Discussion State of the Sub 2026: Bots, AI, Rules Updates, and Code of Conduct

Hi everyone, it's time for a sub check-in! Since this post got a bit long while writing it, I thought I'd try something different this time. You can get the gist of the updates with this TL;DR of the main post body, and then comment and discuss specific topics within the announcement via the top-level mod comments.

Tl;DR:

  1. Please read the rules.
  2. OHF moderates against bot behavior and provable AI content, but does not expect every OP to know the business practices of every brand they wear. Rule 10 has been updated to reflect this. Please check the related top level comment for our stance on use of AI in commenting and posting as well. View top level comment discussion
  3. Rules on seller interactions are being tightened. View top level comment discussion
  4. Respect post flairs (view the Flair Explainer here). Do not directly accuse people of trawling for NSFW attention. Please continue to report suspected rule breaking. View top level comment discussion
  5. OPs and mods alike are human beings and deserve to be treated as such. Our very first community rule is to Be Kind. View top level comment discussion (same link as number 4)

(Read Me!) Old Hag Fashion: Introduction and State of the Sub 2024 Update

Hello dear hags! It’s time for another State of the Sub address. As always, if you're new here, continue reading for an introduction to the sub. Seasoned Old Hags can search "State of the Sub" to skip to the updates. If you have feedback, ideas, or recommendations, please share them as a comment.

Introduction to Old Hag Fashion

What is r/OldHagFashion and the Old Hag fashion philosophy?

This is a space to celebrate feminine and androgynous fashion in ALL it's forms, to share diverse style inspiration, to de-stigmatize aging in fashion, and to engage in self-discovery through personal style, all with an Old Hag fashion philosophy.

What is this fashion philosophy? Have you ever met an old woman who dresses in elegant, imaginative, kooky, trendy, or ostentatious ways despite the world's expectations of her? [Image transcriptions can be found in the imgur captions]. This is what inspired the Old Hag fashion philosophy which is the joyous, confident, unapologetic embrace of fashion as a form of self-expression and creativity. This is a state of mind with which ANYONE regardless of age can engage with fashion. Old Hag Fashion is playful and rebellious. It breaks rules in silly, interesting, or political ways. It takes fashion and trends seriously as a legitimate creative outlet, but not so seriously that it can't poke fun at it. Above all, Old Hag Fashion is a place of kindness, acceptance, self-discovery and self-love through fashion and community.

What is the mission of this sub?

To bring together diverse people with a love of fashion.

To uplift fashionistas from across ages, body-types, races, abilities, ethnicities and style points of view.

To de-stigmatize aging in fashion, subvert stereotypes, and challenge notions that people (especially women) over a certain age can only partake in style in limited ways.

To encourage self-discovery, creativity, and growth through personal style.

Is this a parody subreddit? Are you making fun of people??

UNEQUIVOCALLY NO! Mean-spirited comments will result in a ban. The only thing we parody here are social pressures placed on people in regard to style, such as: that age limits self-expression in fashion; that certain ages and body types can not be stylish; and that caring about fashion is a frivolous, illegitimate hobby. Calling someone or yourself an "Old Hag" is a tongue-in-cheek way to acknowledge and dis-empower those pressures, which impact ALL feminine people, from teenagers to the elderly. We use this space to confront and dismantle those pressures; to share inspiration from across the age, ability, and body-type spectrums; and to remove the stigma and fear of aging. No matter your age, we're all Old Hags here.

Is there an age limit to participate?

In case this isn't clear, NO!

ANYONE can embody Old Hag Fashion, though some naturally embody it by being confident, creative, and stylish in the body they have: the 80-year-old woman who can out-walk you, and do it in high-heels; the disabled femme showing their wheelchair is a haute accessory; the fat and fabulous trans person who knows they look damn cute in a crop top. No matter who you are--your age, body type, gender identity, culture, disability status, or race--you are welcome here so long as you share these values of kindness, acceptance, and love of fashion.

How can I contribute?

We allow discussion prompts, advice requests, articles, good-natured satire, and outfit of the day posts. You can also uplift other fashionistas so long as they have a public facing fashion persona (like using fashion hashtags on Instagram for discoverability or being a self-described style blogger). In this case, share the users handle as a comment. See the post flair description here.

Additionally, there are weekly threads: A general discussion lounge (every Friday) and a style help thread (every other Sunday). We also have comment prompts which might help you think about fashion in new ways.

The most important things are to be kind and open-minded about fashion, and to follow the Reddiquette and the subreddit rules.

What is not allowed?

See here for in-depth descriptions and examples of prohibited content. Please report rule breaking.

Old Hag Fashion is a place of acceptance. This means any people, comments, or submissions that are bigoted, hateful, or mean-spirited are not welcome. This includes ageism, such as reinforcing age-related stereotypes or generalizing people based on age. Body envy and health speculation/concern trolling is also not allowed. Lecherous accounts which sexualize OHF post or users will be banned.

Off-topic posts, trend bashing, and low-effort criticisms are not allowed. Disagreement and dislike are more than welcome, as are rejections of trends within your personal style; they just must be presented in a kind, constructive, and substantive way. Reference to fashion "rules" as gospel is also discouraged.

Excessive down voting is strongly discouraged. If you believe someone is engaging in bad faith or poor taste, do not engage. Report them and move on.

Lastly, due to the prevalence of accounts using fashion subs to promote sex work, and due to the fact that we have under-18 hags, we ask that users use a clean account to interact with the sub. See the rules for discussion of NSFW account histories and how they will be addressed.

My picture has been shared here and I would like it removed. What can I do?

Message the moderators with a link to the OHF post and we will follow up to verify that it is your photo and remove the post.

State of the Sub

New Rule

We’ve introduced a new rule banning link-sharing from ultra-fast-fashion (UFF from here on out) sources, such as Shein, Temu, and AliExpress. This rule also covers any known dropshippers from said sources. We are NOT banning photos of outfits that include pieces from these sources, but if you are asked where you bought an UFF item, please refrain from sharing where it was purchased.

The fast-fashion world as a whole is harmful to both human rights and the environment, and these UFF sources are especially egregious. We can’t stop everything, but we can at least uphold that sharing goods from these sites is not Old Hag. Again, outfits that otherwise fit our rules will not be moderated simply for having an item from an UFF source. This rules is only about sharing where an item was purchased.

If you know of any fashion dropshippers, please list their sites below so that we can add them to our automoderator system, which will hopefully be stopping the bulk of these comments. The option to report a comment for sharing an UFF source has also been added to the report function.

Reminder: People of all races, sexualities, identities, and backgrounds are welcome in OHF.

There has been an influx of complaints about specific post types. We’d like to take this moment to remind our userbase of the values that underpin our community: inclusivity, respect, and acceptance.

We understand and celebrate that everyone has their own unique sense of style and preferences when it comes to fashion. However, it's essential to remember that our subreddit is a space for ALL members of our diverse community, regardless of their appearance or personal style choices. We also have very thorough rules on what kinds of accounts are allowed to interact with the sub, which cover things like NSFW and influencer accounts. These rules also indicate that we do not allow accounts that encourage a lascivious following, regardless of whether or not the account interacts with NSFW communities.

Nevertheless, we urge everyone to refrain from making negative comments or judgments based on someone's physical appearance or perceived identity, and as we’ve mentioned before, excessive downvoting is discouraged. Just as we wouldn't want to be judged ourselves, it's important to extend that same courtesy to others. Our sub is a place where everyone should feel comfortable expressing themselves authentically and sharing their outfit experimentation or simple joy of fashion, without fear of criticism. If there is something you are tired of seeing, please remember that you can curate your own Reddit experience and use the block feature, which prevents blocked accounts from showing up in your feed.

We encourage constructive feedback and discussion that fosters a supportive and positive environment for all members. Let's celebrate the diversity of our community and embrace the unique perspectives and contributions that each individual brings to the table!

Flair Explainer Refresher

The full Flair Explainer is a wiki entry, but descriptions of our post flairs have also been made into a pinned post. Please take a moment to review it! The post flairs explain how an OP prefers to interact with the community in their post, whether they’re looking for critique or just a friendly word.

Good Vibes Only Another Day...Another Interview!

Post image
650 Upvotes

For those who have been following my journey, getting interviews hasn’t really been the problem. I get plenty of interviews and make it through plenty of rounds. I’m currently in contention with five companies, which is pretty normal for me. I’ll start with five to seven, watch that dwindle down to two, get rejected by both, and start the process all over again. I do tend to apply less when I’m actively interviewing, and that’s something I need to get better about.

I finished a project yesterday, and they finally got back to me about a requirement I’d asked them to clarify. It turns out the scenario is supposed to take place on a different date than today, which changes the timeline and the assumptions behind my entire approach. So now I get to redo the project from scratch. That’s fun. Today is a second-round interview with a hiring manager at another company, and I believe that process is five rounds total.

Truthfully, I’m not especially excited about the company I interviewed with yesterday. The role is supporting consumers who buy classes from an influencer, and it just isn’t an industry I’m interested in. I’m trying to keep an open mind, but I honestly think there would be days I’d hate it. Yes, it’s a job, but I’m struggling with the idea of taking something already knowing I’d want to leave as soon as possible. There are also a few other opportunities in the early stages that haven’t turned into interviews yet. They pay considerably less than I really need, but at least they would move me toward the kind of work I want to do. So there’s that.

For today’s interview, I went with one of my staple dresses. I have two of these and really wish I had more. They’re cute, they have pockets, and the heavier fabric keeps me warm. They work with tights or bare legs, flats or heels—whatever I feel like wearing that day. At least choosing the outfit was easy.

A lot about this post is 2nd hand. One of my favorites on this sub did a post with a cartoon companion slide and I thought it was so incredible I had to make a lesser attempt at it using one of my Miss Frizzle looks. They know who they are. She's a bolt of lightning.

The dress & glasses are originally from Amazon. Thrifted the dress but saw it on there later. It makes me happy to not pay that place. The dress material isn't great. It gathers enough static to power a small town. The glasses are great though. Not gonna fib. Got them on eBay.

As far as the rest of the transcription; She's got a messy, shaggy blonde bob hair cut that was purchased & not grown. Her blue tights were bought at a Halloween store years ago & finally found an outfit. The black knee high boots have been in her closet for almost 10 years. The orange zebra print scarf was left at her job by an employee who quit. She has a big, boring black purse in some pics. A black coat in some pics. And sunglasses in some pics.

It was super cool and foggy tonight but I had to shower and wash my hair. All the time it took the fog blew away. Oh well. My hair doesn't look as great here but I love this sweater. I'm also new to the dark lip. Im not terribly fond of my lips, they're very thin. But I wanted to try it and i really like this color in general, hopefully it's flattering. Cheap stock filters. Another in my self love at 3am series.

Been a long time since I posted here. I am now an Old Country Hag, in a little town of less than 3,000 people. My closest neighbors are cows. Dressing the way I do, especially as an outspoken transgender American in New Zealand, is making me KNOWN about town! 😅

All good things, though! Featherston is very queer friendly. There's even a pride event here 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

First Time Poster Spirit Day Hag

Image Description: A middle-aged trans woman stands in a narrow hallway. She wears a black T-shirt which reads The March Violets and has the emblem from their album, Crocodile Promises, black pants, sunglasses, and a purple bandana around her hair.

Per GLAAD, 15 October is Spirit Day. The only purple clothing I had to wear was this bandana.

And the last time I saw The March Violets in concert, Rosie Garland dedicated their song "Radiant Boys" to all the Radiant Girls, the Radiant Theys, and the Radiant Nones.

Play loud, play purple for Spirit Day!

HELP! Thoughts on what could go well with this? Having a hard time thinking of/finding tops that would look good

I’m building an outfit for an event (singing at a Dolly Parton tribute concert), and I found this skirt which is PERFECT imo!! (Coat of many colors, eh?) Plus I’d probably wear it outside of the event as well, which is part of why I want to get it, definitely wanna get the most bang for my buck.

I’m having some trouble finding a good top to go with it though. I was thinking something along the lines of the tops I added, but I’m unsure. I really like the butterfly top, but my mom (pretty much all my friends are guys so I don’t have any women friends to help me out with this so to my mom I go 🫠) thinks that since I have a large chest it wouldn’t work well, especially with the spaghetti straps, and she thinks it’s too loud for the skirt (personally I think the loudness would make it work with the skirt, plus similar color schemes). I like the look of the second top, but I would prefer a similar top that had sleeves so I didn’t have to find a strapless bra (and for the life of me I cannot figure out what the style of that top is called). The last top I think looks pretty good (plus it’s cheap haha) but as with all of these I’m feeling unconfident in my styling intuition, which is why I’d like other people’s thoughts.

If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I would love to hear it!!!

HELP! How to make a back-zip jumpsuit easier to put on and take off?

• Upvotes

I recently thrifted a Lucy & Yak jumpsuit, similar to the Bellamy jumpsuit in the image. The only problem is that it zips up in the back with a V-shaped neckline. It's already a little difficult to reach the zipper to zip it up without help, and I'm worried about how I'll be able to unzip it to use the bathroom while I'm wearing it. Does anyone have any tips for making it easier to put on and take off a jumpsuit like this? So far I've considered adding a ribbon to the zipper pull, or just wearing it backwards so that the zipper is in the front.

Critiques Welcome Decided on a bow for today's interview, update on yesterday!

Post image
695 Upvotes

Today I decided to rock a cute bow and do my hair up nicely for an interview. I was a little skeptical of the company, and the opportunity isn’t something I’d typically be interested in, but I’m considering all my options. So I figured I’d make myself more comfortable by being a little more “me” than usual.

I think the interview went fine overall. It was first thing in the morning, which isn’t my best time for interviewing, but we’ll see how it progresses.

Yesterday’s interview was one I left feeling less confident about. I thought it went okay, but I wasn’t sure I’d done that well. Then the recruiter got back to me with positive feedback, and they’re moving me on to a project! That’s step three of five, so if they like my work, there are still two more rounds after this.

Wish me luck!

10/5/2026: Wore this to possibly the worst interview of my life. I'm usually quite strong at interviews so this was a humbling experience. I am fortunate to have a stable career so I treat interviews more like professional development exercise. Torrid denim button-down, cotton button-down, skirt, belt, and boots. Heliotrope bolo. Earrings from a local craft fair.
