A Reminder About Modesty Comments, "Keep Looking" Responses, and Saying No to Someone's Yes-to-the-Dress Moment

Just a friendly reminder about a few rules we find ourselves enforcing pretty regularly.

Please avoid comments comparing dresses to lingerie or making judgments about modesty, coverage, or whether it's "appropriate." Not every dress will be your personal style, and that's okay. If the OP isn't specifically asking about lining, alterations, or coverage, those comments aren't needed.

If someone has narrowed it down to a few dresses and is asking which one works best, do not make comment like “keep looking,” “neither,” or similar.

And finally, if someone is showing off the dress they've already chosen, they're sharing an exciting moment with the community. Those posts are for celebrating, not critiquing. Please don't second guess their choice or tell them they'll regret it. A little kindness goes a long way.

Thank you

Hi everyone, long time lurker and so so happy to finally make my own post! First day ever trying on a wedding dress, went to 3 different stores and found the one at the last store!! I was so afraid of being unsure, I thought I’d be the person going to 20 different shops, but a few months have already passed since trying on and making the decision to purchase and I am still so sure and at peace with my decision! Thought I’d make this fun and ask you guys, which dress do you think I picked? 1, 2 or 3? Can’t go wrong with any of these they were my favorites of the day :)

I'm a little late but this was my dress for our small initial ceremony!

I'm sorry I don't have better pictures of the dress, I didn't think about it in the moment (the best and most exciting moment of my whole life)!

This dress was found by my grandma on a spontaneous thrift-shopping trip a week prior to our dress shopping date. She said it jumped out at her for me. The color and style was similar to a few inspo dresses I had sent her. She brought it to our dress shopping date and it fit me almost like a glove! I know there are a few areas due to my awkward body that could've used a few alterations but it's too late for that now lol. I still felt beautiful! the best part? NINE DOLLARS !!!!!

I would also like to add that the drape around my shoulders was a scrap of fabric that my grandma already had before ever even finding the dress, and it was an almost perfect shade match! We tacked it on at damn near the last second and you can kind of tell in the second picture haha.

My stepmom put together my bouquet and our wedding cake as a surprise, and both my grandparents and parents surprised us with a beautiful arch (you can see it in the last picture, my favorite picture of all 🩵). My grandpa primarily officiated the ceremony, with my grandmother doing an absolutely beautiful reading. I dyed my hair blue and cut it all off the night before, which is very on-brand for me. my husband wore a tux for the first time ever and got a professional haircut for the first time ever, just for me (us)! his vows were so beautiful, I felt so unprepared with mine and I couldn't stop crying through either set of vows. I was such a happy mess.

I know this sub is for dresses but i really can't help but gush!! Our wedding was March 21st, 2026 and we were meant to basically elope but it snowballed after the news spread. Now we're planning on doing a much larger ceremony after I graduate for all of our family that wanted to be there! I can't wait to do it again, the stress was so worth it 🩵🩵🩵

Getting married in Canmore, AB in 2028. Im OBSESSED with #1, it's pretty heavy but feel like an actual princess it. I also felt like a princess in #2, its lighter and has a haulter top, #3 was so light and easy to move around in, a little more fun and wild. Help me choose!

I can’t wait to walk down the aisle!!! The only thing we’re changing is the color of the cups in the bust to match my skin tone better. As soon as I tried it on I didn’t want to take it off! 🤍✨

EDIT: Thank you SO much for all the love and encouragement ❤️ you guys were amazing, sorry if if couldn’t respond to anyone. I actually was also a inspired by one of my favorite character; Nesta Archeron from the ACOTAR book series. She is a badass! So I’m very glad you told me I nailed this vibe!!

What do you girls think? I honestly fell in love with it the second I put it on, however I didn’t see many dresses like mine in the internet in general and it’s giving me cold feet that I picked wrong. I’m looking for some hype 🥹 I have the first fitting in a couple of months so I wanted to ask you if I should ask for some alterations and if gloves or no gloves? Thank you ❤️

Alteration Question!

Hello! Looking for advice on possible alterations to a dress I am considering buying. It’s a cheaper dress that I found on Amazon, but I want to stay in the cheaper range because of a high likelihood the dress I choose will get dirty during the outdoor ceremony. Would it be possible to add long sleeves to this dress? My sister suggested a tighter sleeve, but I’m open to suggestions for what may work.

Torn between two floral dresses

Been searching for a while for a floral dress and found a shop with an amazing selection but now torn between two.

The wedding will be in early July in Latvia so will likely be warm but not baking hot. I really like the big florals of the white dress but surprised by how much I liked the colour and fit of the dark pink dress and really liked how big it and its train is. (Can post more pictures if required!)

Was looking for people's thoughts/opinions, or perhaps something I could wear to the follow up fitting in terms of hair or accessories to help enhance either dress?

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your comments!

I am the bride, I tend to wear colourful, flouncy clothes a lot so both dresses are my vibe. I have tried on several dresses now and I felt most comfortable in the dresses in this shop.

I guess one of my main thoughts is "what will look like my wedding dress and what might be a dress that I could just be wearing to a Christmas party?" So a lot of responses have helped me in this regard

I've always been uncomfortable with how pink my skin can be (and hence part of my worry with dress 2) so there's been some helpful comments with regards to this and accessory ideas.

The brand is Veni Infantino for those interested

Both dresses cost the same

The wedding venue is a mix between woodland, and a big house, so mix of both really in terms of style. I believe early July Latvia will be quite warm, we will be the weekend after midsummer.

I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for 15 years today and wanted to share my dress

I married my amazing husband on October 15, 2011. I don’t remember where I got it or who made it (sorry!), but as soon as I saw it I knew it was the one. I actually had a different dress that I was in love with and had my heart set on. When we got to the shop (which I specifically went to because they had that dress), I tried it on and almost cried because I HATED how it looked. After I took it off, we (me, my mom, my sister - MOH, and my other bridesmaid) started looking for other dresses. My sister found this one and as soon as I saw it l loved it and it felt right when I tried it on.

Bonus pictures:

6-8: trying in the dress in the shop (including a better picture of the back). This is the one my sister picked.

9-11: the dress I originally intended to buy. It’s funny, really. I haven’t looked at these pictures in probably 12 years, and I used to hate how I looked. I thought my ass looked huge (as demonstrated in picture 11) and I looked boxy. Looking at it now, I love it and wish I would have gone with it, but I do still love the dress I ended up wearing.

12-14: The dress my mom picked. It looked ok, it just 100% isn’t my style.

15-16: The dress either the shop employee or my other bridesmaid, my now SIL (sorry, it’s been 15 years, so I can’t remember) picked out. I felt like I was walking around with plaster casting on my torso and a giant flower vagina under my ass. Not comfortable and not my style, but fun to try on.

Dress disaster.

I purchased the dress of my dreams second hand before I even got engaged.

The dress was an amazing deal and I knew it had been altered pretty extensively as it had been taken in several sizes, but at the time fit me well, it would just need to be shortened.

Unfortunately due to health issues I’ve dropped quite a bit of weight and the dress no longer fits.

Due to the previous alterations it would be expensive and time consuming to alter and I’m debating buying a new dress altogether. One seamstress quoted me more than the price of buying the same dress new to alter the existing dress.

At the moment there is a sample sale on the designers website and I could buy a sample of the dress at a discounted price and pray it comes in good condition.

I’m a very short person so I know whatever route I go I will need alterations to shorten the dress.

So my options are:

1) buy a new dress that will get in about two months before my wedding and hope I can get it shortened in time.

2) buy the discounted sample, hope it comes in good condition and get it shortened.

3) take apart the dress I already have and attempt to make something new of it.

I’m leaning towards buying a new dress, but that leaves me with my current dress that I’m not sure what to do with.

First try on of my dress (with veil)!

I posted a while back https://www.reddit.com/r/myweddingdress/s/BRde93WeHZ

Not had the sleeves properly added on yet and still may need some alterations, but I finally tried on the dress with my veil and I actually got misty-eyed (didn’t expect it!)

Will have a half up hairstyle so the veil will sit lower and should end with the train of my dress.

Apologies for poor lighting with the veil, but there wasn’t any natural light from the back…

Anyway, the veil was a hit with the ladies at the dress shop and I love it too!

How can I enhance my wedding dress?

Just got this dress for $100 when originally it is $650. I was wondering what I could add to it to enhance it. I accidentally uploaded the wrong photo yesterday as I thought it was that dress until I looked at the dress again.

I have tried on these 4 dresses and do really like them all, but don't know how to decide! Or maybe none of them are quite right. We are doing a town hall and pub wedding in the UK, so I was looking for something relatively simple. Would welcome any thoughts!!! I need to decide in the next 7 days as one of the dresses is only on hold until then 👀

Found dream wedding dress - need someone to recreate

Post image
88 Upvotes

I have scoured the internet and cannot find anything that makes my heart feel like this dress does. I found it over a year ago. Unfortunately the company who made it cannot take customs right now and I don’t know if they will open customs in time for me.

Anyone a seamstress in California who could recreate?? Any ideas from anyone on how to make this happen?

I really didn’t wanna spend more than $500-$800 on my dress (the expense just isn’t worth it to me and I’m going for fairy wedding vibes). And the original dress was $300 I believe.

Just looking for ideas to make this happen! Thank you in advance 💕💕💕
