Therapist: "Gangsta Adam isn't real and cannot hurt you." Gangsta Adam:
I think he pulled off this look really well. It's cheesy but authentic.

Hello all!
As you all may remember, I introduced a poll on the sub regarding AI. I made a stupid joke about worshipping, and I think it confused some people. Regardless of that, the results were, well. Pretty definitive.
So, going forward, Artificial Intelligence, in ANY form, in a comment OR a post, is BANNED.
The punishment scale for first, second, third, etc offenses will come at a later time, due to my second point of this post.
I would like to formally welcome /u/nealbeast to the mod team!!!
As you guys may have noticed recently, the amount of moderation in this sub has gone down. It's because the other moderators have moved on from Reddit. Which is fine. The group of mods we currently have was instilled in this mod group was instilled when I was in my junior year of high school!
I then remembered that I graduated high school over a decade ago, and I'll be 30 this year. This, combined with the fact that I am the only remaining moderator that seems to be active (and only just so. I'm quite busy with life as well.) We (me) have decided to introduce a new moderator. So, please, welcome /u/nealbeast !

I’ve been rewatching old episodes and just wanted to share my absolute favorite joke from the series.
It’s in the Indiana Jones episode. Adam is making a leather whip, and has some rendered animal fat in a plastic bottle. It’s yellow and looks a bit like urine. Adam pretends to drink it and says:
“I’m drinking my own urine! Just kidding, I’m not drinking my own urine… I’m drinking somebody else’s.”

Just wanted to see if anyone else appreciated this moment as much as me! What are some of your other favorite jokes or funny lines from the series?

Does anyone know why in the Newton's cradle episode, there seems to be one or possibly two undercarriages of cranes just swinging about in mid-air? Counterbalance, perhaps? In any case, seems like a pretty out-there impromptu solution that I would have loved to see covered in the episode

Hey MythBusters community,
Ever since I was a kid watching Adam and Jamie, I dreamed of sending this myth to the show’s mailbag. Back then, my English wasn’t good enough to write them an email, but this Uruguayan urban legend / official explanation has stayed in my head for years. I'd love to hear how you think the team would have tested it.
The Legend
Back in the 2000s, a massive blackout hit Uruguay, leaving the capital (Montevideo) and several major surrounding regions (Canelones, San José, Maldonado) completely in the dark.
The official statement from the state power company (UTE) was that a hunter shot a high-voltage transmission line, causing a catastrophic grid failure. Naturally, local skepticism was sky-high: Was it actually physically possible for a hunting rifle to take down a high-voltage grid, or was it just a convenient cover-up for grid poor maintenance and human error?
How MythBusters Would Test It
To evaluate this, the team would need to break the myth down into two main physical tests, plus a "worst-case scenario" grid condition:
High-voltage transmission cables are heavy-duty ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) lines under high mechanical tension.
The Test: Rig line cables under real-world tension on a firing range and test standard local hunting calibers: .22 LR, .223 Rem, .243 Win, .308 Win, and a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with heavy Brenneke slugs (to give the myth its absolute best shot).
The Question: Does a bullet actually sever the steel core and snap the line, or does the cable just deform and absorb the hit?
What if the hunter didn't hit the wire, but shot a ceramic/porcelain insulator stack instead?
The Physics: Shattering the ceramic destroys the dielectric insulation, potentially causing an immediate high-voltage electrical arc (flashover) from the live wire to the grounded steel tower.
The Test: Mount porcelain insulators under simulated high voltage (150kV+). Shoot them to see if the resulting short-circuit arc is powerful enough to instantly melt/sever the line or trip automatic breakers.
For a single shot to drop four major regions, the myth requires a perfect storm: a failure in automatic reclosers/breakers or a system already running without redundancy (like secondary backup lines being down for maintenance).
Predicted Verdict:
Severing Cable with a Shot: BUSTED (Even a .308 or Brenneke slug would likely only fray strands, not snap a steel-reinforced cable).
Insulator Shattering & Cascade: PLAUSIBLE (A destroyed insulator + a short-circuit arc + a compromised redundant grid could theoretically trigger a chain-reaction blackout).
What do you think? Would a hunter's bullet actually be able to knock out power for millions, or was UTE just scapegoating a lucky shooter?

My 2 suggestions are:
• Using vacuum cleaners to herd cats. (It may not be completely effective, but I think you could get a result.)
• Using an airport security X-ray machine to search for needles in a hay stack. Just get a few dozen plastic totes, stuff the hay stack into them, and scan them for bone/metal needles! How hard could that be?

I’ve been watching the later season episodes as they’ve been uploaded to youtube (I’m so glad the full episodes are back) and I noticed that once the B Team got fired the producers seemingly started forcing Jamie to be much more animated than he was before
He’s still definitely a counterbalance to Adam and much calmer, but it feels like they made him perform much more “excitedly” if that makes sense
My guess is that they thought that would help fix the gap left by the more “goofing off” thing that the B Team had going on a lot of the time?

Has anyone on the cast or crew ever mentioned why they went from adressing someone off camera to looking at the camera when explaining the details of the myths?

I like the show OK, and found myself screaming at the TV set more than a couple times, but I guess that’s kind of the appeal.
But overall I feel like the show and especially Adam just made Jamie into a punching bag, and they made fun of him for being weird and awkward, but never anything about his character.
Which Adam kinda comes off like he doesn’t have a lot of.

This is my second time meeting him, actually. He is super awesome, his personality is exactly what you see on the show. Met a lot of other cool fellow Mythbusters fans while waiting in line. If you saw his social media post with the droids, we were there when it happened (this is from my perspective in line), and it was the most spectacularly nerdy thing ever. 😄

It looks like the film crew for Mythbusters named their cameras after various actors. We can see Johnny Cash and Marla Maples here. We can't see the label for the third one here. Do we know of any more?

Has anybody else noticed how Jamie and Adam clearly are not cooks bor have any food handling experience? Every time they handle food or prepare food on the show, it always seems to have the most disgusting looking equipment and just no sense of safe food handling procedures.
Preparing steak on a disgusting looking industrial, George Foreman Grill, cutting poppyseed cake with a Swiss Army knife on a bear table with cups of pee sitting next to it, melting gummy bears over open flames in a glass cake pan…
