Houses became an investment so many people and companies began buying houses to rent because of passive income.

About the same number people own homes now then they did in the 80’s. Biggest problem is we stopped building homes at the same rate after 08.

Being a landlord isn’t passive income. A landlord should be maintaining the property, otherwise it degrades over time.

True and especially for mom and pop landlord who own just a few homes. Most of them are handy so they do the maintenance themselves. Others just hire a handy man to take care of things.

Being a landlord is absolutely passive income.

Let’s take my apartment for example. I’ve lived here 3 years. Do you know how much time my landlord has put into “maintaining the property” besides simply raising my rent?

Maybe 15 minutes of gaslighting me telling me the black mold isn’t a structural problem. That’s it. He hasn’t done a single day of work in years.

I said “should”. I thought you were coming to it from a landlord perspective. Sucks you have a shitty landlord.
