Could this be an example of a misunderstanding? The lady is looking mostly downwards, didn't even take a look at the younger lady. She wants to go down but stops, and moves to the side, letting a bunch of people walk by before she too descends. The whole thing is at most 30 seconds long. She seems to notice the camera but i have doubts if she understood what the young lady was trying to do. As soon as the people cross, she goes down and exits the video frame. If this was malicious, wouldn't she have stayed longer in the path of the camera? Also, it doesn't seem like the young lady says anything, so how is the old woman supposed to know?

Shhh, don't want to suggest context that would possibly invalidate hating on an older person here.

Tbh the narrative proposed makes me think “fair play; these people that turn the world into their photo/streaming opportunity are obnoxious”

In fairness, the lady that’s setting up a pose (using video) doesn’t act obnoxiously beyond taking over that space

ETA: Maybe the ambiguity in how it can be viewed is deliberate, and we’re buying into engagement bait - what a world we live in

It is ambiguous, which I guess makes it especially clever engagement bait.

Yeah how dare people want to capture good photos as memories but are there alone and thus must improvise, screw them!

She literally looks directly at the woman's phone before taking her own out.

She wasn’t looking when she put it there, she just came across it and was already taking her phone out. She probably didn’t think anything about the reason it was there, not everyone is instagram obsessed and would recognise somebody is using that to take a selfie

No no, everything anyone ever does that is inconvenient to someone else for a few seconds is because they are the devil doing it on purpose.

This is pretty clearly what happened. She's stopped on the stairs to look at her phone, and when she moves to her right it's to let people up the stairs. She's not "deliberately" doing anything - at worst, a little unaware of her surroundings.

She looked directly at the phone two times and still decided to stand in the middle of the shot, that's pretty deliberate

I'm sure she saw the girl set the phone up in her peripheral, but even if she didn't, you don't just stand In front of a camera that's actively recording.

It's a museum, there aren't a lot of other reasons a phone would be recording

What about the old lady who just climbed the stairs to stand where she was with phone in hand at the end of the video. I think the grannies were in cahoots to stop her from taking a picture while appearing innocent

I fully agree this looks like a misunderstanding, the other lady was looking at her phone confused, then trying to find her way with other walkers coming through. That’s it imo

Yeah people are so quick to judge. She probably just doesn’t realise what the camera is set up for and maybe didn’t even know the other girl was taking a video.
