What! My folks are boomers and went to college. Dad was a Lab Tech with his Associates degree and mom was a teacher with a Master's and we had a small business. We lived quite well. Vacations, cross country road trips in the family RV. A boat to go fishing on the ocean, money for mom and dad to have their own cars, a company car and dads sports car. I am far poorer than how I grew up.

You probably aren’t the norm.

Which part do you think isn't the norm? A good salary on an associates degree in the 80s or adults today being worse off than their parents?

Growing up in a family that owns a boat, an RV, a sports car, lots of vacations, etc.

I don't think that was the point, though. Today there is no way a teacher and a lab tech could afford that lifestyle with a family without a trust fund.

They also owned a business and who knows what kind of inter generational wealth they had. I don’t think most families with a lab tech and teachers salaries could afford all those things back in the 80s. They probably can’t today either. Regardless I think this conversation depends very heavily on where you live. Most of my millennial friends are doing much better than their parents did but maybe that’s specific to where I live (western Canada)
