Meme/Humor Playing Woodland Alliance is so cool
I usually don't play them, but I have played them today and feels good to have this many actions
Ignore the game, it's cursed

In the last year or so, me and a couple of my buddies have started to play Root pretty regularly. We were only playing the base game for a while, but through some luck, we recently got the homeland, riverfolk, and marauders expansions, all within about a week. Going from 4 to 11 options has been fun, but we learned that not all combos are balanced. I know theres the whole "reach calculator" and even suggested combos in the rulebooks, but even they arent always helpful or insightful. What are some fun trios you guys have discovered? What made them fun?
One example we stumbled on was the birds, badgers, and otters. The otters ability to help move the other two factions specifically was really helpful and counting the otters toward the badgers ruling was a game changer for claiming relics. The game felt really close the whole way and we definitely want to try that one again.

All promises and deals are non-binding of course, but have you guys even made deals between someone else without the rest of the table knowing what you discussed? Like using a piece of paper and passing it folded to that person, or just DM each other. I feel this is more of a Diplomacy thing, but wonder what methods do you use for one-on-one deals.

I'm still learning how to play, but I've really fallen in love with the Vagabond! I'm trying to get used to different strategies, like doing quests with the Thief, but I'd really like to learn how to play the Ranger.
I can never quite tell when I should start attacking, which items I should prioritize, and things like that.
Any tips are welcome!

I've read through the rules a few times, and I don't see any rules that say captains can't share a Forrest or a clearing. But under "follow me" it says acting captains can only move skunk warriors. So are acting captains allowed to move into clearings and forests with another captain? And would non-active captains be unable to move with the active captains? If you move a captain to a clearing with another captain, and then initiate an attack, does the non active captain add to rolled hits?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Lots of Root in the Bay Area this week in SF, Palo Alto, and San Jose. We’ve also played in Redwood City, Berkeley, and Oakland, with lots of Homeland! Hope to see you there, more details below:

(Also mods could we get an IRL Meet-ups flair? I think it would be helpful and maybe encourage more people to start local Root meet-ups!)

Deluxe clearings, mats, E&P, landmarks, Marauder hirelings, Riverfolk (+ hirelings), Clockwork 2, Riverfolk, Underworld (+ hirelings), all available to NA now

Hello. I like the hirelings, and I think they look cool, but I'm not the biggest fan of the hireling mechanic, and really, it'd just be cool to get to play as them in some sort of faction, ya know? I can't seem to find any fan factions that use them, so if anyone knows of any, please inform me
(I do think using them as NPCs for the ROOT RPG is also a possible fun idea)

I’m looking for some new board games to get and Ahoy has grabbed my attention at the moment, I know it’s made by Leder games so I am wondering if it’s as good as root.
Thanks!

Is it correct that Woodland Alliance can’t revolt anymore as soon as the three bases are on the board?
Hard to win with these guys or what are we missing? You only get (few) points by spreading sympathy and you aren’t a big military force, too.
The birds and cats seem to be much more powerful.

How does crafting with the knaves work? I don’t understand the part about “craft with it and matching acclaims”. Does it mean that if you have an acclaim in a mouse clearing and you use the hammer you can activate all mouse acclaims?

I am one of the people who are disappointed that Vagabond replacement faction doesn't have a way to interact with ruins. But it seems that you can easily add it by slightly homebrewing it. There are problems with this, mainly allowing Knaves to get to 10 items by default but maybe it could be limited somewhat(let's say you need to discard a matching card for it). Do you have any ideas how balanced it is?

I got into root pretty heavy over this past year but learning new factions can be pretty tricky without having guides. The way I learned most factions was playing the tutorial on the root app. I haven’t been able to find a video guide or written guides about the homeland factions. How did you guys go about learning them and have you found a guide that has helped you?

I play the movie version with bots. So far, if there's an Arberter vagabond they will 100% and it's not even close. I'll have clearings with 2-3 buildings and 3-5 warriors that they'll completely destroy in one turn, to say nothing of the early removal of my stronghold.
Is it possible to beat them, or are those games always going to be a wash?

Played a game with them against the WA and was wondering if they trigger outrage by moving into a clearing?
Also, do they get removed during a revolt? We said yes, but I just want to double check.

I've got a friend that mains the WA, but I'm not sure how to police them properly to stop them scoring points, like destroying sympathy gives them more things to spread etc. any tips would be much appreciated

In Root Digital async games, when your opponent has to make an optional decision, such as Ambush, use Partisans, etc, the turn passes to them to resolve the effect. When playing against the Bats, almost every player will be Entreating and possibly multiple times per turn, and the turn will pass to the Bat player every time to choose whether to gain a Loyalist or place Loyalists. I think probably most annoying for a bat player, who will get notifications every time they have to make a choice about Entreating.
Of course this is a long ways out, but as far as I can tell this is the first ability on any faction board that “passes” the turn back to a player to make a choice.

Con mi novia jugamos root hace poco en físico y nos gustó mucho, el problema es que no tenemos grupo para jugar y tampoco es que sabemos jugar mucho, en la versión digital se puede jugar con alguien en la misma partida y sumar bots o algo?
