Would love to hear what your personal picks are that will stand up with the very best of them and will be regarded into the future as masterpieces of the genre.

I’ll start -

Azure - Fym
Moron Police - Pachinko
Loathe - I Let It In and It Took Everything

Been hyping hard for this release

The new album is now available on YouTube!

I’ve had Xenotaph by Fallujah on repeat for what feels like months now and would kill for recommendations of bands with similar vibes.

I really dig a balanced blend of harsh and clean vocals, fast percussion, and dreamy guitar riffs. I also can’t stand cleans that sound like the soundtrack to an 80s LotR D&D campaign (e.g., Dream Theater)

For reference, I’m also a huge fan of:
-Greylotus
-Rivers of Nihil
-Pull Down the Sun (please for the love of god release some new music!)
-Gojira
-Hippotraktor
-Psychonaut
-Fit for an Autopsy
-Gaerea
-Interloper
-Black Crown Initiate
-Karmanjakah
-Kardashev (late addition)
-Monosphere (late addition)
-The Wise Man’s Fear (late addition)

edit: love this sub. Ty all.
edit2: obligatory shoutout to [u/Kardashevband](u/Kardashevband) because they’re goated

We put out this horror-themed track but couldn't decide if it counts as prog metal. What do you think?

A Moroccan prog metal band from the early 00s

Massive wasted potential

underground insanely underappreciated

Give it a listen you won't regret it

Never seen a band with a frontman drummer before but Night Verses is certainly one. Amazing performance (from the entire band; Nick and Reilly are incredible too), super underrated band that everyone here should know. They really were one of those bands I fell in love with from the jump and

I'm assuming most people's favorite genre here is prog rock/metal, as they are mine, and with that in mind I thought this would be a fun and insightful idea. I was listening to QOTSA's "Era Vulgaris" album earlier today and it had me thinking that Queens of the Stone Age is a top 25 band for me - but probably the only one which is not at all prog (Songs for the Deaf barely scrapes prog territory, that's about it).

So, what are some non-prog bands which you consider to be on par with your prog rock/metal favorites? I'd love to expand my taste when it comes to rock/metal. Cool!

Any fans of heavier prog metal in the audience?

This is the debut track from my progressive solo project, Sleepless Void. It took me a long time to get to the specific sound I was after that was both huge and organic.

Fans of Agalloch, Alcest, Enslaved, Opeth etc. should feel right at home.
If you appreciate long-form, multi-layered metal with mixed genres, give "Different" a listen.

Did the Levee actually Breaks at 2:26?

Incredibly under recognized track by a very (hopefully only temporary) underground band
