Speed Twin Welcome to r/SpeedTwin

Welcome, fellow Speed Twin owners and fans!

The purpose of this sub is pretty straight forward: it’s a place for Speed Twin owners and fans to discuss the Triumph Speed Twin.

Feel free to post on a full range of topics about the Speed Twin including, but not limited too:

  • Update/Recall Info
  • Modifications
  • Replacement Parts
  • Dealer Reviews/Info
  • Images
  • Time Slips
  • Great Places to Ride
  • Whatever else you can think of that relates to our beloved bike of choice

At the moment the only rules are, that there are no rules. They’ll be added as needed, but hopefully this sub will not require a ton of moderation in that regard.

Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions to help make this sub a great one, and feel free to spread the word!

Got her on 3/22 but I had to do a lot of clean up to make it look like how I want her to look. First 2 photos is how she used to look like and the messy wiring.

Front wheel Axis stuck

Hi all, feeling really stupid for having to ask but I'm not managing to remove my front wheel axis and I don't really know what I'm doing wrong / not doing.

Situation is: I need to change my tire valve completely and rather than putting my bike on the trailer, I prefer just bringing my front wheel to the tire dealership since they can handle my request quicker if I only bring the front wheel. Currently my bike is on a front stand with 2 little stumps going into my fork and the back is on a claw Paddock. I've loosened 1 clamp bolt, and after a couple of spins I can keep on rotating the axis but it doesn't come out any further, I've pulling it out, applying WD40, searched for any other clamp bolts (couldn't find any), ... I prefer not hitting the axis with anything to avoid damage.

I was thinking that maybe the little stumps of the front wheel stand block the axis from coming out (even though they don't appear to touch), so I'll try a solution without the front stand tonight. Any of you that had similar experiences or can think of something I'm doing wrong / should definitely do? Thanks in advance!

Air snorkel removal.

I see people often remove air snorkel. So I was wondering if it's worth doing it. And if so, how? I did a try it on my 2022 speed twin 1200 but I couldn't remove it just using my hands.

Thanks!

Speed Twin Just ordered the TEC X-Pipe and the Slip On Ex for myST1200 (2019). Will do diy fit. Any tips from the folks already on the path? Over the last 5 years of ownership, have mostly kept it stock.

I was looking over my bike and I can't exactly figure out what this clear thing with what looks like to be metal shavings in it behind the engine. Anyone know what this is?

24' Speed twin 1200

Hey all!

Looking to get a grab rail for my 24' speed twin but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I found one that is for a 22' but I'm not sure if it'll fit a 24'. Would anyone have a photo of what the bar under the seat looks like for a 22' speedtwin 1200 and a 24' speed twin 1200?

I'd like to compare it to see.

Thank you!! _^

Siphon out/use up in the tank before a 3-4 week break from riding?

When storing the bike for over 3-4 weeks or just not able to ride frequently, is it recommended to do anything with the remaining fuel in the tank? I’ve spoken with ppl who drive around until near empty or even siphon out the fuel b4 storage stating that old fuel sludges and clogs up the engine. The dealership said nothing needs to be done, just leave as is, because it’s a modern fuel injected engine. I’m not knowledgeable at all about engines but I don’t think adding a fuel stabilizer into a HP engine is wise, it’s not as if it’s a lawnmower etc. I’ve been getting different opinions on what I read online, people I speak with, and from the sales people the local dealership so wanted to ask here in a Speed Twin specific forum. I do understand that the battery could lose charge so I’m going to get a Optimate3.

ST 1200 as an upgrade?

I started out on a Trident 660, been on it for about a year and enjoy it. How much difference am I looking at in this as an upgrade?

I’m 36 and ride pretty responsibly, but I would love to have some more power and the looks are just perfect especially with the new lower handlebar options.

ST 1200 1st bike, opinions

Post image
28 Upvotes

I recently purchased a Speed Twin 1200 as a first bike and I am a new rider. I am really liking the machine and am glad I chose it. I’m sticking to low traffic country roads and practicing slow speed maneuvers until I build up my confidence to go out into traffic so haven’t really unleashed the engine’s full capability. Are there any other first timers on the ST and if so what are your experiences. Also would like to hear advice, opinions and recommendations from more experienced riders.

Brake pedal

I broke my rear brake pedal and haven't been able to find much for replacement options. OEM part number is T2023075. I found two OEM pedals ranging in price from $150-210. Any after market options out there that anyone has used?

Exhaust option

Hey Twin owners: I want to do a side mount, vertical license plate. Trouble is, the stock exhaust interferes with the bracket. Does anyone have experience with a shorter or different exhaust that would accommodate? I was thinking of trying the slash cut exhaust from British Customs but I'm not looking for it to be significantly louder. Thanks.

Speed Twin Subtle Mods!

Post image
10 Upvotes

My new late ‘24 Speed Twin 1200.

Absolutely loving this bike, and starting to make some subtle mods to her.

  • TEC Parts Tail Tidy
  • Quad Lock centre mount
  • Radiator Guard (found an eBay store that does unbranded Evotech guards for £30!)

But my favourite new mod was turning those headlight mounts black with Simoniz Tough Satin Black paint and replacement Black Marine Steel hardware from Accu - best £25 I’ve spent!

Question now - do I use the same paint on the heel guards, or do I have to fork out for powder coating?

Cafe seat for 2024 speed twin 1200

(reposting because somehow I forgot the model of my bike when posting)

Some pictures of the new cafe seat for I got on Etsy for my speed twin. It is a bit narrower in the front than the stock seat and the hump is far enough back that even at 6'1" I'm not bolt upright. I also asked the maker to give it another 2cm of height for my long legs. Very well done over all and as long as you can wait a month or so worth every penny. https://www.etsy.com/listing/822179925/speed-twin-synthetic-pu-leather-seat-for
