If you're new to the city, passing through as a digital nomad, or a local wanting to meet internationals, I want to invite you to the Expats Living in Palermo community.

We get together every week at Ferramenta for a relaxed evening of good drinks and great company. It’s a super casual setup and the perfect way to break the ice if you've just arrived and want to expand your circle.

We do a lot more than just grab drinks, though. Our community is really active, and members are always organizing things throughout the week:

⚽ Sports: We regularly put together groups for padel, volleyball, and football.

🥾 Hikes & Excursions: We love exploring the area! Just last week, some of our members spontaneously organized a great hiking tour up Montepellegrino.

I've just come back from my 11 day Sicily trip (main locations were Palermo, Castelbuono, Agrigento, San Vito lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo). I spent only 1.5 days in Palermo and already knew I HAD to come back some time to explore the city more.

Now I'm looking into potential dates when flights are reasonably cheap for a shorter city trip (planning 4 full days + the arrival and departure days). I found good flights in mid-late March. Climate tables only tell you so much; it seems like I'd have good chances for mild spring temperatures that are pleasant for walking around in a city, visiting museums, villas and churches.

What about restaurants/bars/bistros though? Do they already have a few tables outdoors or is everything still kept inside at that time? I always love sitting outside and watching people walk by, or buying some street food and sitting on a bench to eat it.

Will March be fine for that or should I look at a later date, maybe April?

If you had to choose between the two, which of these cities would you travel to for a week-long trip? I've visited Paris twice before, but was there on business both times, so I didn't get to see much of the city. I also speak a limited amount of French.

I've never visited Palermo. In fact, other than a brief business trip to Florence, I've never really visited Italy. I don't speak any Italian.

I like walking through lively neighbourhoods and markets, eating affordable food, and drinking cold beer in nice pubs. The many reports I have read about Palermo make me think it's worth a visit, but then I also read some reports about how it can be dirty, run-down, and sketchy in parts, and those aspects of a city don't really appeal to me. To those who are familiar with both: quale fare? If it helps any, the trip I'm considering would likely take place mid-November.

Ciao sono un medico che devi iniziare la specializzazione a novembre. Gli ospedali che ho come rete formativa sono:
1. Ospedale civico
2. Villa sofia

Vorrei consigli sulle zone dove abitare,non ho la macchina dato che vengo da un’altra regione.

Pensavo come zone: San lorenzo, resuttana, montegrappa, albergheria

Ho del capitale da parte grazie al lavoro, quindi non ho problemi.

I had a day trip to Palermo today and I noticed this. These two photos are taken about an hour apart. I was concerned about the welfare of these 3 animals. The homeless man had them tied to a leash in front of this building, for hours. They seemed completely unresponsive, not reacting to the people around them. I realized that as I approached the cat. As a cat owner I cannot wrap my mind about the fact that this cat was sleeping undisturbed and didn’t even open its eyes when I approached. House cats barely sleep like that with their backs turned to the people. To me it seemed like the animals were drugged.

Online there are more photos if this exact man with the animals and Google AI tells me his name is Angelo and that hes already been checked and the animals are probably safe.

However the view was unsettling and i still cant take my mind off it. Does anyone have information?
