Custom Songs I made a free, open-source app that turns Guitar Pro files into Rocksmith 2014 CDLC — Windows installer, sync tools, 3D preview

Hey everyone! I've been working on **RockForge**, a free, open-source (MIT) app that builds Rocksmith 2014 customs from a **Guitar Pro file + a recording**. It just reached a public beta with a Windows installer (no Python needed, ffmpeg included).

Thanks to everyone who tried the first beta and told me what was wrong — this release is mostly your list.

Download (Windows installer or portable zip): https://github.com/F100Pilot/RockForge/releases/tag/0.10.0-beta.6

"There's no way to add or edit FHPs. Automatic ones are total shit." Fair. Two changes:

  • FHP editor. A lane under the score shows every fret-hand position and where it lasts. In the new "Fret-hand position" mode (key 0) you click a note to start a position there, or click a position to change its fret and width, or delete it. The first edit copies the automatic ones, so you only fix the bad ones. A note its position doesn't cover gets a red ring. Your FHPs go into the .psarc (every difficulty level) and into the DLC Builder project, per track. Notes ▾ → "Back to automatic" undoes it all.
  • New automatic FHPs, rebuilt by comparing against hand-charted CDLC instead of guessing: a chord puts the hand where the index finger is, other notes keep the hand where it is while a finger can reach them, and the hand moves at the first note it can't. On those charts it now picks the same FHP fret as the charter on 98% of the notes (80% before), with about the same number of hand moves. The XML for DLC Builder now gets the same FHPs as the .psarc.

Fixed - The Download buttons did nothing in the .exe. The app's window was blocking downloads. They now open a Save As dialog. - The capo in the GP file was ignored. It's read now (GP3-5 and GP7/8): frets are counted from the nut, as Rocksmith does, and the chart carries the capo. - A 30 MB .psarc with no sound when Wwise is missing. It no longer packs the WAV where the game never reads it; the app tells you Wwise is missing instead.

New - Bass arrangements (4- and 5-string tracks; a 5-string is folded onto four strings with a warning), encoded the way DLC Builder does it. - The installer can set up the extra parts by itself: audio analysis, tone and lyric detection, stems, PDF import and YouTube audio. It downloads a private Python with them (a few GB, optional, CUDA build if you have an NVIDIA card). Wwise still has to be installed by you (its licence), but RockForge now finds it where the Audiokinetic Launcher puts it. - A notice in the app when a newer version is out.

Still on my list: the sync tools are hard to use on a tab that isn't synced at all. I haven't changed them in this beta. If you got lost there, tell me at which step — that's exactly what I need to make it simpler.

Honest limits: the FHP editor, the new automatic FHPs and the bass charts haven't been played in game by me yet. If something looks wrong in game, please open an issue or reply here.

Source, guide and tutorial: https://github.com/F100Pilot/RockForge

**Tutorial video + source:** https://github.com/F100Pilot/RockForge

**Highlights**

- GP3/4/5 and GP7/8 → a playable **.psarc** *and* a **DLC Builder project**

- Lead / Rhythm / Combo / alternate arrangements, named like in game

- Chord finger positions, linked notes, arpeggios

- Sync you check by ear: song start, BPM, "fix from here", drag notes, align bars, undo/redo — plus Guitar Pro 8 sync points and embedded audio

- Optional **Songsterr link**: tab + human-marked bar timings + that video's audio

- Lyrics from the GP file, LRC, LRCLIB or (experimental) auto-detection

- Tone editor with the real Rocksmith gear, tone library, the tones of your own dlc folder, tone suggestions

- Checks its own PSARC and installs it in your dlc folder with one click

- Dynamic Difficulty, album art lookup, 3D highway preview, batch mode,

Portuguese/English UI

**Limits**: no audio-to-tab transcription (you need a GP file, a Songsterr tab or a PDF of one), no bass yet, no .gpx. You need **Wwise** (free from Audiokinetic, can't be bundled) for the playable PSARC audio, plus the usualCDLC patch. Beta — tested in game on my own songs, so please tell me what breaks.

Built on the shoulders of DLC Builder / Rocksmith2014.NET (iminashi) and alphaTab — thank you! Not affiliated with Ubisoft, no songs included; please only use material you own or are allowed to use.

Feedback and bug reports very welcome!

If you had humming noise with a cable (Real tone or not), did getting an interface solve it?

I've started playing guitar and Rocksmith a couple of months ago. I've bought a Behringer Guitar2USB cable because I couldn't find the real tone cable for less than 80 euros. While playing single notes during exercises in Rocksmith, my guitar sounds fine, but when playing chords it sounds horrible. I've tried different things on Rocksmith (calibration, playing with the tone designer, plus changing settings in ASIO and Windows) and thought my Squier strato had problems, until I recently plugged it in an amp and it sounded fine, nice even.

I then downloaded a virtual amp (Blue Cat) and realized there's a constant noise coming from my cable, even if the guitar is unplugged. I tried debugging it for hours but Claude is telling me that there's nothing else to do except buying an interface. Did anyone had noise problems with their real tone or Guitar2USB cable and solved them by getting an interface? I wouldn't want to buy something that might not solve my problem.

quickRS: an open-source guitar tab player, now built on the open feedpak format

Thumbnail

Hii :), a few days ago I posted about my guitar learning app I'd vibe-coded with Claude. A few people pointed out the DMCA risk around reading PSARC files (the same thing that hit Slopsmith), so I took it down rather than gamble on it.

It's back,

Repo, screenshots and setup guide: https://github.com/arpan2711/quickRS-player

Download (Windows, 13 MB): https://github.com/arpan2711/quickRS-player/releases/tag/v0.1.0

rebuilt around the open format u/xasiklas linked: (feedpak). The player only reads feedpak files, and it's been completely rewritten in Rust.

Getting songs into it
There's a converter that turns your existing song files into feedpaks. To convert official Rocksmith songs and DLC you need your own decryption keys, from when you purchased a copy. I can't share them! and they aren't included! Check the readme.

What it does

  • Tab playback: the tab scrolls along with the song.
  • Scoring and slow-down practice. Ctrl+drag across the tab to select a passage and hear it played back, or Ctrl+click to select a whole bar.
  • Plays any song in feedpak format.

Want the Rocksmith-style note highway back? The last version had one, but I removed it because getting it right takes abit of effort and I hardly used it. If enough of you want it, tell me in the comments and I'll bring it back with a little polish.

Mac users: I'm getting it running on a friend's Mac, and I'll post an update when there's a working version. Let me know if you are interested though, if know there's interest ill work it with more priority.

This isn't a professional product, and I dont have a team of testers etc., so expect some growing pains getting it running. Everyone's gear and PC setup is different, but it should work with whatever you already use for Rocksmith (Real Tone cable, audio interface, multi-effects unit, etc.). If you get stuck, ask your LLM of choice to help fill the gaps (give it the repo link). If you're still lost after that, DM me and I'll try my best.

It's free, If you like it, a star helps a lot, and if you're feeling extra friendly you can donate here, vibe coding isnt free: https://ko-fi.com/arpanmitra ☕

RS2014 Help

I am so desperate for help. I used to love playing this and I've tried several times over the past few years to make it work and always give up. My PC picks up my bass guitar and has feedback when I "listen" to it. When I launch RS14 it first says "make sure steam is running" then when it opens it says "no audio output device detected" and I've tried both my headset (Astro A40TR or something) and my basic monitor output. Both are silent in game. I can't even get to the main menu because the game isn't picking up my bass. I'm so frustrated I've spent a good amount of money here, I am using the right cables and I just don't understand.

Custom Songs I made a free tool that turns tab PDFs into Guitar Pro 5 files (+ a Rocksmith-style 3D highway to practise)

If you make CDLC, you know the first step is getting a decent Guitar Pro file. I got tired of re-typing tabs from PDFs, so I built PDF → GP5.

What it does

  • Converts tab PDFs into .gp5: text tabs, PDFs exported from Guitar Pro / MuseScore / TuxGuitar, and scanned tabs or screenshots (read with OCR, on your PC).
  • Reads the tuning, tempo, time signature, rhythm, bends, slides, hammer-ons/pull-offs, vibrato, palm mute, repeats, and lyrics (on their own track).
  • "Write out repeats in full" option, since Rocksmith has no repeats.
  • Practice player with a 3D highway in Rocksmith colours, an A–B loop that speeds up each pass, a metronome and a count-in.

Good to know

  • It runs locally (Windows: double-click start.bat), and nothing is uploaded.
  • The GP5 is a starting point: check it before charting.
  • Free and open source (MIT).

https://github.com/F100Pilot/PDF-to-GP5

Feedback welcome, especially PDFs that convert badly (describe them in an issue).

Mac OS Any projects to bring Rocksmith 2014 Learn & Play to modern Macs?

With all the recent progress in AI-assisted decompilation and recompilation, I’ve been wondering if anyone has considered porting Rocksmith 2014 Learn & Play to macOS.

The original game has been abandoned, there are still bugs that were never fixed, and Apple Silicon Macs are everywhere now, from the M1 MacBook Air to the newer Mac minis.

Given how far reverse engineering tools have come, could a community-driven port actually be feasible?

Is anyone working on something like this, or has the idea ever been discussed in the modding community? I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially from people familiar with the technical side of Rocksmith.

Added in Tabs to RS2014 - What do you think?

Hey y'all - just picked up Rocksmith 10 days ago and am loving it- already logged 20 hours on it .... lol

I've played guitar on and off since I turned 10 and had just gotten back into it recently. As a kid I had practiced with tabs, and that had helped me memorize a few songs and allowed me to play at my own pace.

Anyways one of the things that has been annoying me is the lack of tabs in Rocksmith. I know I can use riff repeater, but there is still the time-bound element of it - I need to look at the structure of certain licks to really know how to play it, which is only really achieved with tabs/sheet music. I'm also aware Rocksmith+ has tabs, but who wants to pay a subscription for software in the age of AI amirite (I say as a software engineer 😄).

So I spent some time to create this mod. Essentially, it allows the user to view tabs in three places: 1) a preview on the song list page, 2) a one-line, infinite scrolling tab in the song, and 3) a full-page scrolling tab in the song. In the song preview, you can switch between accompaniment (lead/rhythm/bass).

Hope you enjoy! If it gets enough interest, I'll try and make a way to distribute it, either as a standalone or through something like RSMods.

No Cable Realtone Cable Alternatives

I've played guitar before, but I am only now getting into rocksmith, and I need a cable. I can't drop 65 bucks on an official cable right now, but I see there are many knockoffs out there. I am wondering if there is a "best" knockoff cable that the community can agree upon.

Ear Training, Even Without CDJs

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every DJ already had that experience of playing with cdjs for the first time and being completely lost. And what about when you're going to play on some old DJ gear that simply has no visuals and you have to do everything by ear, how can you be prepared for it?

Rekordbox is amazing! But unfortunately it does not have a simulated way for ear practicing, only if you hide the visuals completely to try by ear.

This game on the video is called DJ Life Simulator and has received an amazing update in which you can control how many helpers and indicators you want to improve in a progression according to your taste.

There are helpers to know the exact time to play, for starters, then you can remove it when you feel ready, then you can remove the sync and practice some more.

When you feel ready you can switch the waveform view to the famous "Semaphore" that several Pioneer Equipments have, so you need to see the blinking rectangles and make them blink at the same time to be aligned until you get used to it.

Then on the hardest mode, you can remove all indicators and try to do it by ear and to simulate the headphones, you can even turn the headphone cue ON to listen and align the tracks until you believe they're correct and change the view to confirm if you want.

This game was made to help beginners and we have over 11 thousand players around the world,3 big DJ schools from Brazil using it so far, made by a solo developer from Brazil (me), and I hope it can be a useful tool to help you guys with hearing practice and beatmatching too.

The game is already avaiable on steam on early access, final launch is on November 3rd and the link is on the first comment, hope you like it and if you have any suggestions please comment, helps a lot, god bless you and have a great week!

RS2014 Problem with high e-String recognition

I play RS2014 through an Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 on a Squire Strat.

The high e-Sting seems to be cutting in and out, same with some other high notes and bends.

When I record with a DAW everything is fine.

I can't amp up the gain on the Focusrite because then I gat the nastiest hum

I can't use a direct cable either because then everything is too low in volume overall, even with all the nobs turned up.

I haven't found any solution yet so maybe someone here has an idea.

ASIO Support Desk Anyone else had trouble with OBS Asio with Rocksmith?

I'm not sure where this issue comes from, there seems to be a 50/50 chance it works or doesn't work. It seems to stay mute despite audio clearly coming through Reaper ReaRoute, and the correct settings on the OBS Asio input. I have no idea how to fix this because I've tried everything possible, setting it up again, restarting the software, restarting the PC. I spent hours getting it to work, and now this happens.

No Cable My guitar is said to not be tuned by the game, but the tuning it wants is ridiculously high, any way to solve?

Hey, I just decided to give a shot at this game since it was on sale, and am using the following setup:
Connected with microphone ( my guitar is ran through an amp to the pc through its headphone jack to the pc's microphone jack (shitty but it picks up sound atleast) )
I got till tuning the guitar, and even when im not sturmming it says +999 on the to be tuned string, but when i strum it it works somewhat fine, except that it asks me to tune my guitar really high. Standard E tuning said my (in tune, according to my guitar tuner) A string matched what my lowest E string should sound like. Tried to make it work, got until my D string, which I tried to tune to rocksmith's tuner, but that was way too high and so my string just snapped.
Any way I could make it work? I dont have a proper audio interface, nor a real tone cable, and microphone mode with a real microphone didnt seem to work well either.
edit: tried on another guitar, same issue, A string is correct for the lowest E here too

Buzzing/Feedback solution

I have been playing for a while now and have been ignoring this buzzing/feedback noise coming from my guitar or the cable. Are there any settings recommended to stop this from being so loud? It's primarily on high distortion songs of course but if I can figure this out I would be thrilled. Have you ran into this and how did you adjust it? I am on Steam/PC.=

RS2014 Rocksmith Audio Bridge v4.0.0 (formerly RSModsPlus) adds Note by Note practice, external amp sims and in game recording

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

RSModsPlus has a new name. It's now Rocksmith Audio Bridge, because the old name kept getting mistaken for Rocksmith+. It's still my fork of RSMods (credit to Lovro for the original), and the Drop Pedal and Speaker Mode are still there.

The biggest addition is Note by Note (beta), a Riff Repeater practice mode that listens for every note you play. There are two ways to use it:

  • Flow mode off: the song stops at every note and waits until you play it. Good for working through a hard part one note at a time.
  • Flow mode on (the default): the song plays along at the Riff Repeater speed and only stops when you miss a note, waiting there until you play it.

Flow mode caps the Riff Repeater speed. Confirming a note takes a moment, and if the notes come faster than that, the song would stop on notes you played correctly. The cap comes from the busiest part of the sections you pick, so slower sections get a higher limit.

It works on guitar and bass, though bass is still experimental. Turn it on with the NOTE BY NOTE switch in Riff Repeater's Advanced Settings, with the FLOW MODE switch just below it.

Note by Note also uses its own, more accurate note detection. On top of the game's own matcher, it checks the pitch of your raw guitar signal and uses a machine-learning note detector. You can see its live results by turning on the UI on the note by note tab on the overlay.

The mod also now gives Rocksmith its own audio devices, so "No audio output device" shouldn't stop the game from starting any more, even with no speakers plugged in. Speakers and headphones at 44.1 kHz or in 5.1 play without errors or crackling. (With ASIO, set the bridge driver in RS_ASIO.ini.)

Other changes:

  • External amp: play through AmpliTube or another ASIO amp sim while the game keeps your clean signal for note detection (ASIO interface only for now)
  • Recording: F6 saves the full game mix (including external amp) plus your dry guitar for re-amping, or an MP4 video
  • Mixer with seven volume faders, including separate levels for each player
  • Guitar input cleanup: make-up gain, noise suppressor, compressor and hum filter
  • Output switching while you play, with an optional limiter
  • USB cable compatibility (experimental): cables that run at a different sample rate are converted to the 48 kHz Rocksmith expects
  • Drop Pedal now works natively with a Real Tone Cable: lower latency, and any tone can be used
  • Speaker Mode is now one setting for both players, set by Player 1, and works with custom DLC built on newer Wwise versions
  • More ASIO interfaces supported
  • An installer that includes the full RSMods suite and can repair or uninstall
  • Everything is controlled from an in-game overlay (press \)

Upgrading from RSModsPlus: run the installer over your existing install. Your settings should carry over, but let me know if anything gets reset.

Download and setup guide: github.com/Cheesewizard/RocksmithAudioBridge

Roadmap - Next update will include an in game tone designer where you can import your VST3 files allowing you to save / load your custom tones. Multiple effects can be chained at once and tones can be set per song to override the in game guitar tone.

Requirements ASIO users: use RS_ASIO 0.7.2 or newer (latest is 0.7.5: https://github.com/mdias/rs_asio/releases). With RS_ASIO 0.6.1 to 0.7.1, the game crashes right after the profile screen, and versions before 0.6.0 give distorted sound and no guitar input. To check your version, open RS_ASIO-log.txt in your Rocksmith folder; the first line says Wrapper DLL loaded (vX.Y.Z). To update, replace both RS_ASIO.dll and avrt.dll and keep your own RS_ASIO.ini. A fix for the older versions is coming in 4.1.

If something breaks, comment here and send me the following files to my email if you can.

I need the rsmods_debug.txt and the .mdmp crash file (if it actually crashed), that would really help me identify the problem. This is my dev email, thanks!

Files are inside the game install location C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rocksmith2014

RS2014 Beginner question

I’m buying my first guitar this week but I’m still undecided between electric and electric acoustic. are electric acoustics compatible with rocksmith 2014 I really wanna play songs from bands like circa survive panic at the disco my chemical romance paramore etc I do favor the acoustic versions of a lot of there songs but if an electric is more feasible I’ll go that direction.

Mod pre-release: Note-by-Note demo v0.3.0 - Rocksmith 2014 L&P mod (need help for Remastered comptability)

Thumbnail
youtube.com
27 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

Thank you all for your interest on the mod that I announced last week. Now it comes the time to "pre-release" it.

Note-by-Note is a free, fan-made mod for Rocksmith 2014 Edition - Remastered (PC, Steam): the song waits at each note and chord until you play it, so you can learn a part at your own pace instead of chasing the highway.

Repo: https://github.com/Arkhanragel/note-by-note-rocksmith2014

IMPORTANT NOTES, PLEASE READ:

  1. Edit: Thanks for the help, I think now it should work on the Remaster Version
  2. Keep in mind is the first build, bugs and unexped problems are... expected. The mod backups all files that it touches so uninstalling it will recover your game folder if anything goes horribly wrong.
  3. Special thanks to RSMods community for their source and help understanding the ecosystem of the game. Currently the mod is not part of RSMods and it was not tested with it. The plan is to be able to integrate it inside RSMods at some point, for that there is this technical doc: TECHNICAL.md
  4. A user guide is here, please check it: USER GUIDE
  5. More than one option is kind of experimental, and other requires properly tunning, feel free to tweek as you like to report issues. I would recommend to try the calibrate button inside the mod to see if it recognizes the open strings without issues first. Each option in the menu has a (?) explaining what it does.
  6. It is my first public release of anything, so... sorry beforehand because I know I will get backslashed somehow... by not knowing something and doing it wrong. I'm just playing with AI at the end to make things for myself, and some of them can be shared.

-------------------------

What it does

- Waits for you. The song stops at each note or chord until you play it, and never stops if you play on time. Or it just shows the notes without stopping.

- Tells you what to play in plain words ("Play fret 9 on string 4 (D)") and on a small fretboard, with fingers, hand position and techniques if you want them.

- Helps with wrong notes. It says what you played and how to fix it ("move DOWN 2 frets"), can show the exact spot you played, and notices when a string is out of tune.

- Shows the music coming up as tab, in pages with a moving cursor or scrolling, with optional rhythm and pick strokes. Notes turn green when played on time and amber when the song waited.

- Finds your trouble spots. It remembers where you stop most, lets you practise just those parts, and shows your progress note by note. Works in Riff Repeater.

- Make it yours. An in-game menu (F8) to move and resize everything, left-handed tab, and colour themes. A new install starts simple.

- Extras: faster start-up, a fix for one of the game's random crashes, and a clean uninstall.

For more information, check the readme: README.md

---> Link to the installer of pre-release 0.3.2: https://github.com/Arkhanragel/note-by-note-rocksmith2014/releases/tag/v0.3.2

------------------------

What's next:

  1. Attending mayor issues of the mod and fixes. This is something I do on my free time, please be patient.
  2. I have several features in mind that can be added on top of what has been built. Once in the rabbit hole... you follow the rabbit you know?
  3. Compatibility and integration with RSMods

Well, I will be arround here reading and answering, thanks again for your interest, and even more thanks if you test it.

Mac OS Rocksmith on macOS 27

I’m still happily playing Rocksmith 2014 Remastered on my M1 MacBook Air and would really like to keep it that way, so I’m a bit cautious about updating to macOS 27.

I was affected by the macOS update that completely broke Rocksmith a while back. Thankfully everything is working again now, including the Real Tone Cable, but after that experience I’d rather check first before installing another major update.

Has anyone here already updated to macOS 27 and tried Rocksmith 2014? Does it still launch and work normally on Apple Silicon?

I’m also curious about the whole Rosetta situation going forward. From what I understand, Apple plans to phase out general Rosetta 2 support, but there should still be some kind of limited compatibility for older games. Let's hope that Rocksmith will fall under that exception.

Would be great to hear from anyone who has already tested it.
