What are actually *the best cards* against Spy Combo

Im asking bc the deck seems to have gotten fairly resilient with mana producing dorks and the fact that it can jam so many versatile creatures like Mesmeric Fiend and Masked Vandal.

In my view, this deck has quickly gone from a *glass cannon* type matchup to a much better deck with so many interesting choices.

So with fiends and vandals 4 of and ready at anytime to disenchant your Nihil Spellbombs and the like and also the fiends to remove the counterspells, what are the cards that are actually effective or more than favorable? I'm trying to think beyond the typical *Oh i boarded in my thraben charms but they had mesmeric fiend so i lose* matchup scenario.

Prismatic strands seems like a card that sticks out, being in your graveyard and potentially 0 cost at instant speed. Wildfire on the right turn can be good too for obvious reasons. What else actually is advantageous?

CASUAL Why do you think pauper isn’t as popular in the US?

I know this is a bit of survivorship bias, but it seems that the commander side of things where I live is always popping off, but I’m lucky if even three more people show up for pauper night. I understand people don’t like to play competitive in their “casual game” but I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that there isn’t much pauper action in my local area. I have my ideas of course, but what do you all think?

CASUAL I like to hyperfocus for a while on 1 deck. Can you recommend a deck right now that's really difficult to play but once mastered feels like you have a shot each game?

Have been playing for half a year now almost, and had a blast with mostly gruul tremors (350 games on endstep lol) and rakdos madness. I love aggressive decks in TCG's, but also love grindy midrange decks. Have been wanting to play a Tron buiild for a while now too. Mostly i'm up for a challenging deck that's somewhat future proof (for as far as we can look into the future) and works well in this meta. Thanks!

BREW Open Love letter to the format

It’s Turn 2. Look at that board!

This was already game 2. The first game ended on turn 3 after mulliganing to 5.

Dispatch may be a strong player in the After Zeta meta now, but when Tron keeps being a top player this deck might still have a chance.

I will make some more Youtube backed posts in the upcoming weeks, especially about Trollshaws, trying to have fun with Rhystic Study and more. Keep your eyes peeled.

BREW Trying to splash blue to my BW Blade using gates, any tips?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I'm testing it on endstep, because most of the times i feel the original BW has some difficult to close games and lembas is significantly worse than cryogen.

It really feels like it close games easier without losing the affinity (still uses 8 artifact lands instead of 10 of the original BW, but we got giant's that gives affinity too so it's a fair trade)

Why 3 Basilisk: To gives us the permission to still uses 8 tapped lands. I see the gates lists that uses 4 Basilisks usually uses 10~12 tapped lands on minimum. BTW the draw power of Cryogen Relic helps us to find easily at least one of them

Giant's Boulder helps mana fixing for cryogen relic/baleful strix/uncolored basilisk gate, at the same time it gives affinity for the rat/dispatch. Also a good late-game removal, but i'm starting to think 2 is ok? The tapped gates are easily fixing the mana

and 1 Strix because of why not haha

Could you guys offer any insights on whether you would change anything while keeping the premise of a BW Blade deck with a blue splash?

CARD DISC. Something worth saving: worth playing?

Feels like this card is actually not bad, it's not quite [[malevolent Rumbles]], but it being instant speed feels pretty strong. Worth the switch?

Esper Ephemerate was quite impressive at the Israeli Nationals in October, this time splashing black instead of the traditional red so it can play Baleful Strix and Cut Down!

Simic or Black Fog

My next deck I want to build is fog. There's a lot of rally at my LGS and a lot of boggles. It seems like simic gets played more. Is there a clear better deck? What should I build

SPIKE Gameplay Rules Communication for every Pauper deck

Thumbnail

Hi!

Today, I want to share with you my video on how to communicate effectively and efficiently within a game of Magic so that everything is clear but also you don't waste precious clock time.

I delver into my philosophy of clarity of communication which includes:
- Clear announcing of effects
- Not passing priority when opponent cannot do anything or your actions don't go through the stack
- Shortcutting to speed up play
- Leaving dexterity aspects for when the opponent is playing out their turn
among others

I also go into every Pauper deck to list examples of what requires what type of communication (and what doesn't!)

Let me know what you think!

HELP Hi frens! New player seeking advice (mono green elves deck)

I'm sorta new to MTG in general, been playing mostly Commander for a few months but i decided to give Pauper a try and got myself this deck.

I managed to grasp the basics on how to play it and make it work however i'm still not sure about the sideboard in regards to which card should i use against each matchup and which ones i should switch from the base deck.

If possible, i also could use tips against these matchups:
- Red decks in general (madness, burn, rally)
- Slivers (there's a trash-talking asshole in my locals who uses this deck and i'd hate to lose against him)

PAPER 2 open slots in BattleBox

Hi all,

For the past few weeks, ive been putting together a number of decks for a 10-deck battlebox. I have the following 8 finished:

-Mono Red Madness

-Mono Green Elves

-Mono Blue Faeries

-Mono Black Sacrifice

-Mono White Weenie

-Temur Monster Tron

-Grixis Affinity

-Dimir Control

I am looking to complete the last 2 decks, but I am unsure as to what to slot in. Bogles? A Terror variant?

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions!

In the current meta, how good is Jund Wildfire? It seems like the downgrade of Baleful Strix to common has hit us a bit hard. But I'd like to see other players' thoughts.

Dimir Faeries vs Madness

Hello fellow faeries players.

I recently got into Dimir Faeries after 2+ years away from the game (have played U Faeries in the past), and I have been able able to play it consistently against most decks. However, I have been steuggling A LOT against red madness.

I know it is supposed to be a tough match for faeries, but I am being kicked pretty bad game after game.

Long story short, how do we play this match? Tips on sideboard (other than removing 4 Snuff Out XD), game posture, lines of play are all appreciate.

I really appreciate all the help :)

HELP Suggestions/Ban Worries for a Battlebox

Hello all,

I was hoping to build a small battlebox to get some of my friends into the format. I am going to start with 5 decks. So far I have built Mono U Terror and Elves. I was hoping to build Spy Combo because I really enjoy combo decks, but I also read how it isn't the most fun to play into. I also want to build Esper Affinity and Red Madness, but I am a little worried about dispatch or snacker bans, so I am not entirely sure about those two. Do you think that these bans might happen in December? Also, is Spy really that bad to play into? I saw a post saying that if Madness sees a ban, then Spy might get too strong and could warrant a ban as well. Should I be worried about these things happening?

The help is greatly appreciated.

PAPER Update: The Newbie Who Went 0–10 Finally Has His Own Deck

Post image
158 Upvotes

Hey r/Pauper!
Some of you might remember my previous post about getting absolutely demolished at locals and questioning my life choices. Well, after reading everyone’s advice and spending an unreasonable amount of time deciding what to play, I’ve finally acquired my very first Pauper deck! I’m aware that it’s not yet the “optimal” stock list. I’m currently on the lookout for some more optimal cards and the fourth copies of some cards I already have in the deck.

From now on, I will put in the time to understand the ins and outs of my own deck! Again, thanks for all the tips, encouragements, and reality checks in my last post!

Decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/vJ-gAcAptXmaNPX7uDHgzw

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially on beginner traps, sideboarding, and matchups!
Hopefully my next update involves winning a few games!
