I need CPR certification for work and want to make sure I take the right class. Any good in person options near Pacifica?

I'm looking to get CPR certified for work and want to make sure I take a course that meets employer requirements. There are so many different training options online that I'm not sure which certifications are actually accepted so I'd rather do an in person class and get it done properly.

Are there any good places to take CPR training around Pacifica or would I be better off going to Daly City or South San Francisco? I'm okay with paying a little more for a recognized certification. If you've taken a class nearby, I'd appreciate hearing where you went and whether it was worth it. Thanks!

1:1 math help for your family

Hi everyone! I’m Stephen, a local math tutor. I used to teach at Penn State, where I taught a course on website development and blockchain.

I offer online math tutoring for students grades 5-11, working mostly with middle schoolers.

There are no contracts or packages. We can work on current homework, prepare for a test, or go back over material your student needs more practice with. Sessions take place over Google Meet and an online platform I built, and I send you a short note afterward about what we covered and what to watch for.

I keep my tutoring roster small so I can get to know each student and follow what they’re working on.

If you’re looking for math help, book a free introductory parent call here.

Construction noise from the pier?

I'm heading to Pacifica for a couple days next week. I understand that the pier and cafe are closed... What I'm curious about is if there's active construction happening? And is it noisy? Thank you!

Touch-less Car Wash

Hey 👋
I’m new to the area and I was wondering if any of the gas stations around here have a drive through touchless car wash? (A car wash without the spinning brushes and cloth)

I live only a block from the ocean and I park my car outside every day (because I don’t have a garage or covered parking), so a full-blown car wash is overkill since it gets covered in salt immediately after just one night. I was just hoping I could rinse the salt off at least once a week without scratching the paint all to hell.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Loud whine/noise in e. Sharp park?

Started at 3am ish and I can’t figure out where it’s coming from but it sure is annoying and definitely kept me up most of the night. Anyone know what’s up? I’m kinda shocked the house that’s the source hasn’t taken care of it by now.

We now have an complete RV encampment in our neighborhood next to the golf course. I do not believe these folks are engaged with PRC or from this area. Please do something about this Pacifica Police. The guy with the RV, new car and bikes at the end has been here almost two weeks.

Pacifica School District Board of Trustees ("School Board") Forum Video + Upcoming "Meet the Council Candidates" Forum

In case anyone wants to see 8 of the 10 candidates for the School Board speak at a structured (well almost structured, there was an ungracious disruption by one of the attendees with a definite agenda) forum, the video from the September 19th Pacifica Democrats "Meet the Candidates" forum is available for viewing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUyyLryNxoA. Thanks to PCTV for recording and posting the forum.

This coming Saturday, October 10th, the Pacifica Democrats will be hosting a structured forum for the candidates for the three seats on the Pacifica City Council. All five of the candidates have confirmed they will be in attendance. The meeting will start at 9:30 AM at the Sharp Park (Golf Course) Restaurant. Although hosted by the Pacifica Democrats you do NOT need to be a Democrat or member of the organization to attend. The event is free, although beverages and food are available with all proceeds going to the restaurant and not the organization. Because of this please do NOT bring in outside food or beverages.

This candidates forum will also be recorded, rebroadcast, and posted by PCTV.

Helicopters in hills behind Linda Mar yesterday?

I saw two helicopters circling around the top of the hills behind Linda Mar yesterday around 6 PM. Does anyone know what was happening? Was it a rescue or something?

Huge homeless encampment on San Pedro Terrace Rd trail

EDIT: I went on the trail earlier today (10/4/26) and it was cleaner than I've seen it in the past month or so! Still bits and bobs of junk, but not bad at all. So it does get regularly cleaned, but the time between cleanings might be too long. Also apparently they can't clean the side of the path where the encampment itself is. /EDIT

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this, has thoughts on this, and if this is something that is allowed and just exists now? I go on the San Pedro Terrace Rd trail, past Linda Mar Rehabilitation, almost every day, and I've been doing that for a while now. I've always thought of it as a lovely little hidden gem of a path to get to the beach. I feel like in the last month or so, a huge homeless space has popped up behind the trees on the west side of the trail. I have nothing against homeless people, I feel for them, but the trail does feel sketchier to walk on now, especially alone, simply due to the fact that there might be random, maybe more desperate strangers amongst the trees that I can't see. My main issue, though, is now there is a lot of random junk, trash, shopping carts, and other items strewn about that really make the path much less pleasant. Is this something that is going to be dealt with at some point by the City? Or is this just the way this path is going to be now?

I'm really not usually one to be inconsiderate or complain, but walking down this path has always been a nice part of my day, and I'm sad it's slightly ruined now.

Allergies

Hello! I grew up in the East Bay and have struggled with allergies for most of my life. I lived elsewhere for about 10 years and experienced a surprising reprieve, but my allergies have been very challenging since returning.
My allergy testing showed allergies to grass and weed pollen. My allergist has encouraged me to consider moving outside the “Contra Costa bubble,” where pollen levels can be higher than in coastal communities.
I’d love to hear whether anyone has noticed their allergies improve after moving to Pacifica especially if you previously lived in or frequently visited Contra Costa County.
I’ve visited a few times over the past few months, but with a six-month-old baby, it’s been difficult to arrange an extended stay to see how I feel. I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences! 🙏

Tracey for Pacifica School Board

Hello fellow Pacificans,

My name is Tracey, and I’m one of the candidates running for school board this fall. I am running for the short term, 2-year seat specifically. Here is a little about me and my campaign:

Why I’m running:

My wife and I live right between the Ocean Shore and Sunset Ridge campuses, and saw firsthand the anguish and anger in the community around the closure of Ocean Shore and merging into Sunset Ridge. I talked to my neighbors and friends in the community, and the consistent response I got was that folks felt unheard, unwanted at board meetings, and that there was a serious lack of transparency around budget decisions. In a general sense, I am tired of sitting around and waiting for someone to do something better. I am someone who could do something. So, I am running as a candidate who will listen to the community, and be their voice on the board.

Who supports my campaign:

I am proud to be endorsed by the San Mateo Central Labor Council and North Coast States Carpenters Union. I am a pro-labor candidate who believes our teachers are severely underpaid and deserving of much better. I have also received a Gun Sense Candidate distinction from Moms Demand Action.

You can find out more about my positions at my website, traceyforpacifica.com

I will be attending the next several School Board meetings in person, and speaking at the AAUW forum in a couple weeks. Please feel free to approach me at those events; I want to hear from you. You can also ask me anything here, and I will do my best to respond.

Thank you all for reading. I hope to earn your vote.

Carpool/vanpool from Pacifica to BART?

Hello! My partner and I are considering renting a place in Pacifica but was curious if there are any carpool/vanpool groups to help figure out the commute.

I'd need to commute to a BART/Caltrain station (ideally either Balboa Park or South SF) everyday around 9am and 5/6pm. I'd love not to have a car and instead pay to cover someone else's commute but wanted to understand whether this is a realistic option or not.

We are from out of town so still figuring out the public transit, but looking through commute.org it looks like the best option is a 50 min bus trip (think by car this is closer to 10min so would love to find a vanpool!) The place we are looking at is in more north Pacific (Westview area). Thank you!

Quick edit to add I was thinking of Balboa Park/SouthSF as my work then has a shuttle from these two locations! But will look into the Daly City BART as well!

Did anyone go? I heard next year will be there 40th anniversary! I've been going with my family the last 5 years. Good food, good music and good shopping. The weather was good compared to last year. I remember it rained on Sunday last year. Anyone make it out and did you all enjoy the event?

Fogfest today was really fun, more food options than ever :)

I hadn't been in a while and was hankering to go today and I was there at the start of 10:00am. I am impressed with the *variety of vendors and the food options were top notch and an excellent variety!

GO! and support your local community. I dropped a couple hundred myself but I love everything I purchased!

No on Sam signs- what is the deal?

Saw a big stop sign themed “No on Sam” sign on route 1 northbound on Friday and another big one at FogFest today.

What are they about? Looks like they might be protesting some guy named Sam running for city council? anyone know why or what the signs are about? Also who is behind them?

I don’t know much about any of the candidates yet.

Hey everyone!

I’m staying in Pacifica tonight and looking to play some pickup basketball. Preferably inside but I don’t mind outdoor too. What are the popular places to play between 5-7pm?

Nick's / Coquilles St Jacques

Before covid, I used to go to Nick's fairly often. My favorite dish was the Coquilles St Jacques, a rich scallop dish. I went back once after the pandemic and tried it again, but what came out of the kitchen this time was a bowl of watery slop. So I haven't been back in a couple of years, now. Lately, though, I've got a craving for that dish. Does anyone know if they still offer it? And if they've re-learned how to make it? Thanks!
