And Just Like That... We Have New Rules
For starters I want to apologize for the lack of moderation that has been going on around here. There are only two of us active mods and both of us are going through big life transitions right now. We have talked recently and will be more active now that the new show is premiering.
Speaking of the new show we will be implementing a weekly watch discussion. The discussion will take place on r/Andjustlikethat starting tonight at midnight PST. We ask that all discussions pertaining to the new show take place on the new subreddit. Posts on this subreddit will be removed if a spoiler tag is not used or if the headline contains a spoiler.
Finally we ask that users continue to be respectful towards each other. There's been an influx of reports of bullying including some exaggerated reports. This subreddit is a safe space for all Sex and the City fans and racism, misogyny, and harassment in general will not be tolerated. The person who recently started drama has deleted their account so there's not much more we can do. If you feel you are being the target of harassment please report the comment AND send us a ModMail so that we can react quickly.
Thank you for making the subreddit a fun place and we look forward to watching the new show with you all.

Have Carrie haters watched this episode?
Carrie haters always go on and on about how Carrie was so selfish to make Charlotte's engagement all about herself or how Carrie thinks her own news are more important than Charlotte's but that is not what happened.Ā
When Carrie arrives at the lunch, the other three women are already sitting at the table. Carrie is the one who says she has news to tell to which Charlotte then says she has news too and continues to tell her friends about her engagement(even though Carrie was the one who first said she had something to tell). If it was the other way around and Carrie had interrupted Charlotte and continued on with her own news, people would be at her throat for being selfish. But since it was Carrie who got interrupted and talked over, it's no biggie apparently.Ā
Charlotte shows her friends her ring ja they all gush about it and the engagement. Yes, even Carrie. It was Samantha's offhanded comment on how the second engagement ring looks better than the first one that flustered Charlotte which in turn then made her ask Carrie about her news. Before being asked, Carrie had been focused on Charlotte's news.Ā
So after being asked, Carrie tells them how Berger broke up with her via a post-it note. She was feeling down and frustrated about the whole relationship. To her, the relationship felt like a complete waste of time. Charlotte then tells her that nothing is complete waste of time and everything happens for a reason. She uses her engagement to Harry as proof of this. Without marrying Trey, she wouldn't have met Harry and gotten engaged to him. She shows her engagement ring again and this is where Carrie says paper beats rock and puts the note on the ring. She wasn't trying to diminish Charlotte's happiness over the engagement(it's Charlotte who was diminishing how Carrie should feel about the break up) and it was a reply to Charlotte's naive optimism. How would you guys feel when you tell your friends something bad has happened and your friend started to argue with you because they believe everything happens for a reason?Ā
Carrie also later consoles Charlotte when is was feeling sad. Charlotte really wanted to celebrate her engagement with her friends but didn't feel it would be appropriate since it was her second one so Carrie told her she can do whatevever she wants and lifted Charlotte's spirits up.

Carrie loved the chase just as much as Big did.
A lot of influencers who decode the attachment styles and behaviour of characters on SATC seem to focus on how Big only loved Carrie when he couldnāt have her, but Iād argue that also exactly why Carrie loved Big. When she had Aiden who was wholly committed to her and wanted to marry her, it clearly gave her the ick. I donāt even think she regretted cheating all that much. The only reason she was so obsessed with Big is because he always held her at armās length. They had chemistry and their moments but frankly, it definitely wasnāt some cinematic love story that justified wanting him that badly.
I think she wanted to believe that she wanted Big to commit to her and love her fully, but if he ever had (and I donāt even think she felt totally secure when they were married), she wouldāve started to lose interest.

Is it weird that I love this episode?
Like not the whole leaving money thing. Just like Carrie having this kinda dreamy day with a foreigner, idk something about it. And then Charlotte showing her painting. Yeah one of my favorites

OH EM GEE CARRIE NEEDS TO GET OVER NATASHA!!!
And just like that⦠Carrie finds a way to slither back into Natashaās life because of something that she literally has no control over. Her obsession with Natasha is just so over the top cringeworthy. GIRL!! Natasha blocked you on Instagram, she blocked you on email, get the hint. Leave the poor woman alone!!! bad enough she ripped up her marriage without any remorse because of course Carrie had to turn it into something about herself. And you know from what I remember, the only reason she went all over New York hunting down Natasha in season 3 of SATC is because of her own steaming pile of bullshit worries that sheās getting her karma. No guilt, no bad feelings about what she did to Natasha⦠all she ever cared about was āoh my God people hate me and I donāt know whyyyy waaaahhhh!!!ā Sorry but I just had to say this. Maybe Big left something for Natasha because he actually felt bad about what he did to her. Something that Carrie will never understand.

I finished it all in a month
In the past month, I watched sex and the city original series, 2 films and AJLT.
It was a fun journey but honestly AJLT felt like such npc series, the only great thing about it was that seeing some events after 20 years, for example Aiden and Carrie getting back together after 20 years, felt like a time machine. But Samanthaās absence was a huge disappointment and at some point I started feeling like they were trying to replace Samantha with Seema which I disliked.
In SATC every episode had its own valuable message, but in the films and in AJLT, it felt like it was made just to make something out of SATC.
AJLT felt so much different than SATC, it was like they were changing the chemistry of characters just to make more drama, and find more topics. I really wished the series stayed the same in AJLT, i mean i wish Samantha was included, and they were living their lives the same but 20 years later, like a literal time machine.
Edit: I remember the first two episodes of SATC, at the end of the episode 2 there was a saxophone playing after Mr big said āabso-f-lutelyā, when Carrie said āhave you ever been in love? Thats what I want to remember SATC with!

Typing the SATC Girls Using MBTI, Enneagram, and Instinctual Variants (Thoughts + Feedback Welcomed!)
Hi everyone :) Iām on what is likely my 50th rewatch of the show (itās such good comfort TV) and, as someone who used to research personality matrices as a hobby in my teens, Iāve been thinking more about how all the SATC characters would fall under these different systems. After fleshing it out, these are the conclusions I came to and I decided to share them!
I will preface by saying that, as someone whoās a former frequenter of personality forums and works as a practicing therapist, I do have a robust understanding of these systems and feel (humbly) confident about my analyses. However, I also acknowledge that āpersonalityā is something much more abstract and fluid that exists beyond any tangible definition and āidentityā is something that is highly culturally contextual - someone who may be considered an extrovert in Asia may not be considered so in North America, and so on. To that end, I donāt see these systems as arbiters of truth about how we operate as humans, but rather as fun springboards to facilitate thoughts and reflections about ourselves, each other, and media. And also, despite my relative confidence, I welcome any thoughts or feedback because thereās always room for discussion, conversation, and differing ideas.
To add context as to how I make my deductions, I usually go off of Interaction Styles since those are more easily identifiable to narrow down possible MBTI types (since each of the four interaction styles is theorized to correspond with four different MBTI types each). I also am moderately familiar with Jungian Cognitive Functions (Fe vs. Fi, Se vs. Si, etc), but I try to not get too hung up on them because ultimately the most empirically supported facets of MBTI are the simple dichotomies of F vs. T, J vs. P, etc as theyāve been shown to statistically correlate with the Big Five.
With all that said, letās get into it⦠(Iāll start with the two more decisive girls because theyāre less contradictory and work my way up to the two more indecisive girls whose typings feel a bit more elusive)
Samantha: ESTP 7w8 sp/sx
Samantha is a clear ESTP 7w8 to me. She absolutely has an In Charge interaction style, which narrows the options down to ESTJ, ESTP, ENFJ, and ENTJ. Samantha is straight-shooting and prefers objectivity to romantic ideals, but sheās also excitable and driven by the desire for invigorating experiences. Given her daring and exploratory nature, I think ESTP fits the bill - the only Perceiving type that also embodies an In Charge interaction style. As for Enneagram, you could make a case for 8w7 instead of 7w8, because Samantha definitely enjoys power, control, and challenging others, but I feel thatās more of an accent in her personality rather than the primary drive. 7ās core fear is boredom, lack of stimulation, and deprivation, and I feel Samantha is highly driven by the need for constant gratification.
As for instinctual variants, I think you could make a case for sx/sp due to the ways in which she vigorously pursues intense and passionate experiences, but I think her guardedness and almost pathological aversion to vulnerability (which takes a while to be cracked open, even in cases like Richard or Smith) reflects that self-protection is her ultimate priority - sheās willing to cap off an intense experience if it means that sheāll be able to walk away unscathed. She clearly has an so-blindspot due to her irreverence for etiquette, harmony, and social norms, so sp/sx and sx/sp feel like the only options here.
Charlotte: ESFJ 2w3 so/sx
MBTI-wise, this may be the most unanimously agreed upon typing. Charlotte is basically a caricature of an ESFJ. Sometimes she can be shy and timid, but I think ultimately she is a pretty clear extrovert with her bubbly, charming, and socialite nature - indicating she has a Get Things Going interaction style and ruling out ISFJ. She is traditional, idealistic, and family-oriented. ESFJ is also the only Judging type that falls under the Get Things Going interaction style, and Charlotte is clearly a Judging type re: her proclivity for organization and rules. She is not a robot or a sheep, but she does see the fundamental merit of many social values and uses them to inform her own belief system.
Enneagram-wise, I think you could make a case for 3w2 over 2w3, because she is image-conscious and driven by success, but I do think she ultimately prioritizes being loved over being impressive to others. Using Harmonic Triads, Charlotte also very much reads more as a Positive Outlook type than a Competency type. Instinctual Variant-wise, you could argue so/sp over so/sx as she has a pragmatic and disciplined side to her, but I think she is more well-connected to her passionate side and does not either neglect or avoid it. She also sometimes has a tendency to be reckless and get into relationships without much consideration for the practicality of the dynamic, likely reflecting an sp-blindspot. But, aside from being clearly so-dominant, she is relatively balanced here.
Miranda: ISTJ 1w9 sp/so
Miranda is tricky to me. IMO she does have a clear Chart the Course interaction style, being pragmatic and measured but not loudly assertive and domineering. She also is a clear Judging type to me, but that still leaves us between INTJ and ISTJ (I rule out INFJ as I donāt see her as a Feeling type at all). S vs. N is a hard nuance to discern, especially because she can often be depicted as both a big-picture thinker and also as a straightforward and uncomplicated thinker. Iām going with ISTJ because, while she has a definite propensity and capability for abstraction and conceptualization, I donāt believe this is her immediate proclivity - to me, she seems more inclined to process things in a simple and straightforward manner unless prompted to do otherwise (often by Carrie).
Her Enneagram also supports ISTJ to me. I think Miranda is definitely an Enneagram 1, which is more often correlated with ISTJ than INTJ (whereas INTJ is more correlated with Enneagram 5). Mirandaās fundamental desire doesnāt seem to be knowledge and intellect the way an Enneagram 5ās is - instead, she expects perfection from herself. Her main narratives revolve around her rigidity and perfectionism, indicating Enneagram 1 to me. I think you could argue 1w2 over 1w9, but I think people can read women as more 2ish because of the ways theyāre inherently encouraged to prioritize desirability and relationships. Ultimately, I think Miranda prioritizes her own peace of mind more than being likable or lovable - sheās shown to be the most sluggish and homebody-ish (in her free time) of the four women. You could also argue Enneagram 6 (6w5 probably) because she can be reactive and self-protective, but I think her rigidity keeps her less frantic and erratic than a typical 6 who are more consumed by their insecurity.
In terms of Instinctual Variants, sp/so makes the most sense to me. She handles her responsibilities and is structured/highly disciplined. She pays attention to etiquette and social harmony, but is not consumed by it either. What she neglects are her passions and desires, which are so bottled up that they explode in inopportune moments like with Steve as theyāre dating other people or in AJLT when she has a full-on midlife crisis.
Carrie: ENFP 6w7 sx/so
Now hereās the biggest curveball. Carrie is a tough one to nail down - likely because we get to look into her life the most intimately of all the four women and her contradictions start to become more apparent because of it. I also recognize, as ENFP is a very popular type of today (I identify as one myself) and also being critical of Carrieās behavior is a popular stance to take on the show today, this typing may be divisive. However, I do think this typing is justifiable.
Thankfully, Carrieās interaction style is still clear - Get Things Going. She is bubbly, engaging, charming, and lively - she does have a clear extroverted nature but does not assume as dominant of a role in social dynamics as Samantha. We can rule out ENTP because she does seem more led by her values and feelings rather than her logic and pragmatism. Now, the difficult part is that I could see ESFP, ESFJ, and ENFP all making sense in different ways (any ExFx type is believable). But looking at her lifestyle, which is more whimsical and spontaneous and unstructured ($40k on shoes!), I think we can add a P over J in there. Now for S vs. N, this is difficult because writing, thinking, and theorizing about relationships is her JOB, but I do think this highlights at the end of the day that she is inquisitive, curious, and always open to exploring new ideas - regardless of the stance she maintains herself. She processes in roundabout ways rather than straightforward ways, which to me signals Ne dominance rather than Se dominance. The rest of the girls being Sensing types especially makes sense in the context of the show, as all of them serve a purpose of offering their more straightforward perspectives that inform Carrieās subsequent hypothesizing and self-questioning.
I think her Enneagram type is more clear. While she is always in the pursuit of love (a very 2-esque mission), I think she suits a Head type more than a Heart type because her main preoccupation seems to be anxiety rather than shame. 6 to me makes sense, as sheās neither fixated on intellect (5) or hedonism (7), although a 7 wing makes much more sense than a 5 wing. What she really seems to crave is security (at least relationally), which becomes apparent not just with her romances but even with her friends when they go to Atlantic City. 6 is also often thought to have the most universal and āhumanā struggles, as we all desire some form of safety and security no matter which way we project it, and since Carrie is the primary protagonist I think this typing speaks to the way she was written as well.
Instinct Variant-wise, I think her sp-blindspot is the most evident. Sheās impulsive and doesnāt prioritize sustainability (again, $40k on shoes!) so self-preservation does not really seem the most important to her. I could go either way on sx/so or so/sx, especially because she doesnāt carry herself with an āintensityā that sx/so types are thought to embody. But ultimately, I think her pursuit of passion is what preoccupies her the most and what continues to lead her into trouble. I donāt think sheās necessarily as plagued by a need for harmony and pleasantries the same way Charlotte is, in contrast.
And thatās the end! At least for my opinions thus far. Again, this is meant to be a conversation and not a verdict, so I welcome anyone who has thoughts or wants to chime in. Also, for anyone curious what position of bias I might be coming from, I identify as an ENFP 7w6 so/sx and my favorite character/character I identify with most is Charlotte. I hope, if anything, this was a fun read for yāall!

Canāt watch SATC without being reminded of my ex
Does anyone else have this problem? šš he was an Aiden at his best, but Berger at his worst (which was more often than not). It makes some episodes totally unwatchable now!!!!! Hopefully that changes lol
