Need help on a Remington 783 30.06.
Question all my long range rifle shooters. I'm new to this long range shooting, was wondering if any one knows what upgrades can I do to my Remington 783 30.06 rifle. I already got a new rail mount and new scope rings for my scope. What else can I do to this rifle I would like to get so input from you guys. Thank you.

Is it really necessary to build a hunting rifle?
I've been thinking a lot about bolt-action rifle builds after being hooked by some sexy build videos on youtube. "Boy, I'd like to build myself a hunting rifle," I say aloud as I create a new spreadsheet to track parts and costs. About five minutes into that exercise, and holy crap, all these builds are coming in around $3,000 before you even think about which scope to buy.
I guess I can see that expense if you're a long-range competition shooter, but is this kind of build even necessary to go hunting? I would feel like a jackass with my $5,000 custom rig walking past someone on the trail skinning out their kill with a $400 Savage propped against a tree.
If it can be done, can it be done more affordably? Or is bare action/prefit barrel land reserved for those willing to drop $5-6K?
Range Day - Ruger American .223
galleryWent to the range today and tried out a Ruger American bolt action chambered in .223. Also had a scope and a bipod. First time I've ever used a scope, a bipod or a .223.
I am enjoying my rifle search. I did a Winchester Xpert, a Ruger 10/22 and now this one. Love it.
My friend's and acquaintances are touting lever action, so I'm looking into the Henry H1x. But this is fun. By the way, that hole up top isn't exactly a flyer. I was aiming for the tip of the triangle, but missed low left.

Is this a good starter rifle for marksmanship?
I've been wanting to buy a good rifle for a while and finally got some cash to do so. I plan on getting it chambered in .308 cause 6.5 is too expensive. I plan on max shooting to 500 maybe 600 yards, depending if there is a range nearby that is long enough.

Looking at getting my first bolt action rifle, is Savage Arms a good place to start?
I've been looking at their products and I see there's a lot of variety, and the prices aren't too high. They've been in the game for a long time and they aren't too hard to find locally. Is it a good place to start?

Out of curiosity
I know .308 is a good caliber for a lot of things. But, I am curious about other calibers that could be considered "well-balanced". Just good, all around calibers for multi-purpose uses.

Hunting rifle advice
I’ve been looking to buy my own hunting rifle for whitetail deer in .308 Win, and I’ve heard good things about the Ruger Generation 2, Tikka TX3, and the Browning X-Bolt. However, most of these recommendations come from people who shoot long distance and track long distances, and I am from Louisiana, so weight won’t be an issue, and the longest distance I’ll shoot is about 250 yards. So what do y'all think my best option would be?

Swedish M96 Mauser shot placement and question.
galleryThese are the shot placements/groups I got at 100 yards, aiming at 6 o’clock on the target. The first is using PPU Matchline and the second is using Sellier and Bellot FMJ. I fired from a sitting position using a rest, but I am not the best shot in the world so I think the rifle groups well. I think I’m going to use S&B exclusively because it’s cheaper and performed better. I was wondering if, given the consistent shot placement to the left, I should attempt to adjust the front sight?

Reduced Recoil Whitetail Deer Rifle
I've been researching a reduced recoil rifle for whitetail deer in PA. My dad underwent major surgery and is recovering well, but would like a lighter recoil gun. He currently shoots a 7.5lb 7mm remington magnum 140grain. He would like to stay around the 130-140 grain since he's seen someone loose lots of deer to a 243. He does admit it's probably due to their poor shot placement. I'm currently considering a 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5 prc suppressed or a 25 creedmoor. I'm open to suggestions. I just got a Dead Air RXD30Ti and I'm amazed at how much it reduces the recoil on my 300 weatherby. So it might mean trying to get him a gun with a threaded barrel and another suppressor to mitigate recoil as well.

Need help with scope
Just got back into shooting in the hopes of getting out hunting this year (it's been close to 10 years)
Found out that my scope is set pretty far forward and I have to stretch my neck (or it feels like it at least) in order to get a good sight picture.
I know the scope is set as far back as possible on the mounting rail, but are there any options to get closer?
I forgot to get a good picture of just mine, but it's the one lying down in the picture.
Edit: I tried looking up ideas and options, but all I was getting was articles on how to mount a scope normally.
