It's the same rate limit as it was with 4o. If you never hit the rate limit with 4o, you won't hit it with 5.

I never hit the rate with 4o and I did with 5

But the rates limits are the same so how can that be? Maybe you’re subconsciously using it more as you’re experimenting and playing with it?

I ran into the chat gpt5 message cap and was completely unable to send messages in any conversation. I did not get downgraded. I use chat gpt literally all the time and this has never once happened to me. It’s now occurred twice, once yesterday and once today.

If it’s right, it would pretty much resolve my complaints. But it’s a bit crazy if they are releasing 5 and slow rolling the backups.

Sorry but this isn’t true. I hit the limit for the very first time ever today using 5, and I’m simply locked out of sending any messages until it resets. I’ve never been unable to send messages at all before even if I was downgraded. There is no 5 mini showing up, at least right now.

It was easier to avoid hitting the rate limit with 4o because you'd switch between it, o4-mini, and o4-mini-high depending on the topic. We've lost that extra capacity now which is worrying.

True. Personally I never used o4 mini or mini-high. Just 4o and o3.

I asked it to refactor one single line python app I've been working on, something I've had 4o do without issue (as well as other companies AI's like Gemini) - and after borking things up on the first attempt, a retry said I was done for the hour. XD
