She got out of the way of people using the stairs fool

447

u/Stevenstorm505 Aug 30 '26

She fucking looked right at the camera, stopped and then started fiddling with her phone before they came towards her. She was blocking the photo. And normally I would be all about it, but this chick wasn’t even doing anything wrong or cringe. She was just trying to take a wide shot of her and the art.

17

u/ImmediatePiano6690 Aug 30 '26

Can't help but feel like it's engagement bait, especially as the woman moves pretty much immediately as the other gets back.

78

u/pylond Aug 30 '26

I feel like it took me way too long to find a sensible comment here. I will happily agree that influencers mostly suck. Taking this picture/video would have hurt nobody. The lady just wanted a good shot of her with the art and that old biddy took it upon herself to ruin it. There was no need for it. The influencer lady waited until the area was mostly cleared and was not interfering with anyone. I just don’t understand all the hate she seems to be getting.

10

u/Brilliant_Dot3916 Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

I'm glad I found you here lol. I also don't understand the hate

2

u/Ishmael75 Aug 30 '26

Sometimes it’s just “woman does thing” and people get all mad about it. If it was a dude taking a selfie at a football game no one would be mad.

2

u/ThatGuyBench Aug 30 '26

Dont you think, especially given that the old lady is old, and thus likely bit slower in the head, when she looked at the camera, it might have been a moment of "The fuck is that? Ah some camera thing. Where was I? Lets check the phone."

Just because she looked at the camera, does not mean that she put the pieces together and realized that she is blocking a photo. And at least my own experiences with the elderly, make me think that this is what happened, rather than any actual malice was intended.

3

u/EntertainerSuper8933 Aug 30 '26

Yes, especially if it was a selfie with a tripod or some kind of setup. She sees it but doesn't know what she is looking at (blank stare) and then she sees the family coming and moves to the right side of the stairs, as one does in the US, to let them pass, while finishing up looking at her message. Then she moves on. This had NOTHING to do with the girl up above, who she wasn't even really aware of.

3

u/downsideup9494 Aug 30 '26

Just because someone is a senior doesn't mean they are "a bit slower in the head". Grow up. Anyone could have unintentionally blocked the photo. Young people, their faces buried in their screens, are far more oblivious of their surroundings than older folks.

2

u/ThatGuyBench Aug 31 '26

Don't get me wrong, I didnt mean to imply that I could not be as oblivious as the old lady. Actually the reason why I wrote the comment is because I absolutely can imagine myself being unintentionally just as oblivious as the old lady. I am not trying to suggest that I am any better here.

Dunno, to me it seems like you are trying to make a big deal out of nothing here.

0

u/ItzDaGod Aug 30 '26

You must be joking, she has a smart phone in her hand

2

u/ThatGuyBench Aug 31 '26

Yes indeed she has a smart phone in hand. She is aware smarphones exist and she obviously can use one herself.

Your point is what?

Therefore she obviously must be able to discern whether some random phone on some stand aimed in her general direction must mean that its a picture in progress, which she is blocking? Surely its not possible that it would be lets say some timelapse photo? Surely it cant be anything fucking else as far as she is concerned, and that her brain didnt run the whatsthephonepurpose.exe function deeply enough? /s

She was already reaching to her phone well before she stopped, what looked like intentional blocking of the photo when she sidestepped was obviously to let the passerbys pass, and she was not able to see the girl behind her either way.

Is it possible that she did this deliberately? Yes. Is it something that can be proven beyond reasonable doubt that she did that deliberately? Absolutely not.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

-1

u/Aicethegamer Aug 30 '26

Rage bait ahh comment

-2

u/pylond Aug 30 '26

What?? She looked and positioned herself to block the young lady. This has malice AND intent written all over it.

3

u/EntertainerSuper8933 Aug 30 '26

I just disagree. I don't even think she was particularly aware of the lady who passed her on the stairs. Out of sight out of mind. And then she sees someone below or some kind of tripod rig for selfies, but it doesn't even register on her face at all. She looks blankly, steps aside for people coming up, finishes her phone business and moves on. At most, she delayed lady's selfie by what, 30 seconds? Calm down, y'all

0

u/pylond Aug 30 '26

That would be ignorance. She was ignorant of her surroundings. Again something I was taught, by a woman of this woman’s generation, to be aware of at all times. So at best she was ignorant of her surroundings resulting in her actions being wrong and at worst she intentionally blocked the camera. Considering she LOOKS AT THE CAMERA and positions herself in a way that blocks the young woman I gotta say it’s the latter scenario. Either way old woman is in the wrong while young lady was very co signage of what was going on around her and waited for an opportunity where she wasn’t disturbing anyone.

2

u/EntertainerSuper8933 Aug 30 '26

Ignorant is exactly right. She has no idea that she is doing anything wrong

1

u/Glad_Landscape2177 Aug 31 '26

The museum has a no video and no tripod rule. So not very good awareness and still very much in the wrong.

2

u/Lyrael9 Aug 30 '26

She was pulling her phone out of her pocket before she looked at the camera. She clearly just didn't know and why would she.

The young woman wasn't doing anything wrong, but it was a bit clueless. It looks busy and people just aren't going to notice, they're looking at the art and living their own lives. If there was a person holding the phone for the photograph it might have been more obvious what was going on.

2

u/Few-Mall-8263 Aug 30 '26

She was pulling her phone out before she saw the camera. I think this old lady was just taking her time in an art museum... which is kind of what you're supposed to do.

2

u/baitones Aug 30 '26

She wasn’t blocking the photo she just didn’t care

1

u/youngintel Aug 30 '26

I currently date someone who takes their own photos like this all the time (usually with their back cameras so its even more inapparent). You’re severely misunderstanding how many people are actually aware of someone randomly dropping their phone and walking off is them filming themselves - let alone a 50/60 year old woman. Ive seen it a million times, half the people look at the phone confusingly unaware of the person standing off in the distance before going about their business.

She moved from oncoming foot traffic and then proceeded forward when sensing foot traffic approaching from behind like most people do when messing with their phone in the middle of an active walkway. Not everybody is approaching the world through the lens of constant social media content creation.

1

u/FUNKANATON Aug 30 '26

might not have been obvious to the non selfie generation

1

u/jules-amanita Aug 30 '26

Stopping in the middle of a public staircase to look at your phone is rude/potentially dangerous regardless of the photo. Get out of the way and then look at your phone. This is like the geezers who walk into the grocery store and then stop right inside the entrance to pull up their coupons.

1

u/Icy_Account6442 Aug 31 '26

I don’t know, she literally was going to pull her phone of her pocket before she looked at the phone. She didn’t seem to notice the girl putting it there. Now the phone position could have made her decide to be an asshole and block the shot or maybe she just thought it was weird. I think her moving out of the way of the people though was 100% valid. As a result she blocked the frame.

On another notes isn’t it wild that this brief encounter has spawned another reality. That lady could just have forgotten she saw the phone because she’s old 😂. Social media really is wild.

Okay Karen.

-63

u/Blue_Swirling_Bunny Aug 30 '26

...for the purpose of "influencing" which will then cause followers to overrun the place. White hair is a hero.

34

u/mothje Aug 30 '26

I agree, how dares she, influencing people to go look at art.

2

u/Accountformorrowind Aug 30 '26

Thank God for phone women telling me what I should find interesting

5

u/blzrlzr Aug 30 '26

Art is meant to be consumed by the privileged so they can understand the struggle of the masses. Not for the masses to think they can achieve privilege.

4

u/Next-Value9507 Aug 30 '26

Not sure if sarcasm or ......

4

u/Capable_Pineapple993 Aug 30 '26

How tf is this being upvoted lmao

0

It’s a joke

1

u/Capable_Pineapple993 Aug 31 '26

Well I don’t understand jokes

0

u/mothje Aug 31 '26

We would've never guessed.

-1

u/kmcmanus2814 Aug 30 '26

Because it’s obviously satire?

5

u/yipy2001 Aug 30 '26

Art has many purposes, and is not confined to your understanding of it.

1

u/blzrlzr Aug 30 '26

Ya man, I know. This would be an insane take if I were serious.

2

u/Flurmpy_ Aug 30 '26

Poe's law, friend

9

u/Next-Value9507 Aug 30 '26

Oh no, a museum makes more money. God forbid we support the arts and the places they're kept for viewing and restoration, even at the behest of someone taking a picture of themselves.

2

u/Centerpeel Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

For what it's worth... My wife and I went to a concert and this girl was in attendance. My wife, out of nowhere, starts speaking with her in Portuguese. Im like how does she know this person? My wife had just moved here to the states. My wife started telling her how much she helped her through college because this girl does educational content and my wife consumed a lot of it when she was in university.

Shes not really an influencer in the way you are alluding to. Her name is Débora Aladim.

What does touching grass have to do with someone setting up a tripod on a staircase?

5

u/craige22 Aug 30 '26

Since when taking selfies in a museum annoying now?

-1

u/SteveMarck Aug 30 '26

It's not just a selfie though, you don't need to set up a tripod for that. She's doing the influencer thing where she thinks she owns the public space.

1

u/SensualMortician Aug 30 '26

Incel response.

0

u/SteveMarck Aug 30 '26

Nope. Happily married. Nice try though.

1

u/SensualMortician Aug 30 '26

Married but out here dunking on young women doing normal shit. Bet your wife is proud of you.

0

u/SteveMarck Aug 30 '26

Influencer nonsense should not be normalized.

1

u/SensualMortician Aug 30 '26

Have people not been setting up tri pods to take pictures at the eiffel tower, the Vatican, statue of liberty, and holy shit, even art galleries for ages? You have beef with young people doing it, and thats weird, because you forgot an entirely common use of a camera just to shit on someone.

56

u/Old_Instrument_Guy Aug 30 '26

This is the stair at Inveraray Castle. I have been here. The older woman stopped on a landing half way down the stair. The other girl propped her phone against a planter that sits in an opening to the Main Hall of the house.

Here is a photo from the lower landing looking back to where the camera was propped and the woman stopped to diddle with her phone. I have no doubt she saw the phone sitting there, but most likely she thought, "Nonna my business why that phone is there." Like most people she was engrossed in what she was doing and not why the phone was there

Also, this is the only stair to the upper level so it's heavily trafficked. The home is still privately owned and the family reside in the other half of the house.

21

u/Dizzlean Aug 30 '26

I chalk this up to a Generational Gap.

The older woman was just oblivious of what was happening, as are most Boomers.

The younger girl was too timid to confront the older woman and politely ask if she could move out of the picture shot, as are most Zoomers.

5

u/Effective-Sample-261 Aug 30 '26

Nope.  You can see the moment at 0:09 where she looks directly at the camera (i.e phone) which I'm sure was in selfie mode so she could see herself in it.  Only then does she start futzing about on her phone.  It was entirely intentional.

1

u/konakonayuki Aug 30 '26

she had probably just been desperately tapping her phone to open gmail, stopped at the landing, looked at the camera, then realised she accidentally started calling her old boss from 2009 and decided figuring out her own phone first was more imperative

1

u/Icy_Account6442 Aug 31 '26

What if the phone was turned around to use the back camera?

1

u/Effective-Sample-261 Aug 31 '26

Even if it was (which is doubtful) you can still see her directly look at it more than once (from 0:09 to 0:12) and only then stop right in front of it.

3

u/DR_Bright_963 Aug 30 '26

OH its THIS castle! I love this castle only seen it from a distance in passing, It looks beautiful and IMO what a castle should look like.

13

u/Laurelindorinan_ Aug 30 '26

Yup. People pretending that this is a deliberate diss are clueless.🤣

3

u/El_Lanf Aug 30 '26

Honestly I'd probably lean more on the side she did on purpose after seeing that as there's not much point stopping to stare a planter. She probably was watching the lass setting up before the recording started and might have taken umbrage with it for whatever reason. Scottish castles like this (but not all) are just glorified stately homes tbh and increasingly tourist traps, they're not exactly great centres of reverence and getting some nice photos is half the purpose of visiting.

1

u/BigGillySuit Aug 30 '26

Stop INFLUENCING! /s

1

u/SoVerySleepyZzZz Aug 30 '26

She obviously didn’t stop on that landing lol, the landing is 9 steps down and you can see she only walked down 5.

1

u/Old_Instrument_Guy Aug 30 '26

good eye. Thank you for the clarification. My point remains. This does not seem intentional.

0

u/TheDoodler2024 Aug 30 '26

From the site of Inveraray Castle: You are welcome to take photos inside the Castle using small cameras or mobile phones for personal use only. No tripods, selfie sticks, flash photography, or video recording is permitted inside the Castle.

So maybe the old woman wasn’t aware, or she WAS aware that the young woman was recording a video, or that she was using a tripod.

In any case, RECORDING A VIDEO WAS NOT ALLOWED.

2

u/Old_Instrument_Guy Aug 30 '26

She was definitely not using a tripod. You can actually see a piece of the shelf in the video. It was propped up against the planter. I'm not saying the girl today anything wrong. I'm not saying the old lady did anything wrong. I think this is a matter of just two people doing two different things and neither of them was aware of what the other was doing

65

u/Intrepid_Ad1715 Aug 30 '26

Who the hell stops on stairs to mess around with their phone? She did this intentionally.

10

u/jpatt Aug 30 '26

At an art museum I’ll often pull up quick bios on different artists or look up different pieces backgrounds. No one else was on the stairs at the time she started.

21

u/Jason-Smith168498 Aug 30 '26

I'm going to admit I've stopped on stairs to mess with my phone

13

u/Old_Instrument_Guy Aug 30 '26

I have been in this stairwell and I confess, I stopped on this stair to mess with my phone. It's the stair at Inveraray Castle in Scotland. The girl taking the selphie has her phone propped up against a planter. There is also a small but which may be what caught the other woman's eye.

1

u/VividlyVividViv Aug 30 '26

Why do you keep trying to defend this rude person's actions? It's quite obvious that she blocked the camera on purpose.

19

u/icanruinyourlife Aug 30 '26

Who stops on stairs to mess around with their phone? Are u kidding me? People are on their phones all the time. No one gives a fuck anymore

2

u/Aznboz Aug 30 '26

Stairs? Red Light? Non-Red Lights in motion? At the cash register while someone asking you what you want? No one truly gives a damn.

Big population of us are always glued on the phone.

16

u/Late_While_6220 Aug 30 '26

And believe it or not, there's no trial, no jury no nothing. Straight to jail.

3

u/EntertainerSuper8933 Aug 30 '26

People stop wherever they are when they get a call or message, I have noticed

2

u/Toadcola Aug 30 '26

Maybe an old person who is double checking that she’s seen everything she wanted to upstairs before going the rest of the way down, because it’s been a long ass day and once she’s back on the first floor she ain’t going up again.

2

u/poopydingdong123 Aug 30 '26

Who the hell stops on stairs to set up a phone to take a selfie?

What the young girl did is far more strange than what the old lady did lmfao 🤣

2

u/Good_Zookeepergame92 Aug 30 '26

You'd be surprised I can't stand coming off the subway and people can't put their phones down just to go up the steps.

That being said, this was definitely intentional.

1

u/Educational-Slide190 Aug 31 '26

Who the hell stops on stairs to mess around with their phone?

Isn't that question a bit ironic, considering someone literally set up a phone to film on the stairs?

-1

u/exodusofficer Aug 30 '26

She looks straight at the camera. She knows what she is doing. What a bitter sad hag of a person the old lady is. The young woman wasn't being obnoxious or inappropriate, she was just getting a shot of herself while the scene was relatively clear. That ghoul ruined it out of spite.

1

u/poopydingdong123 Aug 30 '26

She doesn’t even know the silly selfie girl exists, let alone she set it up to take a selfie.

Shes old, she prob doesn’t even know you can take timed photos with a phone, or that it’s a thing kids do.

-1

u/exodusofficer Aug 30 '26

Really? You don't think she can see the phone screen, the one that displays what the camera is looking at? She stares directly at it for more than long enough to know what's going on. She sees herself and the young woman on the screen. She repeatedly moves to reposition herself to block the young woman as the young woman moves around behind her to try to get a good shot. Do you even know how phone cameras work?

1

u/poopydingdong123 Aug 30 '26

You all are something else

She didn’t see who set it up, she never turned around to see who the camera was set up for or who was posing, she’s an old lady that has trouble moving and stopped to check her phone and moved to let people walk by. Also most importantly not every old person understands social media and how much young kids obsess over it and post idiotic selfies. She saw a phone and was probably thinking wow some idiot lost their phone

You all are crashing out over a little old lady 🤣

1

u/cjameson83 Aug 30 '26

Nah, common. No one stops in the middle of the stairs. That's not including the fact she looks right at the phone. She didn't move out of the people's way and move on down like a normal person, she kept waiting in the same plain of view as the phones camera. It couldn't be more obvious she did that on purpose.

3

u/13thgeneral Aug 30 '26

No one stops in the middle of stairs? You even been to a museum or aquarium or any venue with stairs? People ALWAYS stop on the stairs, usually oblivious or uncourteous to other people around them. However, in this instance, the older woman appears to be waiting for other people to come up the stairs before she can proceed down, likely because those people were blocking the stairs. She checked her phone while waiting, saw the camera but doesn't appear to even consider why it's there... and then just leaves when the people pass.
If she was trying to be a jerk you'd think she'd hang around longer to ruin the shot, and be a pain. The girl taking the photo can just take another now that everyone has passed by.
No worries.

So many people read fantasy into everything, get mad about it, and can't pull themselves out into reality for five seconds to think about it rationally.
The real big thing I see here that makes me pause is this girl deciding to post this online anyway... why, for what reason? Outrage click clout? Or is there more context there, too?

2

u/cjameson83 Aug 30 '26

What are you talking about? The older woman clearly sees the phone and stops. If she was worried about being in the way for the people coming up, she would have moved over and out of their way sooner or not stopped in that position in the first place. She didn't need to wait longer. She waited a while and had plenty of time to be comfortable with her actions, especially at the end when there were now a bunch of people in the way when there wasn't before. She waited long enough to make sure she didn't have to keep standing there to mess up the pic/recording. Funny she didn't move on sooner right? Or stop where she wouldn't be in a walk way? Good Lord it's so obvious she stopped in front of the camera on purpose that it's painful to think anyone would think otherwise. All it's missing is the older woman making some comments about it to the camera or other woman.

1

u/13thgeneral Sep 01 '26

You're reading way too much into her actions through a biased third party lens

4

u/Old_Instrument_Guy Aug 30 '26

There is a landing in the stair where she stopped. This is the stair at Invararay Castle.

1

u/Flurmpy_ Aug 30 '26

0

How many people are so addicted to their phones that they are gonna stop and fiddle with it in the middle of some stairs? Plus she could have been blocking the path of anyone else wanting to come down. This is absolutely intentional

All signs indicate she was intentionally blocking a shot. Looks directly at the camera before deciding to stop in that specific spot and fiddle with her phone.

Saying she coincidentally got a text at that exact moment is the only assumption I'm seeing lmao

This! People keep saying she purposely moved to block her shot but she didn’t, she got out of the way cause people were coming upstairs.

She did stop and look at the camera but while she thought the camera being there was odd she didn’t realize it belonged to the girl behind her, so she forgot about it and went about her business checking her phone.

1

u/DookieShoez Aug 30 '26

Its a buncha young people who wannna be angry at old people up in here fam, lol.

Right? How tf she supposed to know who’s phone it is?
