re will get more thorough debriefs

10

u/TheawfulDynne 6d ago

I don’t know why people are getting mad at BG instead of the guy who obviously deliberately clipped him out of context to doom bait.

6

u/_Franpire 5d ago

He wasn't clipped out of context. He ran to 1042, crashed the Redmonster interview, dropped his walking simulator line and said it's too little gameplay and then left. There wasn't more context.

1

u/RedMonsterSC 4d ago

It was unfortunate that they didn't continue the conversation but I was also not expecting TenPound42 to be streaming when I went to say hi. I think his full stream had the rest beyond the intentionally misleading clip that made the rounds.

1

u/Commercial_Sea6094 3d ago

What was misleading about it?

1

u/FuckingTree 3d ago

I don’t think the clip is misleading necessarily. BG couched the words in the money clip with a more nuanced explanation, but he doubled down on the line at the end and tripled down on it in his video he uploaded yesterday. At this point given the summation of everyone’s reactions, his comment is drowned by most people’s experiences who got farther into the game than he did. But the upset here was triggered by one of the very first opinions hitting the internet being “walking simulator” which was alarming for people to hear because most people try specifically to avoid that kind of game. We want it to do well; not to glaze it, but for it to get a fair shake. For like 20 min it seemed like it might have been harshly judged.

1

u/Commercial_Sea6094 3d ago

This 100% is what happened. None of this even matters but it's fascinating everyone twisting reality or not even seeing reality when it's right there in the video. It's so interesting

3

u/Dragias 6d ago

Lot of people taking what he said out of context

3

u/redcoatwright 6d ago

tbh these streamers should be careful with how they say shit, this is probably the most scrutinized media release for any CIG related shit ever.

I want them to be brutally honest but I also want them to say stuff clearly.

5

u/Rivitur 6d ago

I don't think that's true considering people like spooner said they flew around

1

u/Arcodiant 6d ago

Is there a link to BG's comments?

5

u/Waslay 6d ago

It was a short conversation on TenPoundFortyTwo's stream. He joked about it being a walking simulator but also said it was good, just that he didnt have enough time with it to properly judge the gameplay. It also sounds like some people did more talking to NPCs and doing the Morrow Tour and others skipped all that and got to the second mission, so its possible BG saw less gameplay than others did

1

u/Ok_Adhesiveness1560 6d ago

My biggest complaint with starfield was all the walking thats a huge turn off for any game

0

u/killerbake 6d ago

Everyone is saying bored gamer doesn’t know how to play a game to save his life

-1

u/Casey090 5d ago

As long as we didn't see anything ourselves, the only thing that matters about the event is that it was highly secret.

4

u/Waslay 5d ago

"Highly secret"

Everyone that went has been doing interviews and talking about their experiences. How is that even remotely secret?

-14

u/amhudson02 6d ago

Wait, in a 5 hour session they did ZERO flying?

13

u/EmilyRetcher 6d ago

that's a lie.

6

u/amhudson02 6d ago

Good, I was just trying to clarify. That would have been insane if it were true.

12

u/Key-Ad-8318 6d ago

Apparently some people died so much that they didn’t progress very far at all

9

u/One-Passion1428 6d ago

That's a good sign lol

7

u/100goto10 6d ago

So skill issue?

6

u/Key-Ad-8318 6d ago

I’d guess so.

One guy said he died 4 times in the EVA push pull portion of the intro from Citcon, said the guy next to him died there 5 times

9

u/MasterAnnatar 6d ago

No. Bored Gamer made an offhand joke about it being "the best walking simulator you've ever played" and despite basically everyone else praising both the flight and fps gameplay, that singular joke is being pushed to the extreme.

-15

u/PiibaManetta 6d ago

5h play test and not begin able to fly a spaceship in a space game, with the new fantastic fully functional flight model? That sound like a joke for real.

6

u/redbluemmoomin 6d ago

🤦🤣🤦different people did different things in the game. Some people wasted all their time exploring the Jav and doing activities on the Idris. Others did missions. That's a good sign that while on rails it's not too on rails.

2

u/PiibaManetta 6d ago

good to here that! from "not begin allowed to fly" to "people have played in different way" there is a lot difference!

5

u/Bucser 5d ago

So if they gave them so much to do for the first day, what is going to be the program for the next 2 days?

8

u/Waslay 5d ago

Q&A/studio tour tomorrow, town hall/bigger Q&A on Sunday

5

u/Juls_Santana 5d ago

I'd like to know what the specs were on the rigs they used

5

u/BagelBenny 5d ago

GTX 5090s with AMD9800X3Ds think 64 GB or ram. So maxed. They devs said the game is meant for playing at 4k native.

2

u/ISISstolemykidsname 5d ago edited 5d ago

Seems like they were recording too from what I've seen a few people say?

Edit. Oh seems it was both people walking around filming and gameplay being captured. Based on what redmonster said.

2

u/Waslay 5d ago

The screens were being recorded as well, someone mentioned they were asked not to put any fps counters or display info up because they wanted to have a clean recording of the gameplay. Likely they will be editing the gameplay and reactions into a marketing video at some point soon

0

u/Casey090 5d ago

That's rent money for a year... That's ominous.

1

u/Deleted_252 5d ago

All we know is that most of the computers (not all) had FE 5090s. Monitors were at 4K native (no upscale or Frame gen) 60fps

3

u/Metasheep 6d ago

Tenpound-fourtytwo currently live with RedMonster SC and tvLiQuid talking about the playtest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NX-b5sPfoVo

7

u/Wunderpuder 6d ago

Check the current livestream of space tomato. He's talking to those who played the game.

4

u/Waslay 6d ago edited 6d ago

Watching now, most are giving it about 70-80/100, some as high as 90. Haven't heard anyone rate lower than 70

Edit: Someone said 90-95 now

1

u/Dragias 6d ago

Right where it needs to be

-9

u/dejecaal 6d ago

All these content influencers giving it a "general public estimate" around 70-80 out of 100 must be living in a different universe where Starfield doesn't have a Metacritic score of 83.

Or alternatively the game really sucks, which I doubt.

12

u/Waslay 6d ago

Everyone that attended has played SC a decent amount. I think anyone that has played SC would rate Starfield much lower than 83

3

u/logicalChimp 5d ago

There is no way in hell that Starfield deserves a score of 83...

3

u/ejectbutton420 6d ago

When is it going to be our turn Chris!!!!

3

u/Bucser 5d ago

Second day update from 10pound42. He got a 2 mission demo in VR. He is live now

3

u/StarAlone 4d ago

From BarCitizen (From 1042)
Benoit apparently asked about social tools just commented to wait for the next 10 from the community.

Very interested what they are going to say there

1

u/IbnTamart 6d ago

Still no release date?

13

u/mileskg21 6d ago

Q2 next year but probably May-ish whenever flight week is

1

u/Ok-Novel-358 5d ago

Given the track record of this game, what you're saying is "No"

There is a "release target", as in CIG saying in a roundabout way "we sure hope it's done by then"

1

u/WrongDirt 6d ago

still no specific release date.

7

u/Educational-Back-275 6d ago

They said release date shortly after the event.

1

u/ShapCap 3d ago

No they didn’t.

1

u/GrimmSalem 6d ago

We still have a few days left im sure they will show off any special editions addons

1

u/LiterarischKI 6d ago

Most feedback I have heard say it is not ready, bug fixing wise.

2

u/LucidStrike 6d ago

Why would it be ready like 6 months out?

1

u/The_Villain1 5d ago

because it was actually supposed to release this year, and "GTA launching at the same time" was supposedly why.

6

u/LucidStrike 5d ago

TenPound42 said a CIG employee said final polishing efforts were pushed back once they decided to extend the runway.

I don't know about you, but as someone who has never developed a game before, I try not to draw grand conclusion about how game production works. Not everything works the way your raw intuition suggests.

1

u/UnstableMoron2 4d ago

It’s been on final polish for two years

3

u/LucidStrike 4d ago

Incorrect. First off, it hit feature-complete, which is presumably what you're talking about, in 2023. However, SQ42 only hit CONTENT-complete in late 2025. Not two years of either.

Moreover, it's called 'final' polish for a reason. The word final isn't there for redundancy. In broadest terms, final polish is when you address all remaining blockers for release. With the delay, while they aren't likely to make major changes, given it's not THAT much extra time, but they'll use the extra time largely for opportunistic improvements. You don't do FINAL polish while you're changing things.

Nevermind that even released games have some bugs. I don't know where y'all get this notion of bugfree launches from in the first place honestly 🤷🏿‍♂️

1

u/Afraid-Ad4718 6d ago

Mate have you slept under a rock? Gta 6 with about 100 hours of campaign gameplay is releasing this november, ofcourse they cant launch the game when gta with 100 hours of gameplay will release right?

No you need to wait till q2 2027 about 8 months max from now to release SQ42 ofcourse....

1

u/Transcendence_MWO 6d ago

It's clear in this thread what the space experience it, but what's not clear is the ground experience. As far as weapon handling, item interactions, reloads, getting more ammo, etc. Is it all PU-style animation lock where you go through the whole motion? I do see the comment below about the (at least after the first time) skippable suit-up process, so that's good. But yea, just really interested how the gunplay and environment interaction are.

The inventory screen is like the quick one we have in sc, with your stuff at the bottom, the body you are looting up top. It was working well, with small indicators on the mags. Like II for a mag used by the weapon on slot 2.

Reload and ammo repool is like Sc but cleaner. Gunplay is quite good. Not Battlefield or something like that but it's really fun. And maelstrom making the enemy Armor break into pieces create a lot of impact to the gunfights

Long as it’s decent and playable then that’s what I want

Im all for having completely skippable outfitting animations. I wish more games would have immersion options. I will be over the moon to have to go through a complete outfitting process every time, and I know for a fact others will want to burn that process with fire

Are there any responses from people that weren't Star Citizen players? I heard that non-Star Citizen people were also invited.

3

u/ShapCap 3d ago

There were not any non-SC players here. Other than Mark Hamill.

Until I see it I don't believe anything.

There were 120 invited guests, you know; you have plenty of options for getting information

Yeah sorry, I've heard enough "opinions", "promises", "first looks" and etc. over the years. This company doesn't deserve any trust. I'm pretty sure there also was very careful curation of who was invited and NDA's signed. No thank you. Zero trust.

I'm not talking about the company; I'm talking about the guests

Who may or may not have their source of income tied to the success of the game. Sorry no.

They invited several creators that have been very vocal and critical of CIG. Morphologist as of late has been very critical of CIG but was still invited. He does kind of have a large part of his yt channel centered around SC content but they also invited levelcapgaming who has also been critical about CIG but doesn't revolve his content around SC. Like he maybe makes a video on it once a year when some big update happens but he's definitely not an SC ytubers.

Not everyone invited is even a content creator, some are just early backers or people that make community tools

3

u/Disastrous_Main1450 6d ago

On the contrary! Criticism is permitted under the NDA, and a large number of people don't rely on Squadron 42 for their primary income, you're just being paranoid, I suggest you take a look at all the reviews being published right now; I see nuance and restraint, though I'm sure you could spin it negatively if you're really set on doing so

The nda is public information. You had to have chosen not to read it.

Everyone Space Tomato has interviewed so far (like 5 or 6 people) have said its great, at least a 7/10 but most say more like 8 or 9 out of 10. Ive heard many good things/hype, not sure where you're getting this idea that people didnt think it was good

Welcome to reddit, where everything is either dogshit or handcrafted by the god of video game design and nothing in between

I feel a bit like everyone saying "hmmm I need time to gather my thoughts, yeah there were some good things" is kind of a bad sign?

I'd be more concerned if everyone came blasting out of the gate with 'OMG, it's perfect'. That would suggest that they're not being genuine; nothing is ever 100/100 from first exposure.
