(OC) Downtown Oceanside at Night Part 2
Took another walk downtown, this time with my youngest, so I couldn't walk as far as last time. These series of pictures are from a very specific area that was nice to visit but not super busy. She had a blast and so did I. More to come.
Edit: Shot on a Nikon D200 with a 50mm lens. Going to look into a 35 when I get paid so I can get some wider angle stuff.

Finding a place to sleep
I'm currently living in my car. I've had two accidents and stayed driving in December last year. One was me bumping a car in front of me because I was looking at a restaurant behind me to see if they had a drive through and my for came off the brake and I didn't notice. The other was a well later, and I scraped the side of my car against a pole in a parking garage. Don't actually know if that's considered a crash. Anyways, I also come back to my parents house to clean up after moving out and take showers at the neighborhood gym. Afew weeks ago, my parents found a Facebook post calling me out, specifying my car color and make. Another one was pasted right after, talking about a car that matches my color. The first said they'd been scared by me a few times, the other said they were cut off near the elementary school. Since then, my parents said that I had to give them a list of things I can do to be a safer driver. They decided that it was insufficient. I came up with a few more things but forgot to tell them. Now, they're saying it's too late and they're going to report me to the dmv for them to determine if I need to be reassessed.
Obviously, I plan to pass the test if it comes to that. But i need to come up with a contingency plan. If I lose my license, I won't be able to drive. The difficult part is, the nearest place to legally sleep in your car in public is the Aliso Creek Rest Area, at the part of the i5 that goes through Camp Pendleton. You can only park there for 8 hours every 24 hours. Meaning, I can park at 8pm, but I have to be gone by 4am. Then I can come back again at 8pm the next day. I can't leave my car there 24/7, and even if I could, I'd need transportation off the i5. Where can I park my car 24/7 and sleep in it? I have a bike and bus pass for transportation. I'm going to try and get in contact with shelters, state agencies, and charities, but does anybody here have advice? I'm thinking about asking the police for advice, since they're the ones that implement the rules for sleeping in your car, but are they hostile towards homeless people? Any advice for prepping for if they decide I need to be reassessed? Will they be more strict about the retesting? Is there anywhere I can put everything in my front seat without it being stolen to make space for the instructor? Any businesses around with private lots that don't mind people leaving their car 24/7? Wherever I put it, it needs to be somewhere I won't have to move. Oh, and I have a job in Oceanside, so I need to be within reasonable transportation distance of downtown Oceanside, so long as I can bike and/or ride the bus. Probably no more than an hour.

Jolt is the mascot for the O’Side Shock the new Oceanside FPHL ice hockey team playing at Frontwave Arena. He’s got some fun lights and looks even better when the lights are low.
Really a fun time and a great crowd.

Could a little-known new law bring sales tax rates in San Diego County to 10% — or higher?
Wtf is going on? 10 -11%
Is everyone made of money except me? The balls on assembly member Chris Ward to call current sales tax low.
I’m copy / pasting some of the article here. Support the SDUT for covering this. And please reject the local AND county sales tax measures on the ballot.
A low-profile state Assembly bill just signed into law is raising concerns that sales tax rates in San Diego County could soon rise from the 8% range toward the 10% and 11% rates seen in Los Angeles County and much of the Bay Area.
The new law — AB 2484 — marks the first time the state Legislature has given a government agency in San Diego County the kind of exemption that other parts of California have used to exceed the statewide 9.25% sales tax cap.
Local and statewide taxpayer advocacy groups say the law, which would exempt a proposed Metropolitan Transit System sales tax hike from the cap, could open the floodgates to more exemptions in San Diego County.
Since the cap was first exceeded in 2009 in the Los Angeles suburb of Southgate, it has become routine for the Legislature — lobbied by local officials — to approve steadily more exemptions in greater L.A. and the Bay Area.
“If the cap is breached in San Diego, the future could look like Los Angeles where no city is below 10%,” said Scott Kaufman, legislative director for the anti-tax Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
A series of exemptions has allowed the rate in the Los Angeles County desert cities of Palmdale and Lancaster to rise to 11.75%, the highest in the nation and 3 percentage points above San Diego County’s highest rate of 8.75%.
Every city in Alameda County, which includes Oakland and much of the East Bay, has a sales tax rate of at least 10.25%. Other counties where the 9.25% cap has been exceeded include San Mateo, Sonoma, Santa Clara and Contra Costa.
Two co-authors of AB 2484, San Diego Assemblymembers David Alvarez and Chris Ward, stressed in interviews last week that the law doesn’t put San Diego over the cap; it only allows voters the chance to make that choice.
“If you can’t make your case, you won’t get the votes,” Alvarez said.
The two men, both Democrats, said the Legislature hasn’t granted any other local exemptions, so sales tax rates in San Diego County won’t be rising anywhere near 11% anytime soon.
But Ward also said he believes low sales tax rates come with a compromise. “We can be glad our rates are lower, but we’re also getting weaker services,” he said.
He said the survival of quality local transit service will probably depend on the $300 million per year that a proposed half-cent sales tax hike would generate for MTS, which is facing annual budget deficits of about $125 million starting in 2030.

Looking for manual labor in a month or so.
I'm looking to take on a roommate starting mid November. I have some heavy furniture and work out equipment I need help moving. What's the best resource for finding a person or two to move things around my apartment and bring some downstairs to a garage.
Won't need help until mid November.

To the marines who I let borrow my tools - Update
I never received my tools back from them.
However, another redditor was kind enough to send me replacements. The replacements are far better than what I lent out.
Don't stop doing nice things for people. Put positive energy out and it will come back.

[US] SCAM Camp Pendleton
Pendletonhousing.com has scammers posing as landlords. They offer houses for rent/sale near Camp Pendleton then use the usual scammer tactics such as never being available for a call or pay now and they’ll mail the keys to you afterwards. Watch out for Jimmy Peraffan and Joseph Wilson. Watch out for Huntington National Bank too! They do nothing but help the scammers.

Mimi’s off Jefferson officially demolished to make way for a new Raising Cane’s in Oceanside 2027 (Fire Mountain/ Vista Way) [link in description]
https://thecoastnews.com/raising-canes-to-replace-mimis-cafe-in-oceanside/
Tbh, I hate this idea as much as I love it. The traffic here is already bad. After a whole ass Canes is going to be ridiculous. The trash is going to be insane.
However , I’m happy for the jobs that it’ll bring, and I’m sure a lot of the nearby community will be happy they can easily acquire hot late-night chicken.
But at what cost ?

Looking for resources or assistance with people living in their car near my home
A couple has been living in their car directly next to my house for almost a month. They are parked right next to my property, by the fence/trees near the sidewalk. They’ve been making noise, leaving trash and toilet paper around the area, and using the area as a bathroom, including leaving human waste near my property.
I’ve already called the police and reported the situation, but they are still there and the problem has continued for almost a month.
At this point, I’m trying to figure out who I can actually call to have them removed or have someone enforce whatever rules apply to where they’re parked. The city doesn’t seem to be doing anything, and I’m not sure what department or agency handles this when police reports aren’t resolving it.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a specific city department, code enforcement, parking enforcement, or other agency I should contact?
I’m not trying to harass anyone, but the sanitation issue and ongoing impact on my property have become a serious problem. I’d really appreciate specific numbers, departments, or advice on what actually works.
