The 210 in Pasadena Needs Fixing -- How do we push for it??

With the forecasted wet winter coming up, we all know how horrendous the 210, especially from Monrovia to Pasadena, tends to get (and already is even without the rain). Potholes that make ten-car lineups on the side of the road during a rainstorm. Our suspensions are all collectively crying every time we end up driving in the middle lane. Giant chunks taken out of the bandaid tar they throw in there after a week.

Why is it that I can drive down to Orange County now and the majority of the 5 has been beautifully repaved it's like driving on butter, but ours is hot garbage still? I don't know who to call, email, petition, or what. Obviously Caltrans, but what is effective? How do we implore that this has been needed for a long time and they are willfully doing a disservice and putting drivers at risk by continuing to ignore this? I saw this article about the work they're doing on the 60 https://secretlosangeles.com/ca-60-route-daytime-closures-el-nino-storms/ and it's great for that area but like...when is it our turn??

Fire in Azusa to be aware of

Post image
71 Upvotes

I’m away from my house today and monitoring the Santa Ana situation close remotely.

In the last half hour the Peak Fire has erupted from 2 to 20+ acres. It is a quarter mile north f San Gabriel Canyon Rd and Mirador drive in Azusa.

Evacuations set for the area immediately around the fire.

But the Evac Warnings spread across most of the Southern San Gabriels across Monrovia and stopping just before Kinneloa Mesa. The winds are driving the fire east and slightly south.

No warnings for us yet, but please check your apps and stay alert.

Need assistance/recommendations for in-home pet euthanasia

EDIT: thank you to everyone who commented below. Your info has proved invaluable. I will be calling Gifts of Peace later on today. Your love and kind words are also heartwarming. He's being spoiled rotten in between his all too frequent naps. We will miss him terribly.

Unfortunately, our dog Perry has an incurable brain lesion and it’s time for him to cross the rainbow bridge. Our vet gave us a list of firms that offer this service, but I have no idea where to start.

If anybody has any recommendations, please let us know. Even background research on Yelp doesn’t really give you the whole picture. If anybody has a good compassionate service, please let us know. Thank you so much.

The firms they recommend are:

Saving Grace Veterinary Service

A Peaceful Ending

Gifts of Peace

Lap of Love

Serenity

Hearts and Halos

Green Meadows Veterinary Care Euthanasia & After Care

Has anyone ever done them? Are they worth it? They’re pretty pricey and self guided so I wasn’t sure if they were worth it or not. I wanna tour the place so badly!

This is a long shot but I’m trying to find someone in the area that happens to have a 2024 Connection and would be willing to help me continue my Tamagotchi’s lineage.

They just grow up so fast…

Does South Pasadena FD bill just for taking vitals after an accident?

I got a letter in the mail from the City of South Pasadena Fire Department asking me to provide my insurance info "in order to bill for your Emergency Medical Service", but I'm not sure if it's legit or not.

Context:

  1. I was a passenger in a hit-and-run car accident a month ago and called 911 from the wreckage

  2. The fire dept arrived and performed vitals checks (blood pressure and heart rate) on me and the driver

  3. No ambulance rides or any other care was administered except the above.

  4. No specific charges were enumerated in the letter, it just asked for my insurance info and said "you may be responsible for charges."

I was surprised to see a bill after only getting vitals taken. I looked around online but couldn't seem to find a straight answer. Is it standard for the Pasadena FD to charge just for taking vitals?

Thanks in advance! I have no real problem providing my info to them, just wanted to double check.

Pasadena jury duty, what to expect?

Does anyone have recent experience with jury duty at the Pasadena courthouse? I’ve been checking in since Monday and haven’t been called, but now I have to report tomorrow at 12pm. Should I expect to be there for hours waiting to be called? What kinds of questions do they ask during jury selection? I’m also trying to figure out my childcare situation but I’ve heard that's not an excuse anymore. Appreciate any info!

Rain gutter repair/replacement

Posting here worked before so I’m asking for a great recommendation once again. I need a 2nd story rain gutter repaired or replaced. I’d rather work with a small business/single businessman than call a big company that will try to upsell me on stuff I don’t need. If anyone knows of a reputable person, please let me know. Pasadena/SGV area.

Thank you.

Did anyone see my hit & run? 210E Hill Ave Tues. 10/13 6:50pm

Hoping anyone had a dash cam and caught me getting rear ended on Tuesday evening.

My car is a White Ford Escape and I was driving in the slow lane between Hill & Sierra Madre.

It might have been a mini van or other similar sized vehicle. They were driving slowly with hazards on after they hit, but didn’t exit the freeway with me.

I’ve already filed a police report, but crossing my fingers someone happened to catch it!

Tiger painting lost

Did anyone pick up a large painting of a tiger off the curb on S Oakland between Del Mar and California? My mother misunderstood my instructions and put it out there. It’s very precious to a close friend of mine and I’m desperate to get it back. Please help!

4,160 housing units could be coming to Pasadena. But what if that's good?

For the first time I can remember, Pasadena is really approving and building housing, especially affordable housing, at the scale that the housing crisis demands. As a renter, I can't wait for this housing to come online and make my own landlord sweat about keeping the building full.

But it's not surprising that lots of people, many of them who have long had secure, paid-off housing of their own, are not happy that the city is set to build so much housing. You may have gotten some emails about a meeting of the Housing, Homelessness, and Planning city council committee tomorrow, Wednesday, at 5pm. Many opponents are planning to show up and try to get Pasadena to slow down building the housing we need. If you're a renter, a prospective homeowner, or just someone who sees how the lack of housing is hurting our young people, families, and seniors, can you help push back?

Here's a link to the agenda. You can email comments to [commentshhpc@cityofpasadena.net](mailto:commentshhpc@cityofpasadena.net) or join in person at 5 at City Hall in the Council Chambers on the 2nd floor, SE corner of the building. You can also comment virtually. Agenda items1-3 are all housing related, but item 1 is on the density bonus which has powered so much affordable housing in Pasadena. Reach out with any questions, and thank you for your support!

Private OBGYN practices?

Just had to pay an annual fee AND endure ADS when checking into my annual appointment. We can’t even check into appointments without seeing ads, REALLY? I attribute this to private equity and major companies owning doctors now.

Does anyone have any suggestions of PRIVATE practices in Pasadena for obstetrics/gynecoloy?

Reccs for local photographers for family / young kids’ photos?

Any of y’all used a local professional photographer for family photos that you can recommend? Bonus points for experience photographing toddlers or young kids. Looked on Yelp and saw some absurd pricing (eg $5k for a 45min session), and wasn’t sure what is market these days…!

Edit: THANK YOU for all the amazing leads!!! Will update with who we use!

What landmark defines Pasadena?

I'm taking a small course about disaster recovery, part of recovery is natural and cultural resources. A question that was thrown at us was what landmark would people "riot" over? I'm a recent transplant so I didn't have an answer. What would you say?

Scalp Massage

Hi all, wife’s birthday coming up and she mentioned that she’d like a scalp massage. I can’t discern between the six or seven or eight that seem to pop up in Pasadena. Any tips or recommendations greatly appreciated. Thank you!
