This has probably been done to death, but I feel like this video has a pretty good message in relation to what I've been seeing in some of this sub.

That being;

I don't think it's our place to care about whether or not Shen is cis, a repressing trans person, or some secret third option.

I'm sure those telling him to stop "repping" aren't doing it out of genuine malice. They probably just don't want someone to go through what they must have on their way to finding their true selves.

Yet my point still stands.

Whatever he is, it's HIS BUSINESS. Leave mothafuckas alone.

It also kills people, for exactly the same reasons. You are placing an identity onto people who do not accept that identity. It's a gamble, you're banking on the fact that they eventually will. I don't think we should be giving chemotherapy to everyone who comes into a doctor's office with a cough, just because it "saves lives", that's a terrible justification

It isn't your life when you do it to others, maybe "I don't give a single fuck" isn't the right mentality to have?

Show me a single instance where egg culture forced anyone into a medical transition and not just pushed them into exploring a social transition and maybe talk to a therapist about it...

That's not what I said.... at all...

Egg culture is literally an act of misgendering. You don't think misgendering kills people? You are choosing to ignore the identity that someone is presenting to you in order to impose your own idea of what their identity should be, that can seriously, seriously fuck someone up, and I think you know that, you're just only thinking about it in one direction

There are better alternatives to egg culture, you just presented 2 of your own. Egg culture is gross, regressive, and unnecessary

Egg culture is literally saying "I used to think/do this now I'm a girl". You're conflating things.

I'm "choosing" to notice the patterns I've displayed once, talk about it with other people who displayed exactly the same pattern and then just sit there and think "aaaany minute now".

I think you and I don't have the same definition of egg culture.

There are two words in that phrase. We aren't talking about eggs, we're talking about egg culture. That's not recognising patterns in yourself, that's applying those patterns to other people, that is literally, by definition, what makes it a culture, and that's the behavior people are referring to when they use that phrase

Us having two definitions of the term doesn't mean that both are valid. But I also don't think our definitions are actually as different as you're pretending, absolutely nothing you've described so far is in line with just saying "I used to think/do this now I'm a girl", that's such a disingenuous framing

Ok let me clarify what I said. What I do os observe another person's patterns and recognize these patters as the same as the ones I displayed and sharing those observation with people who also recognize thoae patterns in that other person that thwy themselves displayed before.

Nothing I described so far? Do you know exactly what I'm doing when I'm practicing egg culture in the case of Shen? I share comics with my friends and we say in DM or IRL during brunch that we can't wait for the coming out day.

Also, I need to add, again, that without that "gross, regressive and unnecessary" culture I would have been dead 9 years ago.

Technically I was dead for 3 minutes in 2017, but without that culture that forcibly cracked my egg I wouldn't have stopped at that attempt.

i did keep reading. i have yet to hear how being told "you should consider transition", or even a more aggressive "you are [X gender] and you NEED to transition" could lead to someone being killed. because the thing about transition is that if it feels bad, you can simply stop, and literally the entire medical, legal and media ecosystem will wholeheartedly support you in this endeavor.

meanwhile i personally know of several cases of the exact opposite, where other trans ppl have confided that if they were not reached out to by their friends/the broader community and told "i have felt the same things you're saying you're feeling, you should consider transition", they would have killed themselves.

expressing distaste for assuming the intimate details of a specific microcelebrity's life? fine. i'm not terribly fond of that parasocial bullshit anyway - if you do not know someone personally, you are unlikely to have much to say abt their gender that will be valuable to them. talking about "egg culture" in general "getting people killed"? that's just fearmongering, and it's fearmongering with a remarkably similar tenor to the people talking about "trans groomers Endangering Our Kids".

By that logic, there's no harm in misgendering a pretranistion trans person either, because they can just start transitioning and it will stop

If you don't feel like an egg, and you have an entire group of people who are calling you the wrong gender despite you denying it, do you really not see how that can be harmful? This is literally just misgendering but in the other direction. The direction isn't what makes misgendering shitty

The person you're defending misgendered shen twice btw. That's a real person, not a fictional character. But I guess they matter less to you if they turn out to be cis? I don't base my valuation on people's with on whether or not they're trans, misgendering is misgendering, and I'm really not going to entertain this conversation any further
