Question Is it worth moving to Passau first and looking for accommodation in person?
Hey everyone!
I'm making another post because I'm a bit confused about how to approach the housing situation in Passau.
I'm an international student moving to Passau to study AI at the University of Passau, and I'm looking for accommodation from November.
I've been searching online, mainly on WG-Gesucht, but finding a suitable place has been quite difficult. I'm considering two options:
- Book a cheap hotel or hostel for a few days after arriving in Passau and look for rooms in person.
- Rent a temporary room for 1–2 months and use that time to find a better, long-term place.
My main question is: Are there actually more rooms available in Passau than what we see advertised online? Is there a realistic chance of finding better and more affordable places by being physically present in the city, talking to people, visiting WGs, and exploring local housing groups?
Or is the situation pretty much the same, and arriving without long-term accommodation would just make things more stressful?
I'd especially appreciate advice from students who have recently moved to Passau or gone through the same process. If you managed to find a room after arriving, how did you go about it?
I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth spending extra money on temporary accommodation in the hope of finding something better, or whether I should secure a place online before arriving.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
