I couldn't agree more here. With the horror ads, new call of duty coming out, even these political ads are really trying to get the shock value... I had to turn the game off so I could still hang out with my children on one of my two days off a week. Wish we could just watch sports like I did with my dad when I was little.

Yeah, the CoD one was odd to me, too. Like really, we need to watch people blindfolded and tied up and executed as a commercial? I'm far from being against FPS games (I play them all the time), but what the fuck? Imagine MW2's advertisement just being the "No Russian" mission. Most people would definitely be asking what the fuck they're doing.

Right?!?! And me too, I actually have played a ton of CoD... I might even buy that one. But that was the last thing I wanted to watch with my 5 year old when we're just trying to hang out and watch some sports.

Question: would you allow your >5 year old child watch the execution that's scheduled for November?

Nope, but I also recognize that you can't stop your kids from seeing everything. It's part of life, and how they grow to be a person. Expecting the government to step in and fill those cracks is insanity.

Why wouldn't you? Don't you want your child to be desensitized to violence they could reasonably see when out for a walk or at the public park? What's so bad about showing children execution videos, right? It's just a part of life, and has been for decades, right?

Part of what you said reminds me that sports commercial breaks are highly predictable, come at scheduled times/intervals (usually), and are prefaced with “and we’ll be right back after this commercial break”. So why does the dad in the original post just not learn to do something with his kid during the breaks?

Ex:

“And with that play, we head into the 2-minute warning. We will right back after this commercial break”

“Commercial break Little Man! You know the drill: go hide, I’ll count to 20. You win if I don’t find you before the break is over”
